Mitia (3): Discovery! Mithia’s Benefactor
Thank you for reading at bayabuscotranslation.com)
We set out with Beg, the military dog, to search for Mitia’s benefactor, a girl around the same age as Mitia, who works as a staff member at the research building. We were guided by Hana, who took us to places where girls of Mithia’s age gathered. It wasn’t until we reached the area near the middle school that Beg finally reacted and took off running.
As people were not accustomed to seeing a military dog running, they exclaimed, “Whoa!” and almost stumbled, but Bianca quickly supported them, saying, “Are you okay?” as she followed along.
Mitia seemed to struggle with physical activity, so Hana was holding her hand and helping her along. I was doing my best to ensure that I didn’t let go of Beg’s leash.
Beg ran energetically, with his tongue hanging out. Then, I saw someone coming out of a shop, holding a shopping bag!
“Watch out!” (Lux)
I shouted instinctively but Beg charged straight toward the person! However, the person only moved slightly to the side, easily dodging Beg’s charge. When I saw the face behind the paper bag, I immediately realized who it was.
It was Rita-san.
“…Oh? Lux… and could it be Beg? Why are you all together?” (Rita)
Rita-san looked at us with a puzzled expression. Beg, on the other hand, happily jumped at her feet.
Beg… did he catch Rita-san’s scent and chase after her?
While they were both confused, Bianca, who had followed behind, and a short time later Mitia, led by Hana’s hand, came in panting.
“Hm? Bianca and Hana… and Mitia? Huh? What exactly are you all doing?” (Rita)
It was rare to see Rita-san, who was usually calm and collected, looking so confused. I could understand why. What are we doing? As Beg was still clinging to Rita-san, she casually brushed him off, and we took a moment to explain.
“I see. So that’s why you all are such an unusual group.” (Rita)
“By the way, Rita-san, Beg seems to be really attached to you.” (Lux)
Yes, Beg was wagging his tail and showing an unusual amount of affection toward Rita-san.
“Oh, I brought Beg from the frontlines to the academy. When I had some business on the frontlines, I was asked to bring him along. I looked after him on the way from the front to the academy. That’s probably why he’s so attached to me.” (Rita)
“I see. That makes sense.” (Lux)
While Rita-san and I were talking, Mithia tilted her small face curiously.
“Um… it seems like you two, Zalard-san and Lux-san, are quite close…” (Mitia)
Rita-san answered her.
“Oh, this Lux is someone I scouted from the southern village and brought to the academy.” (Rita)
“I see! Just like with Beg!” (Mitia)
Mitia innocently made that connection, without any ill intent… I think. But I couldn’t quite shake the feeling that something wasn’t quite right. Seeing Mitia’s response, Rita-san smiled wryly. Then, Bianca and Hana greeted Rita-san.
“Well then, how about we take a break since we’re here? How about some tea? Noris should be arriving soon.” (Rita)
She pointed toward an open-air café further down the street. We, who were all a bit thirsty after running, eagerly agreed.
—
When we sat down at the café, Beg lay quietly at Rita-san’s feet. I asked the waiter to bring a bowl of water and placed it in front of Beg’s nose. Since we were outdoors, I thought it might be cold, but there was no wind, so it wasn’t as chilly as I expected. Rita-san, who appeared to be dressed lightly, seemed especially unaffected as she sipped her tea. I wondered if she was simply strong against the cold.
“By the way, where’s Noris?” (Lux)
“She’s out buying supplies. She was supposed to meet here, so this worked out well.” (Rita)
“I see.” (Lux)
After some casual conversation with Rita-san, we heard a familiar voice.
“Huh? Onii-chan? And everyone else? What’s going on?” (Noris)
It was Noris, holding a shopping bag.
“Hey, Noris.” (Lux)
“Hello there, degozaru.” (Hana)
“It’s been a while, Noris-chan.” (Bianca)
As everyone greeted Noris, Mitia, who had been shivering slightly, was trembling even more.
Hmm, is it still too cold for her? She could go inside if she wants.
Before I could suggest that, Mitia suddenly screamed, loud enough for Beg to jump up in surprise.
“Ooouuch…!!” (Mitia)
—
The person Mitia was looking for was my sister, Noris.
“Huh, Noris came to the academy festival? If so, you should have said hello.” (Lux)
“I looked for you, but couldn’t find you. I saw Lev-san and Frank-san at the library, but they looked busy.” (Noris)
“When was that?” (Lux)
“On the last day of the academy festival.” (Noris)
Oh, on that day, we had been cleaning the clubroom the entire time. The old school building had been off-limits, so it was no surprise that she couldn’t find us.
“I was just wandering around when I met Mitia-chan.” (Noris)
Finally, after reuniting, the two introduced themselves for the first time. They seemed to have some kind of connection, and quickly became close friends. Now, they were sitting next to each other.
“Why didn’t you say your name before leaving, Noris-chan?” (Bianca)
Noris looked at Rita-san.
“I was in a rush because I had to find a brooch before Rita-san got back in the evening. I didn’t have time to introduce myself.” (Noris)
“I’m sorry, it was the academy festival after all.” (Mitia)
Mitia said apologetically.
“No, it’s fine! Don’t worry about it!” Noris replied with a smile.
While we watched the heartwarming exchange between the younger ones, the day passed leisurely.

*Today’s Diary*
I had a feeling the person I was looking for might have looked similar, but I was still surprised to learn that the person was actually Noris.
However, Mitia and Noris seemed to get along really well.
According to Bianca, Mitia, who rarely leaves the research building, had actually made plans to hang out with Noris, which surprised her.
We, who came from the southern village, don’t have many acquaintances in this city.
Especially since Noris doesn’t go to school, her friends are mostly limited to Maria.
So, it’s really great that Mithia is getting along with her.
Since it was a good opportunity, I also spoke with Rita-san about Noris attending middle school.
It seems everything is proceeding smoothly for her to enroll starting next spring.
I somehow felt a sense of relief, as if a weight had been lifted from my shoulders.
