Wood and the Uniform Exhibit

The Great Cathedral.

At last, Audrey and the others arrived at Wood’s work.

“This is incredible.” (Audrey)

Having taken in the entirety of the piece, Audrey spoke with a voice filled with awe.

In a single phrase, Wood’s creation could be described as a blend of intricacy and grandeur. Several bats stood tall, entwined with vines and branches stretched between them. The colorful cotton that Wood himself had produced was lavishly employed throughout. This piece was distinctly different from all the floral decorations that had come before.

“It feels strange somehow. Yes, it is a curious combination of the artificial and the natural.” (Clarissa)

“I agree. It is so vibrant that one never grows tired of looking at it.” (Audrey)

What Wood had crafted was a floral decoration resembling avant-garde art. Among the four works on display, his contained the greatest number of artificial elements. It was a peculiar sensation. The bats were plant-based, yet they did not exist in the natural world. The rainbow-colored cotton further amplified that sense of wonder.

“That’s right, piyo! It’s such a fun flower decoration, piyo!” (Dia)

“Master worked very hard on it as well.” (Marcosias)

“Thank you, piyo!” (Dia)

Rubbing affectionately against Marcosias’s damp head, Dia embraced him warmly.

“What do you think, Sistalia-san?” (Clarissa)

At Clarissa’s inquiry, Sistalia replied in a tone steeped with deep reflection.

“It is beyond my full comprehension. Floral decorations are not uncommon, but I have never before encountered one of such complexity. I would say it breaks from convention and ought to be regarded as a new form of art.” (Sistalia)

“You think so as well, Sistalia?” (Audrey)

“Yes, it is a mysterious work. The creator possesses a highly refined intellect.” (Sistalia)

Systalia had met Wood in person. As she spoke, she recalled the great tree-man’s form in her mind.

Since entering the service of the Nagash Household, she had seen a vast array of flowers and gardens and considered herself to have encountered most of what the world had to offer.

“This piece is without precedent, yet the way the flowers and branches are arranged still follows certain principles. It is a fascinating work to behold.” (Sistalia)

“You truly like it, Sistalia. I have never heard you speak so passionately before.” (Audrey)

Audrey smiled softly.

Though Sistalia was usually calm and reserved, when it came to art, she could not help but express herself freely, especially when the work before her resonated deeply with her heart.

“I am quite embarrassed, to be honest.” (Sistalia)

“There is no need to be. I also think this piece is wonderful.” (Audrey)

Stella watched the two of them with a bright expression. Most of what she had intended to explain seemed to have been conveyed already.

The bats did not appear to be perceived as particularly strange either. Indeed, bats were magnificent. Stella was beginning to believe that wholeheartedly. All that remained was to elevate the status of the uniforms and the balls.

Turning to Nana beside her, Stella spoke happily.

“It is good to see that everyone is so pleased.” (Stella)

“The artistic quality is high. I never realized the Dryads possessed such talent.” (Nana)

“They are people of unfathomable depth.” (Stella)

Stella nodded earnestly.

After finishing their examination of the floral decorations, Audrey and her companions moved on to the next exhibit. It was a space where the uniforms used in Noball were displayed. The exhibit featured a charming illustration of a cockatrice holding a heelberry, along with the embroidered words “Village Cocatonia”. The uniform was neatly dressed upon a wooden mannequin.

“These are garments for playing Noball. They are comfortably loose and stretch well. They are of excellent quality.” (Stella)

“Piyo! Touch it, piyo!” (Dia)

Encouraged by Dia, who had raised her wings energetically, Audrey reached out and gently touched the uniform.

“This is the same as the one Otou-sama brought home. Can such quality truly be achieved in mass production?” (Audrey)

“We have the necessary materials, so that is a challenge for the future. What do you think? Ease of movement is surely an advantage.” (Stella)

At Stella’s words, Audrey nodded.

“Yes. I do love beautiful clothing, but such garments are often difficult to wear and move in.” (Audrey)

“I believe this would also serve excellently as indoor wear.” (Stella)

However, Audrey seemed to harbor some reservation.

“It is a wonderful design, but it may take some time before it becomes widely accepted.” (Audrey)

“It cannot be helped. Clothing is closely tied to noble culture.” (Marcosias)

“Piyo. Maybe it just needs a good opportunity, piyo?” (Dia)

“Wafuu. That is exactly right. Awareness must also change.” (Marcosias)

“Still, there is nothing wrong with clothing like this. I am wearing one myself at the moment.” (Nana)

“It cannot be seen under your robe, though.” (Stella)

Stella had resolved to wear a uniform herself on the day of the Art Festival, leading by example to promote its spread.

And then, at last, they arrived at the final exhibit.

It was “Cockatonia House”.

A dollhouse modeled after the Healberry Village.

“Gulp…” (Audrey)

Though Audrey had known of its existence, this was her first time seeing the completed version. Leia had been making adjustments to it until the very last moment. Audrey held her breath, preparing to take in that section of the display with her own eyes.
