Chapter 181

Immediately after I defeated the Jellyfish, my right eye began to ache, and it was shining with a golden light.

“…Both of my eyes have become magic eyes.” (Kouta)

“As expected of Master! At this point, Muze no longer knows what she should even be surprised about anymore!” (Muze)

That was a rather cruel way to put it.

Even though I am quite shaken by what has just happened. Still, it is not something that warrants sympathy or consolation. If anything, this might even be something to be congratulated for. After all, I have technically acquired a new skill.

Yet there remains a part of me that cannot honestly rejoice.

“I wonder if this is called a dot-eye…” (Kouta)

“If you mean to say something, it should be odd-eye! A dot-eye would mean your eyes have turned into dots! Although, in this case, that might not be entirely wrong. Wait! Master, that was quite an advanced joke!” (Muze)

“It was not, Muze. I simply made a mistake. It was not a joke.” (Kouta)

I am not like Muze or Haruka-kun, who are constantly looking for opportunities to make jokes. I do not possess that kind of comedian’s spirit.

Since a while ago, along with the pain in my right eye, a headache has also continued to throb. Images and information on how to use magic are flowing into my head. The magic that the Jellyfish used earlier is now within me.

After a while, when the influx of information ended, both the pain in my right eye and the headache melted away as if they had never existed.

It seems that the phenomenon itself was the cause of the pain. Not only the Jellyfish, but even the magic used by the Goblin King flowed into me. I assume the excessive amount of information was the cause of that intense pain.

Still, it hurt terribly. The skill I have newly acquired appears to belong to the type generally called Blue Magic, or the enemy’s techniques.

When I stood up, Muze immediately called out to me.

“Are you alright, Kouta?” (Muze)

“Yes, it no longer hurts. I am fine. Sorry to have worried you, Muze.” (Kouta)

“You were in pain!?” (Muze)

“Y-yes.” (Kouta)

Muze suddenly raised her voice, startling me slightly.

Leaning forward from above my head, she peered anxiously into my face.

“If you are in pain, you must say so properly! You must not endure it! It makes me worry! Are you truly all right now? Does it not hurt anymore?” (Muze)

Seeing Muze speak so desperately, nearly in tears, I could not help but feel moved and smile.

“Are you listening? This is not the time to be smiling!” (Muze)

Ah, now she is angry.

I held Muze closer to my chest and began to gently stroke her head.

Muze truly is a good child.

“I am sorry for worrying you, Muze. Thank you.” (Kouta)

“Muu~. As long as you understand, that is fine! Now keep patting me more!” (Muze)

In response to Muze’s demand, I continued to stroke her softly.

“Even so, for it to drop on the very first one, today Master’s luck is off the charts!” (Muze)

I had almost forgotten in all the commotion. I came here to defeat the Jellyfish in hopes of obtaining the Full Moon Veil.

Prompted by Muze’s words, I hurriedly looked around and recovered the dropped item. It was truly fortunate that I noticed before it was absorbed by the dungeon or stolen by goblins.

“Since you have acquired a skill, that means there is a high chance you have leveled up! Are you going to test your new skill right away?” (Muze)

“Well, I already have a general idea of what the skill does. The acquisition condition seems rather easy too. It appears to be fulfilled simply by seeing the skill in action.” (Kouta)

“Acquisition condition? Master, that explanation is insufficient.” (Muze)

“Ah, that is true. Actually…” (Kouta)

At Muze’s prompting, I explained that this was a skill which allowed me to acquire magic and other abilities from monsters.

“Truly, Master… Muze no longer knows how she should even be surprised anymore.” (Muze)

How strange. I think it would be enough if she just reacted normally.

“Can this skill also learn martial techniques?” (Muze)

“I wonder about that. Since I do not know what kinds of techniques are possible to acquire, I cannot say anything for certain yet.” (Kouta)

“Muu~.” (Muze)

“Ah, but I could not acquire the ‘Defier’ skill from the Goblin King.” (Kouta)

“That was a weapon-bound technique, so it does not necessarily prove that martial techniques cannot be learned.” (Muze)

That is true. Her reasoning makes perfect sense.

“Then, shall we go and ‘smash’ another Goblin King to confirm it?” (Muze)

“‘Smash’… Muze, you are not some delinquent. Please refrain from using such language.” (Kouta)

“Understood! I will refrain from using it!” (Muze)

It must have been Hosoi-san or Konno-san who taught her such phrasing. I should warn them about it next time I see them.

However, Muze’s suggestion itself was quite appealing, and I decided to accept it. It was human nature to want to test out newly acquired magic. Among them, the magic that caught my interest the most was “Familiar Summoning”. It was a spell I had learned from the Goblin King, and I was certain it would become one of my trump cards.
