Mitia (1): Bianca’s Request

One day on a holiday, it was unusual for Hana and I to be the only ones in the clubroom.
Like me, Hana was the type who could stay silent for long periods without any problem, though she talks when she does speak. Today, both of us were studying for our exams. In other words, the clubroom was very quiet.
I came here because I can concentrate better in the clubroom than in my own room.
“I’ll never study at home. I thought if I came here, someone would be watching over me, degozaru.” (Hana)
During the first semester exams, Hana nearly lost her summer vacation. In the second semester, it wouldn’t be as bad as the first, but if her grades are poor, she would have to attend supplementary classes.
Hana wanted to study beforehand this time so that she could get through the class smoothly, and she was a little worried after seeing Heinz, who she had thought was a classmate who couldn’t study, attend class seriously without dozing off at all after finding Duke Lengrad’s notes.
The other members must be spending at least some time studying for the exams today as well.
So, we were both quietly reading our textbooks and writing in our notebooks. The pens we were using were high-end items sent by Heinz’s father.
Listening to the words of the noble pair, Heinz and Maria, who said, “You have to use these kinds of things”, I tried to use them as much as possible. The writing experience was exceptional since they were luxury items. However, since it would stand out too much in class and I’d be in trouble if anyone asked about the pen, I refrained from using it during lessons.
Then, suddenly, a loud noise broke the peaceful winter afternoon in the clubroom. The person who rushed in through the door immediately shouted.
“Oh! There you are! Hana, could you help me with something?!” (Bianca)
She said in a loud voice. It was our classmate, the troublemaker Bianca.
“What’s up, Bianca?” (Lux)
I thought to myself, and as I looked back down at my textbook,
“What’s ‘what’s up’ supposed to mean?! Today, I don’t need you, Lux!” (Bianca)
Huh? Did I say that out loud?
“Anyway, could you be a little quieter? You’re echoing all the way down the hallway.” (Lux)
“Oh, sorry, sorry.” (Bianca)
I think it’s a good trait of Bianca to apologize so honestly in situations like this.
“So, what’s going on, degozaru?” (Hana)
“Oh! Right, right! I almost forgot because of Lux! Hana, I need you to help me with something.” (Bianca)
“What is it, degozaru?” (Hana)
“I need your help finding someone.” (Bianca)
At this, a girl I didn’t recognize peered out from behind Bianca.
—
We left the clubroom and walked down the main street of the academy.
“Hey, why is Lux coming along?” (Bianca)
“If you’re looking for someone, it’s better to have more people, right? Plus, I owe you for borrowing a gun during the competition, so I’ll help.” (Lux)
“Well… whatever. Do as you like.” (Bianca)
Bianca said, though she seemed a little pleased.
The girl Bianca had brought with her introduced herself as Mitia.
To my surprise, she was a Combat Medic (Medica), a very rare type of soldier, and she wasn’t a student of the academy but a staff member from the research institute.
I see. She must not be someone I’d see around here normally. Currently, there are only two Combat Medic (Medica) in the school, and they conduct various experiments in the research building.
…Though she looks younger than me?
“That’s right. She’s younger.” (Bianca)
Bianca said simply. Mitia graduated from a school specializing in Combat Medic (Medica) in the royal capital.
The Medic Academy didn’t automatically graduate students after three years. They must earn their qualification through their skills. Mitia enrolled at the age of ten and graduated in just two years as an exceptional talent. However, given her age, she was sent to the Oran Knight Military Academy’s research institution, at least for now, to train further.
“How do you know Mitia-chan, -san? degozaru?” (Hana)
“Ah… I… I’m fine if you just call me by my name… Bianca’s mom is the vice-principal at the Medic Academy.” (Mitia)
Mitia spoke shyly, just like Maria when I first met her.
“Well then, Mitia-chan it is. Bianca’s mom is a Combat Medic (Medica), gozaru?” (Hana)
“Yes. Apparently, they met when Papa was badly injured on the battlefield, and she treated him. But anyway, Combat Medic (Medica) tend to be older than the average student here. You need to know a fair amount to enter, so Mitia was exceptional for being so young. Mama looked out for her a lot and even brought her home often. To me, she’s like a little sister.” (Bianca)
At Bianca’s words, Mitia nodded in agreement.
“So, Mitia, who are you looking for?” (Lux)
“I’m looking for the girl who helped me during the school festival…” (Mitia)
Due to his introverted personality, Mitia rarely left the research building on a normal basis, but during the school festival she felt it would be fun, so she went out to check out the stalls. However, while she was in the crowd, she accidentally dropped a precious brooch she always wore.
A girl about his age called out to Mitya, who was feeling flustered and in a state of distress. After hearing the story, the girl helped Mitia search for the brooch. They retraced her steps, asked the nearby stalls if they had found a lost item, and after a lot of effort, they managed to find the brooch, but before Mitia could properly thank her, the girl had left.
Mitia had been thinking about it ever since, wanting to at least express her gratitude. She consulted with Bianca, who then asked Hana for help in finding the girl, since Hana knew the town of Rodon well.
By the way, now that I think about it, Bianca and Hana seem to get along well. I asked them about it.
“Yeah. We’ve gotten along pretty well since we first entered, degozaru.” (Hana)
Hmm, considering Bianca is straightforward and Hana is a bit odd, maybe they click because they’re both a bit different?
“Lux, did you just think something rude?” (Bianca)
Bianca kicked me with good intuition, much like Lulu-san.
Seeing this, Mitia laughed.
“You all seem to get along so well.” (Mitia)
“It’s not like that! He’s my rival!” (Bianca)
Bianca made a fuss.
Meanwhile, Hana looked a bit serious.
“So, what does this girl look like? Do you know her name?” (Hana)
“Well… I was so flustered that I forgot to ask her name… She was a cute, fluffy girl, though…” (Mitia)
“Hmm, that’s not enough to go on.” (Hana)
Indeed, even for Hana, it was practically impossible to identify someone based on such vague details.
“Oh, don’t worry about it. What I need from you, Hana, is a list of places where girls around that age might gather. We’ll have her look around there.” (Bianca)
As she said this, she pointed towards a uniformed staff member from the research building, and at his feet was a dog with a slender, toned body, short black fur, and a dignified face.
“Is that… a military dog?” (Lux)
“Yes. Apparently, they have several at the research building. The girl dropped her handkerchief, and we’ll use its scent to track her down.” (Bianca)
“…Wait, isn’t this a bit too dramatic?”
I couldn’t help but remark.
“Mitia’s like a daughter to everyone at the research building. I couldn’t just leave her worrying.” (Bianca)
“Her name’s Beg. She may look scary, but she’s actually very calm and a good dog!” (Mitia)
Mitia said happily as she introduced the military dog.
Yeah, with an innocent face like that, I guess a military dog might just be borrowed out like that.
