Lux, Revealed Once Again (3): Unsatisfied Lamie-senpai
(Thank you for reading at bayabuscotranslation.com)
My second match against Bianca was also a decisive victory for me. Lulu-san called us, and everyone gathered once.
Bianca was looking down with her forehead smeared with paint. While I was searching for words to say, Bianca glared at me and pointed her finger.
“I lost today, but I’m definitely not going to lose next time! Be prepared! We’re going to have another match!!” (Bianca)
She said with slightly tearful eyes. I wondered if Bianca was this kind of person. Well, I secretly breathed a sigh of relief that she was in good spirits.
“Well, with that spirit, it should be fine. I was worried you might start crying and say ‘I’m done’ or something!” (Luly)
Lulu-san laughed to herself.
Hmm. I think Lulu-san should learn a bit more delicacy.
For now, I ignored Lulu-san and gave Bianca a safe response.
“Yeah, let’s do it again.” (Lux)
I never expected that the next day she would say, “When is the next match!” but I was really glad it was just before summer vacation.
“Well then, today’s main event.” (Luly)
Lulu-san, who must have thrown the word delicacy onto the battlefield, briskly took charge. When I glanced toward Lamie-senpai, she was looking up at the sky with a grim expression, apparently thinking about something. Everyone noticed that Lamie-senpai’s behavior was unusual and focused their attention, but she remained unmoved.
“Lamie?” (Saras)
Saras-senpai called out to her, and she suddenly turned to face me.
“It’s not fair.” (Lamie)
I thought she was referring to the previous match, especially the first long-range shooting. It seemed others thought so too, as Lulu-san said…
“Hey, hey, there is indeed a difference in range, but as you saw in the second match, it’s clearly based that they’re both capable.” (Lulu)
Upon hearing that, Lamie-senpai tilted her head with a puzzled look and asked Lulu-san.
“What are you talking about?” (Lamie)
“What are you talking about… Are you okay?”
Their conversation was out of sync. Rita-san provided a helping hand.
“Lamie, what do you mean by ‘it’s not fair’?” (Rita)
“That is, of course, about me.” (Lamie)
“…Could you explain a bit more clearly?” (Rita)
“I have watched Lux’s matches closely twice, in the competition and against Bianca. In other words, I have seen his hand one-sidedly. On the other hand, I have kept my cards hidden. This is not fair.” (Lamie)
…So that’s what she meant.
“Even if you say that… How about you have a match with either Bianca or Saras first?” (Lulu)
Lulu-san asked.
Bianca shook her head vigorously.
“With Saras… it feels different somehow.” (Lamie)
Lamie-senpai said.
“I don’t mind, but we know each other’s hands too well, so it would probably take a lot of time… and it wouldn’t be fair to hold back either.” (Saras)
Saras-senpai answered Lulu-san with a somewhat troubled look.
“That’s why non-combat roles are a hassle! Hey, just stand at an appropriate distance and shoot at each other directly.” (Lulu)
A very rough suggestion was made.
Maybe this person is getting a bit bored?
Then, Rita-san, who had been quietly observing the situation, made a proposal.
“Then, let’s save the proper match for another time. How about this game as a greeting to each other?” (Rita)
Rita-san suggested setting up ten targets and shooting from the same spot to see how many hits each could make. Four out of the ten targets would be moving (enemies).
“How are we going to move them?” (Lulu)
Lulu-san asked, to which Rita-san pointed at her and said…
“There are four people here who are idle.” (Rita)
As soon as the game started, we started moving within the range. However, Lamie-senpai and I had to aim at each of the six stationary targets at least once, otherwise we wouldn’t be able to shoot the four people. Also, stationary targets only counted towards the points once. The second shot counted as no points.
The four people who were escaping could enter the building, but they must show their faces and fire blank shots toward us a total of four times. However, firing four blank shots in a row was not allowed. They didn’t have to keep moving continuously, but they must space out each shot. Also, until the players had fired six shots, blank shots would be invalid.
Once they have fired four blank shots, they would escape.
“This is an impromptu idea, so there might be some rough parts, but this is roughly the rule. How does it sound?” (Rita)
“Hmm, for an impromptu idea, it seems interesting. If it works well, maybe we can use it in class next time?” (Lulu)
Lulu-san liked it, and there were no objections from Lamie-senpai, so it was decided that we would compete for points with the game that Rita-san came up with.
This is turning into something strange.
The stationary targets were prepared by Rita-san. The two instructors placed them in suitable locations, such as just outside the building’s windows. Their experience as instructors showed in the expertly chosen locations. Additionally, they prepared two colors of paintballs to distinguish which one hit.
“Okay, we’re ready.” (Rita)
Rita-san and Lulu-san came back. The first attack would be by Lamie-senpai, as per her request. It seemed she was still concerned about the earlier “not fair” comment.
The game was finally about to begin.
—
With the shout of “Start!” Rita-san, Lulu-san, Saras-senpai, and Bianca took off running.
Saras-senpai and Bianca, considering mobility, were equipped with handguns instead of sniper rifles.
The gun that Lamy-senpai was holding was no ordinary sniper rifle. The barrel was slightly longer than my beloved rifle (Counter), and the most notable feature was the foldable brace attached to the very back part of the rifle. It was called the stock.
By extending the support bar, she could lean her body back. It was similar to supporting oneself with three legs, adding an extra one to your own.
And, needing that much support means…
When Lamie-senpai pulled the trigger, a *bang* sound echoes, hitting the first target.
It was heavier than the *tum* sound of my rifle. I thought it might be because of the support, but it was definitely a power-focused sniper rifle. It seemed to be a pretty addictive gun.
While I was thinking about that, the stationary targets were already hit by five shots. Only one remained. Once this last one was hit, it was finally time to deal with the moving targets.
The *bang* sound that came quickly was from the building on the right of the main street. Then, another blank shot was heard from a building slightly closer on the left.
This would be quite challenging with four enemies. Everyone would take a shot at any opening, and while aiming at one, another enemy could slip through. But if we chased after every blank shot, we wouldn’t be able to keep up with the pace.
Lamie-senpai seemed to have noticed this as well and decided to focus on specific targets. I felt sorry for Bianca, but the easiest target was Bianca, the first-year student, followed by Saras-senpai.
If the target happened to be Rita-san or Lulu-san, the difficulty of the sniping increased dramatically. Each of them had already fired one blank shot, so I had a rough idea of their locations, though I couldn’t yet identify who fired which shot.
Lamie-senpai took her eyes off the scope once, scanned the surroundings, and then resumed her sniping posture. It seemed she had picked her targets. Meanwhile, everyone had fired their second blank shot.
She was aiming at the rooftop of the building farthest to the right. After a moment of silence, a figure appeared, and at the same instant, a heavy *bang* was heard as she fired the training bullet.
She missed!
Three more blank shots were heard, followed by the fourth. As a figure appeared in the window at the far left, Lamie-senpai’s rifle fired again! This one was also a miss, unfortunately.
Finally, the fourth blank shots from the remaining three targets were heard, signaling the end of the game. At that moment, Lamie-senpai, who had been aiming at the rooftop again, shot and hit one of the enemies!
With the fourth blank shots from the remaining three targets, the game was over. Lamie-senpai’s final score was a total of seven points.
Everyone gathered once more. Bianca was the one who got sniped.
“This is quite fun. It might be even more interesting if we raise the points for the moving targets.” (Lulu)
Lulu-san said, clearly enjoying it.
“There will need to be some adjustments in that area.” (Rita)
Rita-san added, seeming satisfied. They were talking about possibly using it in class.
“Alright, let’s take a short break and then go for the next round!” (Lulu)
Lulu-san looked at me. It was my turn next.
