(POV switch – Mira)
After entering the seventh floor, my heart thumped loudly from tension and excitement.
The monster Kouta had identified as the representative of this floor was indeed an ‘Oni’. Its terrifying visage and massive physique exuded pressure beyond imagination. Even Emilia and Sofia were pushed back by its power. Its swift movements, unsuitable for its size, were nightmarish.
Crows diving from the sky unexpectedly frayed my nerves, while ‘Dobby’ and ‘Redcap’ attacked with full strength on the seventh floor, where there was no fog. Each battle demanded intense focus and depleted our stamina. Then, from the forest clearing, the sky revealed a massive flock of crows. It seemed impossible to break through. I felt the urge to flee, gritting my teeth and struggling against fear.
“Not yet.” (Kouta)
Despite the flock blackening the sky, Kouta remained completely calm.
Is your heart truly made of diamond?
Amid the tension, where one second felt like a minute, my legs shook and tears welled as his voice rang out.
“Now!!” (Kouta)
“Direct Pain!” (Adelaide)
A scream escaped my lips involuntarily. Yet what followed was beyond all imagination.
The sky fell.
The crows that had blackened the sky were all driven to the ground, leaving only a few surviving. The land beneath, previously darkened by the crows, was now blanketed in black mist. The deaths of the great flock struck us with renewed terror. Yet before we could shudder in fear, he turned and smiled.
“Senpai, thank you for your efforts. Well then, everyone, this is a little different from what we anticipated, but let us act according to our assigned roles!” (Kouta)
His teasing words brought relief. Following his instructions, my fear began to subside. Thankfully, I had not come to fear and avoid Adelaide, who had caused this crisis. I echoed Kouta in offering her words of encouragement.
“Haruka! That one!” (Kouta)
It was the crow that Kouta had identified earlier, still showing the will to fight. Following his instructions, Haruka charged at it at incredible speed. Haruka’s sword moved freely, and the monster evaded and countered with equal intensity.
Unbelievable! Even from a distance, I could barely track Haruka’s movement, yet the monster responded fiercely. This must be the territory of a so-called ‘boss’ monster.
Everyone stopped to watch the battle. Adelaide immediately used an appraisal item with impressive efficiency.
Finally, the ‘Yatagarasu’s’ beak struck Haruka’s gauntlet, prompting him to scream for help. I joined instantly, delivering a coordinated finishing blow akin to our efforts against the Goblin King. As the ‘Yatagarasu’ fell, Kouta began speaking aloud. Everyone’s eyes naturally turned toward him. Though brief, his speech compelled me to clench my hands.
He smiled, activating his Magic Eye. I resolved to catch up to him. The remaining task was simple, finish off the crows still writhing on the ground.
Nearby, Muze busily collected feathers in an eco-bag. Though she appeared childlike, I was fully aware that her nature was far from it.
“What are you doing, Muze?” (Mira)
“I am collecting drop items, you see.” (Muze)
“Eh? The crow feathers?” (Mira)
“Unlike the crows on the ground, dungeon crows do not drop feathers. Only drop items are released. We must hurry or they will be absorbed by the dungeon!” (Muze)
Hearing this, we hurriedly began collecting drop items.
