Adventurer Polo’s Daily Life

Polo, a first-class adventurer, was a teacher of the adventurer class.

“Well then, that’s all for today.” (Polo)

“Everyone, stand up! Bow to Polo-sensei. Thank you very much.” (Students)

“Sensei, there’s something I don’t understand from today’s lesson.” (Student)

As Polo was about to return to the staff room after the lesson, students came to ask questions.

“I tried to bend my wrist and hold it down, but it didn’t work.” (Student)

Today’s lesson was on self-defense. He taught techniques for subduing a person who lunges at their own with a blade, but it seemed they didn’t quite understand it.

“Hmm. Well then, come at me.” (Polo)

“Y-Yes. Here I go!” (Student)

The students timidly rushed at me with the imitation swords they had used in class. Polo dodged the student’s attack with agility that was hard to believe for an old man, then grabbed his wrist and bent it.

“Here you go.” (Polo)

“Ouch! Ouch, ouch, ouch!!” (Student)

The student, who completely caught in the technique, dropped the weapon in defeat.

“Now, listen carefully. I’ll show you again in slow motion. This time, come at me slowly.” (Polo)

Polo adjusted his stance so the students could see better, then demonstrated the technique in slow motion, explaining it as he went.

“Dodge the first strike. Then, get into the opponent’s range. Grab their dominant hand with your dominant hand and flip it over like this. There you go.” (Polo)

“Ouch! Ouch, ouch, ouch!!” (Student)

Though it was slower, and the students could see what Polo was doing, they still seemed confused.

“The first strike is really hard to dodge.” (Student)

“You’re only able to do it because you’re Polo-sensei, right?” (Student)

The students seemed to understand the theory, but it was difficult to perform the technique. Of course, such techniques were not easy to master right away. He hoped they would improve with more practice in future lessons.

“No, no. I wasn’t always good at it from the start either. Everything requires training, training. Keep practicing.” (Polo)

“Yes, thank you very much.” (Student)

“Polo-sensei, may I sit next to you?” (Tyr)

“Oh, Tyr-sensei. Of course, of course.” (Polo)

After being freed from the students, Polo went to the cafeteria for lunch, and Tyr sat next to him. Tyr was the older brother of Lord Arc and the brother of Headmistress Minerva. He was also a teacher in the military class. Perhaps out of a sense of responsibility as a member of the ruling family, Tyr had been looking after Polo, a newcomer to Mikanda, making sure everything went smoothly.

“Polo-sensei, the self-defense lessons you gave were very popular in my class as well.” (Tyr)

“That’s good to hear.” (Polo)

Originally, he had taught self-defense in the adventurer class, but after receiving requests, he began teaching it in the military class as well.

At first, Polo only taught the adventurer class twice a week, but now, with the addition of the military class, he would be coming to the university four times a week.

“I’m sorry the schedule’s become a bit more intense, but I’ll be relying on you.” (Tyr)

“It’s no problem! I’m still active, after all. Hahaha!” (Polo)

Tyr said his thanks with a slightly apologetic tone, to which Polo cheerfully responded.

In the afternoon, there were no classes to teach, so Polo went home. His house was located very close to the university which was closer than the student dorms. Minerva had arranged the house for him. Polo walked past the sports ground on his way home.

On the wide ground, the students from the military class were engaged in mock battles. They were divided into two teams, and each team chose a student to play the role of the commander. It had become a tradition that the losing team would do 100 push-ups by evening.

“Well, well. They’re starting to look more professional.” (Polo)

Polo knew many of the faces in the military class because he taught them self-defense as well. Not long ago, the students had been too scared to even open their eyes when holding practice swords. But now, they all fought like seasoned warriors.

Polo smiled proudly as he watched his students’ progress on his way home.

“I’m home.” (Polo)

“Ah, welcome home. You’re back early.” (Wife)

When Polo arrived home, his wife was sitting and knitting.

“Yeah, today my classes were only in the morning.” (Polo)

“Did you tell Minerva?” (Wife)

As Polo put his bag down and began unpacking, his wife asked nervously.

“Huh? Tell her what?” (Polo)

“Oh, come on!” (Wife)

The lady pouts in displeasure when Polo doesn’t remember the promise.

“You promised me, didn’t you? That I’d be allowed to teach at the university too.” (Wife)

“Ah, that’s right. I completely forgot.” (Polo)

His wife, who was now with completely white hair, had once been an adventurer. Back when Polo was a third-class adventurer, they had formed a party together. After getting married, she retired to take care of the home, but she had occasionally gone on adventures as a substitute.

“How many decades has it been since you retired from the front lines? You shouldn’t be teaching students now.” (Polo)

“Oh please, when it comes to cooking, there’s no adventurer who can beat me.” (Wife)

Polo remembered that well. He had married her because she had captured his heart with her cooking.

Whether in the desert, on a ship, in the forest, or on a cliffside, she always managed to make delicious meals. Polo had been able to become a first-class adventurer because his wife had supported him with food as he traveled across the continent, saving people from all over.

“Don’t you think there’s a demand for teaching how to distinguish between edible and non-edible leaves?” (Wife)

“Mmhm.” (Polo)

It was true that cooking was an essential skill for adventurers. If Polo recommended her, there was no doubt she would be hired as a teacher. However, it was surprising to hear that his wife wanted to teach so much.

“Why do you want to be a teacher?” (Polo)

After so many years spent in the home, his wife had stayed largely the same. By nature, she was a somewhat introverted person who preferred staying indoors, knitting or reading. She was never someone who had shown interest in teaching.

His wife immediately answered Polo’s question.

“Because… you’ve changed so much recently.” (Wife)

“Yeah? You think so?” (Polo)

“You just seem so happy.” (Wife)

“… Can you tell?” (Polo)

Before coming here, Polo had been teaching adventurers as a mentor in the capital city. However, adventurers had to earn their living on a daily basis, so there was no time to teach techniques slowly. They taught only basic skills and focused on practical combat.

Some of his students lost their lives because they were inexperienced. Others had struggled to grow because they were too busy surviving. Polo had always regretted that.

But here, it was different. He could teach each student at a steady pace.

The joy of seeing students grow day by day. The joy of being surrounded by so many students. And most of all, the joy of interacting directly with these young, passionate students.

When Polo had been recruited by Rishu to teach in Mikanda, he had been reluctant. He thought of it as just a temporary measure while the kingdom settled down. But in practice, he found that mentoring the next generation gave him a deep sense of fulfillment.

In Mikanda, located in the far west of the continent, Polo, the first-class adventurer who had crossed the continent saving people, had chosen this place for his final chapter.

“At this very moment, this is the brightest time of my life.” (Polo)

Polo sat on the veranda, overlooking the sports ground, watching the students engrossed in mock battles, and smiled contentedly.
