The Demon King Seems to Conquer the World – The Kilghina Kingdom

The Kilghina Kingdom

It was a country that the youngest princess, the twelfth daughter of the empress, Kilghina, founded.

The empress of the Shantilla Great Empire had various customs created to protect the royal lineage.

In that system, the empress was never married. Instead of having a husband, she always had multiple lovers, and the empress left a succession by having love with them.

The reason why there was a peculiar system which might be taken as obscene was that she was afraid that her husband would become regent and take over the kingship. When the empress died for some reason, this system could prevent men from taking control, even if the daughter of the succession was young.

Thanks to such various customs, the royal family was able to maintain the royal lineage for many years without the interference of the knights.

However, in reality, the practice wasn’t completely followed, and many successive empresses disliked having relationships with multiple lovers, and the majority of them only had a substantial husband. Even in that case, there were officially multiple lovers, and the husband’s political power was suppressed.

However, even in such an environment, the child wanted to know who their father was. It seemed that the princesses who reached adulthood were still worried whose child they were.

So to solve that, there was a method of the empress secretly telling them who their father was.  Since there was no official statement or document, even if the princess later became the queen, their father wouldn’t have the right to be a close relative.

Kilghina, the youngest child, became a sister to Shaalta for that reason. The same man’s name was told as her father by her mother Mithra.

This daughter believed it innocently, and as an innocent daughter, she was in a particularly close relationship with the twelve sisters in the family.

At the meeting where the royal family remains, these girls cooperated with each other to speak out. They got the whole White Wolf Peninsula, which was a remote area at that time, and split it between two people.

In 2000 years, the first border invasion since the founding of the country was during the Year 1952 Crusade. In this war, the Timna Kingdom, which was located at the south of these two neighboring countries, was attacked mainly. At this time, the Verdun Great Fortress at the base of the southern peninsula was used for the first time, and it prevented the enemy’s advance.

In the Thirteenth Crusade, the Dafide Kingdom, north of the two neighboring countries, was attacked. At this time, the Verdun Great Fortress was bypassed, but since it wasn’t an advance into the peninsula, the fortress didn’t work effectively as there was enough hinterland. The Verdun Great Fortress demonstrated its functionality in these two wars.

The construction of the Verdun Great Fortress began in 1933, and before that it was the Verdun Great Rocks or the Verdun Great Quarry. The history went back to BC. The large rocks of Verdun were famous as a cutting place for building materials and paving stones. In 1933, a considerable part of the Verdun Great Rocks had been cut, but it was still large, and the surrounding area had become a towering rock wall due to cutting for many years.

Due to the threat of the Crusades, the Kilghina Kingdom decided to fortify the Verdun Great Rocks and began construction of fortification facilities. However, it was just a matter of instructing where to cut the stones, shaping them, stacking the cut stones, and building a simple wall and barracks at the top.

In other words, it was a simple castle construction that didn’t require a budget, but the fortress made by this method was robust. Unlike a mere castle wall, the mountain itself was a wall. Therefore, it didn’t break if it got hit, but unlike a mountain castle, there was neither a slope at the foot of the mountain nor a topsoil. The foot of the mountain was sharpened by many years of stone-cutting work, which wasn’t something that people could climb with their hands, and because of its height, it couldn’t be reached the height of halfway-done siege tower.

In 2008, the Great Fortress was used for the third time. At that time, The Flusha Kingdom had a good harvest for three years in a row, causing the price of grain decreasing.  The inconveniences caused by the Verdun Great Fortress was known by those participating lords of the Crusades, so a special measure was taken that year.

The countermeasure was a simple one, in short, it was a siege. The Crusade of that year had twice as many troops than usual from the Flusha Kingdom. They defeated the army of the Kilghina Kingdom in a field battle, and they had to escape to the fortress. So, they surrounded it. At that time, the common sense of the Shanti was the Crusade would be done in the summer and the enemy would withdraw in the winter since the winter in the northern part of the continent was severe for the Kuran. That was the prejudice. Because of that, the Verdun Great Fortress was designed for the purpose of a siege from summer to winter, and there were no reserved provisions.
