Stella and the others began to make their way around the Grand Cathedral. Stella carried Dia in her arms, while Kate held Marcosias.
“This is so smooth and silky.” (Kate)
“That is the result of proper care.” (Marcosias)
“Yes, it feels like fine silk.” (Kate)
From within the costume, Kate’s voice sounded pleased. The soft Marcosias relaxed comfortably in her arms.
“Piyo. Maru-chan is very popular, piyo.” (Dia)
“Yes, that seems to be the case.” (Stella)
“Maru-chan is the pride of our home, piyo. It is only natural that she is popular, piyo.” (Dia)
Dia flapped her little wings cheerfully.
“Now then, shall we continue?” (Victor)
“I will be in your care.” (Stella)
“Count on me.” (Marcosias)
“Let’s go, piyo.” (Dia)
With that, the costume group and Stella’s party departed from their booth. The first place they arrived at was the neighboring booth of Zanzas.
“Oh my, are you here for a visit?” (Leia)
Leia welcomed them warmly. In addition to a cockatrice hat, she wore a cockatrice pouch, a cockatrice backpack, and even a cockatrice ring. She was fully adorned in cockatrice-themed goods.
“Yes, it seems you are doing very well.” (Stella)
Stella smiled brightly.
“These are just prototypes for now. I am not sure if we can move to mass production yet.” (Leia)
“They are so full of piyo charm, piyo.” (Dia)
“There are actually more, but for appearance’s sake, I am showing only a portion.” (Leia)
The people at the Zanzas booth were all dressed differently. Some wore shoes inspired by cockatrices, while others donned light armor.
“There certainly are many kinds. Very colorful indeed.” (Marcosias)
“Piyo. When you look at it like this, it is very bright and flashy, piyo.” (Dia)
While stroking Dia in her arms, Stella spoke gently.
“Zanzas is a trading city, after all. I have been there myself, and it is a wonderfully colorful and charming place.” (Stella)
“Piyo. I want to go there someday, piyo.” (Dia)
If Healberry Village was a peaceful, green dwelling surrounded by great trees, then Zanzas was its opposite, vivid and full of color.
“So many cockatrice goods.” (Kate)
From within her costume, Kate surveyed the Zanzas booth.
“Yes, there are many. Ah, please take this.” (Leia)
Leia smiled kindly and handed over a small box decorated with a cheerful cockatrice design.
“It smells sweet.” (Marcosias)
“These are Piyo Cookies, made with a small amount of the nuts that cockatrices love to eat.” (Leia)
“Piyo. How wonderful, piyo.” (Dia)
“I see. This kind of souvenir is perfect.” (Stella)
Kate accepted the small box and stared for a while at the illustrated cockatrice on the package. Then, she tucked it carefully into the belly pocket of her costume.
“Piyo. Does it really fit in there, piyo?” (Dia)
“It fits. Yes.” (Kate)
“The people from the north are mysterious, piyo.” (Dia)
Dia tilted her head in curiosity, and Kate responded with a knowing look.
“The looseness around the stomach allows for extra room.” (Kate)
“You are just making that up.” (Marcosias)
Kate seemed quite pleased with Marcosias’s swift retort.
“You are very clever.” (Kate)
“Piyo. Maru-chan has been praised, piyo.” (Dia)
“Yes, indeed. Maru-chan is very clever.” (Stella)
Stella was gradually beginning to understand Kate’s nature. The air around her was strikingly similar to that of Doctor Cocka when he had stared at Marcosias outside the cathedral. As expected, they were father and daughter.
After taking a full look around the Zanzas booth, they said their goodbyes to Leia. Interestingly, many of the same products were also sold in Healberry Village’s souvenir corner.
“It is noon now, and most visitors have gone out for lunch. If you wish to look around, now is the best time.” (Victor)
“That is true. Dia, Maru-chan, are you hungry?” (Stella)
“I am fine, piyo.” (Dia)
“I ate plenty for breakfast, so I am not hungry.” (Marcosias)
“Good girl, good girl.” (Kate)
Kate gently stroked under Marcosias’s chin with her padded costume hand.
“Then, shall we head to the next booth, oh.” (Kate)
Kate suddenly stopped and looked toward the back of the booth.
There stood Audrey and Clarissa, who had been browsing the cockatrice merchandise. Behind them waited Sistelia.
“Kate-oneechan?” (Audrey)
“Is it really you?” (Clarissa)
Audrey looked surprised, while Clarissa seemed a little unsure. Her ability to identify people in costume was not quite as sharp as Audrey’s.
“Yes. I came.” (Kate)
Kate lifted one arm of her costume softly. Her voice carried a tone of nostalgia and happiness.
“Sistelia, you seem well.” (Kate)
“Yes, thanks to everyone’s care.” (Sistelia)
Sistelia immediately recognized the voice. It belonged to Audrey’s cousin, Kate. Though they were close in age, Kate was already known as a prodigy for her mastery of mana and her vast knowledge.
Even in a costume, that reputation remained.
“Piyo. Audrey and Clarissa, are you two looking around too, piyo?” (Dia)
“Yes, while the guests are out for lunch.” (Audrey)
“We have looked around a little, but not much yet.” (Clarissa)
Audrey and Clarissa were both very busy, so this was their brief chance to see the exhibits.
“Then, let’s go together, piyo.” (Dia)
“That sounds like a good idea.” (Marcosias)
At Dia and Marcosias’s suggestion, both girls nodded eagerly.
“Yes.” (Audrey)
“Right.” (Clarissa)
“Piyo. Let us look around, piyo.” (Dia)
At Dia’s cheerful cry, the children raised their arms high.
““Oh.”” (Audrey/Clarissa)
Stella watched them with a warm and gentle smile.
