Saxon (2): Saxon’s Pride

(Thank you for reading at bayabuscotranslation.com)

**Today’s Diary**

Today, Saxon’s older brother, Brigadier General Bind, came to visit. Although we had only learned about it in class and it didn’t really sink in, a brigadier general is quite a high-ranking position. As expected of a member of the Parady Household, which ranks among the top five military noble families.

However, as Saxon had said, his personality was quite… no, extremely difficult to deal with. I started to understand why Saxon wanted to leave his family.

Saxon’s older brother, Bind, suddenly showed up during our morning class the next day.
The door was pushed open violently, and three men barged in, completely ignoring the fact that a lesson was in progress. Two of them, who were large and muscular, flanked a smaller, well-dressed man and stood firmly with their arms crossed at the center of the podium. The man on the right took a deep breath and then shouted at a volume that was almost deafening.

“Brigadier General Bind is here! Stand up and bow immediately!” (??)

Under the force of his command, some of the students started to rise, but Fol-sensei, who was teaching, calmly stopped them by saying…

“There is no need to stand. We are in the middle of a lesson.” (Fol)

Then, he turned to face the three men.

“What is the meaning of this? You were not supposed to arrive until the afternoon, were you? And we are currently in class.” (Fol)

“Who the hell are you?” (??)

The man, who had yelled earlier, growled and looked menacingly at Fol-sensei. However, Fol-sensei didn’t even spare him a glance and ignored him entirely. Though the man continued to bark “Hey!” and “You there!” as if he didn’t exist, Fol-sensei only looked at Brigadier General Bind. Then, Brigadier General Bind extended his hand to the side and slowly turned to face Fol-sensei.

“Oh, I just wanted to see my dear little brother as soon as possible, that’s all. Besides, if an accident of this level causes the students of this academy to be disturbed, then one would have to question the competence of the teachers, wouldn’t they?” (Bind)

He said with a smile.

What an unpleasant guy.

“So, Brigadier General Bind, have you perhaps lost your hearing on the front lines? It seems you cannot hear my words.” (Fol)

Fol-sensei replied without even raising an eyebrow, completely unfazed by Bind’s sarcasm.

Ignoring Fol-sensei this time, Bind turned his gaze towards the students and called out.

“Ah, my beloved brother, there you are.” (Bind)

He directed his words at Saxon, but he just silently glared back at him.

“Honestly, my brother, who made a special effort to come and see you early, and this is how you respond? As a failure, at the very least, you should improve your manners for the sake of your future. But no matter. Well then, everyone, see you again this afternoon.” (Bind)

After rattling off like that, he left the classroom with his two attendants in tow.

“What was that all about?” (Frank)

Frank’s casual comment resounded strangely in the suddenly silent classroom.

“Now then, back to the lesson…” (Fol)

Fol-sensei resumed the class as if nothing had happened.

I glanced back and forth between Frank and Fol-sensei, oddly impressed by how strong their minds were.

In the afternoon, albeit reluctantly, we walked to the practical skills area to receive training from Brigadier General Bind. Still, no one complained or grumbled, likely because of the unexpected event that had happened just before lunch. As soon as the morning class ended, Saxon stood up and said, “Listen up for a moment,” drawing everyone’s attention to him. After a brief pause, Saxon bowed his head and said, “I apologize; this is my fault,” which surprised everyone.

“Saxon, I don’t think Brigadier General Bind’s unpleasant personality is your fault.” (Roy)

Roy-kun said to Saxon, but Saxon shook his head.

“No.” (Saxon)

Saxon replied, denying it.

“At the very least, the reason he’s here is because I’m in this class. You could say he came here just to mess with me.” (Saxon)

“All the way to the academy?” (Lux)

I asked.

“That’s just the kind of person he is.” (Saxon)

Saxon said.

“Once he’s satisfied with beating me up a bit, he’ll leave, so just bear with it until then. He’s still a brigadier general, after all. You won’t be singled out unnecessarily.” (Saxon)

It was hard to argue with Saxon when he spoke like that, especially coming from someone who usually spoke so proudly and looked down on others. That was why we silently made our way to the training area.

Now that I think about it, yesterday Saxon asked for an instructor who could keep Brigadier General Bind’s rampage in check. I wonder which instructor will be overseeing the training today.

Just as we were about to arrive at the training area…

“Hey! What the hell is going on here?!” (??)

A familiar woman’s voice rang out.

Yep, I know exactly who it is. It is that person… the one you should never mix with.

I had already guessed, but I still held onto a sliver of hope as we headed to the training grounds. Sure enough, it was Instructor Lulu who was there to supervise Brigadier General Bind’s training.

Wow, what a choice. Saxon had asked for an instructor who could “stop” Brigadier General Bind, but I don’t recall him saying anything about doing so “physically”.

As expected, there had already been some sort of commotion, and Instructor Lulu looked quite displeased.

“Well, shall we begin?” (Bind)

Brigadier General Bind suggested.

“Yeah, do whatever you want.” (Lulu)

Instructor Lulu spat out, sounding almost dismissive.

Is it really okay to speak to a brigadier general like that? Then again, Fol-sensei was also fairly rude earlier… so maybe it’s fine.

“Alright, let’s start with some practical training. First, pick six people to form a squad. As for the Knight (Ritter), my brother should take that role. Surely, you’re the best Knight (Ritter) in this class, aren’t you?” (Bind)

Bind said with a sneer, clearly trying to provoke. He watched Saxon stay silent for a moment before continuing.

“Now, let me explain the rules. It’s simple. It’s a mock battle. Your opponents will be the three of us. You will have six on your side. To win, you must land a single blow on me.” (Bind)

“So, if Saxon gets hit, does that mean we lose?” (Roy)

Roy-kun asked.

“No, there is no losing in this battle. It’s not my hobby to let my dear little brother be utterly humiliated. Whether it’s the Knight (Ritter) or the soldiers following them, even if they get shot, it won’t count as a loss. The mock battle will continue. Of course, we will be using rubber bullets as well. It will hurt a little, but bear with it. Consider it the cost of learning from your mistakes.” (Bind)

Brigadier General Bind paused and looked around at us.

“As for the rest of the students, you will be running laps through the grasslands and wastelands of this area. You are not permitted to rest until the battle is decided.” (Bind)

His words caused a stir among us.

He said there was no losing in this mock battle, meaning it won’t end unless Saxon defeats Brigadier General Bind. But judging by the looks of it, the two men accompanying Bind seem to be quite skilled.

I remember Maria’s father saying, “They surround themselves with talented individuals bought with money and power.” If these are those kinds of soldiers, then it would be easy for them to crush us, who have only been enrolled for half a year. And, to make matters worse, one of them is a Heavy Trooper (Armor). It’s obvious now that Brigadier General Bind has no intention of losing.

As Saxon said, Bind is likely planning to beat Saxon down while simultaneously lowering his standing in the eyes of the other students. Yeah, to put it mildly, this is downright nasty.

“I’ll give you time to choose your team. Let’s say I’ll be waiting on that hill over there. When you’re ready, fire a blank round. That will be the signal to start. However, I won’t wait longer than 30 minutes. If that time passes, the battle will automatically begin. Understood?” (Bind)

He said all this and then walked away with his entourage toward the hill, not even waiting for a reply.

Saxon hung his head for a moment.

“Alright, I guess I’ll pick a few from our team, Earl Crush…” (Saxon)

But before he could finish, Lite wrapped his arm around Saxon’s neck and pulled him in forcefully.

“Count me in too!” (Lite)

Despite the slight irritation in his voice, Saxon pushed Lite’s arm away.

“I told you at lunch. I’ll try to get us out of this quickly. Just run like you’re supposed to.” (Saxon)

However, Lite refused to back down.

“Look, if we make our move, this’ll end faster. With you winning, no less.” (Lite)

He said with a sly grin.

Saxon narrowed his eyes slightly.

“You have a plan, then?” (Saxon)

“Of course. We need me, Lev, a skilled Spearman (Lancer), a sniper, and for the last spot, any Heavy Trooper (Armor) with a big enough shield to cover us.” (Lite)

“Fine, what’s the plan?” (Saxon)

Saxon asked, crossing his arms.

Lite moved closer, lowering his voice.

“Alright, listen closely…” (Lite)

After hearing Light’s strategy, Saxon’s first words were…

“This… might actually work.” (Saxon)

Listening from the side, I had to agree. It was a solid plan.

“Alright, I’ll go with your strategy.” (Saxon)

Saxon decided.

“Will, I need you.” (Saxon)

Will, a lancer from Saxon’s team, Earl Crush, was always at his side.

“And Bianca, can you join us?” (Saxon)

Saxon called out next.

However, Bianca’s response was unexpected.

“Let Lux take my place.” (Bianca)

She said firmly.

“What?” (Saxon)

Saxon frowned while looking at Bianca.

“Even if it stings to admit, Lux is better than me right now,” she said, her hands clenched into fists. “For a plan like this, he’s the better choice.”

Seeing Bianca’s clear frustration, Saxon silently turned to face me.

“Can you handle it?” (Saxon)

He asked.

“As long as I don’t disappoint Bianca’s recommendation.” (Lux)

I replied confidently.

Saxon looked down for a brief moment, then raised his head with determination in his eyes.

“Alright, then. I’m counting on you.” (Saxon)

With that, the battle began.
