Suddenly

(Thank you for reading at bayabuscotranslation.com)

“That is… is Marcosias going to be alright?” (Elt)

“Last time, she was all fired up though…” (Stella)

“I-I see…” (Elt)

She’s going to fly! Certainly, it feels like Marcosias would do something like that. Even the one playing her part seemed enthusiastic.

“But, keeping the fact that she’s a Demon a secret? Isn’t that going to be difficult…?” (Elt)

“…Elt-sama believes in my words, doesn’t he? Then I think it’ll be fine. I doubt anyone would think of Maru-chan as a Demon.” (Stella)

“I agree she doesn’t seem like a Demon… but what do you mean by that?” (Elt)

“How exactly does one prove someone is a Demon?” (Stella)

“Well, that’s…” (Elt)

I fell silent.

Now that she mentions it, Marcosias looks completely human at this point. She can even become a puppy, but that too could just be explained as a kind of magic or skill. I’ve only judged her based on her summoned form and my knowledge from a previous life.

Is Marcosias still a Demon now? There’s no way to prove it. Besides, the legendary Marcosias looked vastly different in form. Even in plays, she’s always portrayed as a burly warrior.

“Are you planning to pass off that super acceleration as magic or a skill too?” (Elt)

“Yes, wouldn’t that be fine?” (Stella)

“Hmm… as long as she doesn’t turn into a puppy, the risk of suspicion is low.” (Elt)

Even Leia, Nana, and the other adventurers don’t think of Marcosias as a Demon. In other words, if she just lives normally, people won’t doubt her. Now that I think about it, I’ve never heard of a living Demon in this world. There are legends everywhere, but that’s all. Even the villagers here don’t seem to fear Demons. Maybe they think of them as fictional beings.

“I understand… Stella is probably right. I don’t think people will be all that suspicious.” (Elt)

Magic and skills are confidential information. Especially for nobles, they wouldn’t disclose such things to commoners. Marcosias’s cover is that of a noble lady with amnesia, so that part is well accounted for.

“When will you depart?” (Elt)

“As soon as the Adventurer Guild opens. This will probably be my first large-scale assignment.” (Stella)

“Two S-Rank adventurers working together, after all…” (Elt)

Thinking about it that way, it’s a big deal. Such a quest probably doesn’t come around often.

“…Is there anything I can do?” (Elt)

“Please take care of Dia and Wood, as well as this village.” (Stella)

“Of course.” (Elt)

As I answered, I looked at Stella sipping her herbal tea.

Stella doesn’t seem tense at all. She looks more serious when swinging her bat.

*Gulp*

I swallowed hard.

There’s something I’ve been thinking about. My connection to Stella was originally through Dia and Marcosias. We’ve just been together too long, but that was the nature of our relationship. But that’s not all anymore. The days I spend with her are fun and bring me peace. Things I could never find at home.

Wood, Stella, Marcosias. They are precious family. And now, I have to take a step forward. Maybe I could do it after she returns, but for some reason… I feel like now… suddenly… is the right time to say it.

“Stella, I know this is kind of sudden, but…” (Elt)

“What is it?” (Stella)

Stella blinked in surprise.

“I like you, Stella. Not just as a colleague… but as a woman.” (Elt)

I don’t know what the right way to express it is. So, I just say it directly. My heart is pounding like crazy. Right after I say it, sweat starts pouring out of me.

But Stella heard my words and gave me a soft smile.

“I feel the same, Elt-sama. But… are you sure? I do understand it myself. I’m not exactly normal, you know?” (Stella)

“…I like you, Stella.” (Elt)

She can be a bit eccentric, and lately she keeps squishing my cheeks… but that’s the Stella I like. That, I can say clearly.

“Thank you. I thought, if it were Elt-sama, then…” (Stella)

“I see…” (Elt)

I’m glad. I let out a breath, shoulders relaxing. It was impulsive, but… I’ve said something huge.

“We Elves have sharp senses, you know. So, if something doesn’t fit us physiologically, it’s a no-go. But Elt-sama matched perfectly with me…” (Stella)

“I-Is that so?” (Elt)

But she also uses things like the echoing strike technique just fine. Stella, with such sharp senses. If things don’t match, it wouldn’t work. The fact that she stays means we matched.

“But sorry, for being so sudden…” (Elt)

“It’s fine. That’s just how Elt-sama is, right? But… making quick decisions is one of your strengths.” (Stella)

Saying that, Stella stood and came to my side. Her warm hand gently wrapped around mine.

“Let’s continue to get along from here on too, Elt-sama.” (Stella)

“Same to you, let’s get along.” (Elt)

Saying it out loud really makes my heart race. Even though we sleep together every night.

“Ehehe…” (Stella)

Stella smiled shyly.

Cute.

“Pi-piyo…!?” (Dia)

““Hah!”” (Elt/Stella)

Stella and I turned to see Dia, Marcosias, and Wood there. Dia was still being held by Marcosias, blinking rapidly.

“Don’t look, my master.” (Marcosias)

“P-Piyo! I didn’t see anything, didn’t see anything, piyo!” (Dia)

“Ugo-ugo, close friends!” (Wood)

Dia quickly covered her eyes with her wings.

W-Wait, we were just holding hands though. I wish Marcosias wouldn’t say such misleading things… Dia is clearly misunderstanding. But… this feels like home.

Stella, my own family… there are many things to think about. Even so, this is a step forward. It’s fine to take it slow. Just like this village. As long as it slowly takes a firm shape.

After breakfast, we took a short break. Stella and I explained the plan to Dia, Marcosias, and Wood. Stella’s trip back home, using Marcosias’s super acceleration. Upon hearing it, Marcosias tilted her head.

“So that’s how this power is used, huh…” (Marcosias)

“Yes, it should be usable that way.” (Stella)

“Vroom… piyo!” (Dia)

Sparkle, sparkle. Dia’s eyes are shining.

“A test run is necessary. We’ll have to do it secretly at night.” (Elt)

“Yes, of course… Dia, would you like to try flying too?” (Stella)

“Yes, piyo!?” (Dia)

“Fufu… it’s actually really fun.” (Stella)

Stella touched her chin thoughtfully.

She really does look like she’s enjoying it.

“Next is Nana…” (Elt)

“I’d like to let Leia know as well, if possible.” (Stella)

“Yeah, that would be best. Things will go more smoothly that way.” (Elt)

The plan was set.

After a short rest, we’d talk to the two of them. And then I noticed something.

After breakfast, the distance between Stella and me feels even closer… I think. Sitting together on the sofa, we’re practically touching. But I really did say it, huh. And she accepted it. It feels like a dream. It was sudden, but I’m glad I said it.

That’s what I truly think.

Finally got that payoff moment. This family atmosphere is so sweet, I can’t get enough. This novel barely has any conflict which I don’t really mind at all. But the romance/home life was important to me and it’s done a great job building everything up to this point.
