Facing off Holy Knight Heroine

“Thank you very much. But… since we have the opportunity, I would be pleased if His Highness Harold could escort me this time.” (Christia)

Uhh… are you choosing me now? I’m not happy about this. I want to refuse as strongly as possible. So, Wilfred, could you stop glaring at me already? It’s not like I volunteered for this.

“Aren’t you going to escort me…?” (Christia)

“Ugh. No, it would be my honor.” (Harold)

Christia’s emerald eyes glistened as she gazed up at me, her expression cunningly adorable.
Because of that, I couldn’t bring myself to refuse, and with a strained smile, I took her hand.

Even so…

“Hehe, the royal palace of the Dehaubalz Kingdom is truly magnificent.” (Christia)

As we walked through the palace, Christia wore a constant smile, occasionally glancing over at me. This kind of situation would be fitting if a handsome man were the escort, but unfortunately, with my rather villainous looks, it didn’t feel right.

There’s one thing I can say for sure. I’m really glad Xandra isn’t here. If she sees me like this, she’d definitely get jealous. Absolutely, she’d get jealous. I must avoid that at all costs, including tonight’s party.

“By the way… Your Highness Harold, how do you usually spend your time?” (Christia)

That’s a tough question to answer. I spend everyday training with Xandra, neglecting my duties as the Third Prince. But why should I care if I’m liked or not? I might as well answer truthfully.

“I spend every day with my fiancée. For the past six months, I’ve mostly been training in martial arts.” (Harold)

“Oh my! Is that so!” (Christia)

Christia’s unexpected interest made me taken aback.

Does Christia have an interest in that sort of thing?

I tried to recall my memories from my past life and remember Christia’s character settings. The answer was no. Those kinds of topics were a no-go in the romance part.

“Hehe. In that case, how about having a sparring match with my attendant, Carla? She is also a holy knight, so I believe it would be beneficial for both of you.” (Christia)

“Hmm?” (Harold)

Christia’s suggestion made me let out a bewildered sound.

My bad feeling came true. My instincts are only accurate at times like these, which is really inconvenient.

“I’m not suited to be a sparring partner for a holy knight! That’s absolutely impossible.” (Harold)

“Brother Harold, shouldn’t you at least accept her offer?” (Wilfred)

Damn it! Wilfred, don’t say unnecessary things! I can tell just by the condescending look in your eyes that you’re hoping Carla will humiliate me.

“I’d really love to see how wonderful Your Highness Harold is in a duel…” (Christia)

“Ugh.” (Harold)

Christia gazed up at me, her hand tightly gripping mine, her expression all coy and flirtatious. I wanted to pull my hand away immediately, but as a saintess and the representative of the Baltian Holy Kingdom’s delegation, I couldn’t outright reject her.

Sigh… She really got me this time.

As I glanced around, I noticed Carla looking at me with a sympathetic gaze. I bet she has to deal with this kind of thing regularly.

I feel for her. I really do.

“All right. But I’m weak, so please don’t expect much from me.” (Harold)

“Hehe! Thank you! Well then, let’s do it first thing tomorrow!” (Chrstia)

Christia wrapped things up quickly, and I let out another deep sigh.

“…And that’s the situation.” (Harold)

That evening, on the day the delegation arrived, I explained everything to Xandra, who was now dressed in a beautiful gown. Until I saw her, I was really dreading tomorrow’s match with Carla. But now, all thoughts of the duel have faded away, and my focus was solely on her.

I mean, Xandra is always stunning, but she’s never looked more beautiful than she does now.
The gown, which is mainly blue like her eyes with black accents, suits her perfectly. Most of all, the black accents match my hair color. I couldn’t be happier.

Oh, and of course, my ceremonial outfit has blue details, representing her color. We are engaged, after all. So, this is only natural.

“Whew… It seems the Saintess has quite a troublesome personality” (Alexandra)

Xandra sighed, pressing her fingers to her temple.

“Yeah.” (Harold)

I nodded weakly in agreement. I didn’t want to bring this up right before the party, but if I kept quiet, it could lead to misunderstandings. I’d hate to see her hurt because of that.

“I understand the situation. I will also be present at tomorrow’s match with the holy knight. So, what do you plan to do, Haru-sama?” (Alexandra)

“What do you mean?” (Harold)

“With your abilities, Haru-sama, you wouldn’t even take a single hit, but since you have no means to attack, it would just be a waste of time.” (Alexandra)

“Ah, right.” (Harold)

My weapon of choice is a shield, and as Xandra pointed out, this would likely just end in a stalemate.

“But that’s not all. If I may be blunt, I believe this is a great opportunity to showcase your abilities, to wake up those who have been unfairly underestimating you. At the same time, I worry that revealing the real you might lead to some unintended consequences…” (Alexandra)

With those words, Xandra lowered her gaze.

You’re always thinking about me, aren’t you? In that case, there’s only one thing for me to do.

“I think I’m going to deliberately lose the match tomorrow.” (Harold)

“Haru-sama…?” (Alexandra)

“I don’t care what others think of me, nor do I have any interest in it. What matters most is that you know my worth.” (Harold)

“Oh…” (Alexandra)

That’s right. The only thing I care about, or should I say the only thing I fear is disappointing my beloved fiancée. If others want to call me the ‘incompetent brat prince’, let them.

“Honestly…” (Alexandra)

Xandra took my hand, looking somewhat displeased as she muttered. However, even with her head down, she couldn’t hide the happy smile spreading across her lips.

I think this protagonist choose to act weak because he assumes his character is having a paper thin defense (it’s mention in early chapters) while having high amount of mana. However, that could be incorrect as he discovers he can become stronger in defense after training. Another logical explanation I can think of is that he would want to stay low profile at the moment, not attracting unnecessary attention so that he can buff himself up first before challenging the academy arc.
