Founding of University

(Thank you for reading at bayabuscotranslation.com)

The discussion about the future policy of Mikanda territory had started, but the opinions were divided, especially among Arc and his siblings.

“Right now, we’re busy developing each town, so shouldn’t we just keep focusing on that for a while?” (Yanna)

Yanna was conservative. Her opinion was that there was no need to implement new policies since they were already in the midst of developing the cities. The mayors of the cities nodded in agreement, showing their support for this view.

“But, the Third Town has Yanna-neesan, and the Forth Town has Rishu, both doing a great job. So, I think there’s more we can do elsewhere.” (Arc)

Rishu reacted to Arc’s attempt to persuade Yanna.

“I’m managing the city, even putting aside my work as an adventurer, so you could help me out, you know?” (Rishu)

“Of course, I understand that Rishu is doing his best too. But, since we came to the Mikanda region, the First Town hasn’t changed at all. It’s the center of Warden territory, so I want to develop it properly.” (Arc)

“Yes.” (Tyr/Minerva)

Tyr and Minerva both raised their hands at the same time. Perhaps they were unsure who should speak first, but after exchanging glances, Tyr, being the elder brother, started speaking.

“I still think we should build a military school. Up until now, we’ve relied on mobilizing adventurers and farmers for military requests from the kingdom, but isn’t it time to train our own professional soldiers? The kingdom is going to fall into more chaos.” (Tyr)

Minerva followed.

“I believe we should build a regular school. The top priority should be to train competent people to manage the territory, right? So far, capable people have come because of the old ties to Warden territory, but from now on, we need to train them ourselves.” (Minerva)

Both of them advocated for the construction of a school in the first city, but the contents of the schools were entirely different.

“Minerva. How many years do you think it takes to train a capable official? Right now, the kingdom is in turmoil, and there are plenty of smart people with nowhere to go. We don’t need to train them. We can just hire them.” (Tyr)

“Tyr-niisama, you can say the same thing about soldiers. You can just hire mercenaries. That’s how the old Warden territory used to operate, and soldiers are only necessary during wars.” (Tyr)

“You clearly don’t understand the role of the military at all.” (Minerva)

Arc hurriedly stopped the two as they began to argue. Tyr and Minerva were both too stubborn, and they would argue relentlessly. Eventually, Minerva would likely end up crying. Arc forcefully moved the discussion forward.

“For now, let’s wait until all opinions have been shared before we start debating!” (Arc)

“Then can I throw in one more thing? I’d like an adventurer school, if possible~.” (Rishu)

With Arc’s words, a request also came from Lichu.

“So, the current proposals are Tyr-niisan’s military school, Minerva’s regular school, and Rishu’s adventurer school. Lichu, I don’t know much about adventurers, but do you really need to establish a school for adventurers?” (Arc)

“Well, how should I put it… There are plenty of adventurers who haven’t been to a school, but they’re really just ‘self-proclaimed’ adventurers.” (Rishu)

Since no one in the Warden family had experience as an adventurer, Rishu gave a detailed explanation about adventurers.

<About Adventurer Classes>

Adventurers have qualifications, ranging from class 6 to class 1. It seems that there are a certain number of adventurers who don’t attend an adventurer school, but they are unqualified and can only take on simple physical labor jobs.

6th Class (about 10% of the total)
Just graduated from adventurer school, practically beginners.

5th Class (about 50% of the total)
After one year of working as a class 6 adventurer, they can be promoted. This is the most common class among adventurers.

4th Class (about 30% of the total)
After working as a class 5 adventurer for over a year, they can be promoted if they pass the guild exam.

3rd Class (about 5% of the total)
Selected once a year by each adventurer guild after excelling as a class 4 adventurer. The average age is about 30.

2nd Class (less than 1% of the total)
After achieving significant accomplishments as a class 3 adventurer, they can be promoted by passing a test among adventurers recommended by each guild. In the kingdom, 0 to 1 class 2 adventurers emerge annually. Currently, there are about 40 in Laplace Kingdom.

1st Class (2 people in the kingdom)
Among those who have excelled for many years as class 2 adventurers, a few are chosen. There are currently 17 on the continent. In Laplace Kingdom, there are two. Polo, who spent 20 years crossing the continent from east to west while saving people, and Yuon, the first adventurer in continental history to be appointed as a noble.

“That’s why, to gather high-quality adventurers, building an adventurer school is the best option. Anyway, since it’ll take over 10 years to fully develop the Mikanda region, I think there’ll be plenty of work for adventurers too.” (Rishu)

“Indeed.” (Arc)

“We’ll have to provide some funds to the Adventurer’s Guild to get approval as a school, but other than that, the costs won’t be too high. After teaching the basics, it’s all about practical experience.” (Rishu)

“I see.” (Arc)

“Besides, I think there are only about five adventurer schools in the kingdom, so there’s not much competition either.” (Rishu)

“Understood. Then—” (Arc)

It seemed like building an adventurer school would have more advantages. The initial investment wouldn’t be too high either.

“Onii-sama!” (Minerva)

“Wait, wait! What about the military school?” (Tyr)

Just as Arc was about to conclude, swayed by Lichu’s smooth-talking, his siblings hurriedly interrupted. It seemed they couldn’t accept how easily the decision was being made to build the adventurer school. Rishu, realizing he had pushed things smoothly, stuck out his tongue mischievously.

Just as they were about to examine which school to choose, their sister Yanna clapped her hands to grab their attention. She hated long meetings more than anything.

“Why don’t we just build them all? The regular school, the military school, and the adventurer school.” (Yanna)

“Nee-san? But the budget—” (Arc)

“Just borrow the money. The Warden Household is not only nobility but the top merchants in the kingdom. Other merchants will scramble to invest.” (Yanna)

It wouldn’t be so easy, but if they could borrow from others, building all the schools didn’t seem too far-fetched. The Warden Household was the leading merchant in the kingdom and also had noble status. For lenders, there was no risk of them fleeing, so it would only bring benefits.

“I agree with Yanna-sama. Arc, as a merchant, you must know this, but everything is about focus and choice. When it’s time to spend big, you’ve got to do it.” (Rishu)

“Looks like it’s decided.” (Minerva)

“I have no objections either.” (Tyr)

Rishu, Minerva, and Tyr all agreed with Yanna’s plan. On the other hand, Arc didn’t like the idea of going into debt. It made him uneasy. But with everyone agreeing, he had no choice.

“Fine. But to avoid taking on too much debt, we’ll build all the schools within what the Warden Merchant Guild can afford. We’ll start small until things get on track.” (Arc)

He decided to leave everything related to the schools entirely to Minerva.

“Minerva, since I’ve appointed you as the Education Officer, I’ll leave all aspects of school construction to you. Is that alright?” (Arc)

“Onii-sama! Then let’s call it Mikanda University!” (Minerva)

“University?” (Arc)

“Yes, instead of just individual schools, we’ll integrate the military school and adventurer school as well, making it a ‘university.’ In short, a ‘unified school,’ which we’ll call a university!” (Minerva)

“I see… Well, Minerva, I’ll give you full authority over the university. I’m counting on you.” (Arc)

The kingdom was being swept up in a storm of upheaval. In response, the Warden Household decided to invest a significant amount of funds in securing and training talent. Whether this would turn out to be a blessing or a curse for the Warden Household and the kingdom remained to be seen.
