Chapter 177

(POV switch – Mira)

Kouta apologized for not having any items available to equip the rear guard members.

The Robe of the Full Moon went to Emilia, the Rasha Shirts, Goblin King’s Sword, and Mantle of Perseverance went to Sofia, and the remaining Rasha Shirt was handed to Haruka. The appraisal item, incidentally, was entrusted to Adelaide.

“This must, without question, be entrusted to Adelaide! It can be pulled out dramatically from between her breasts! That alone will guarantee incredible numbers! We cannot afford to miss this chance!” (Muze)

Thus, Muze’s insistence and Kouta’s agreement that it would be safer to leave it with a rear guard member were both accepted.

Personally, I prefer it to be sold to Germany. However, since it is Kouta’s personal property, I respect his decision this time. It might not be the sort of discussion one should hold in a guild, but what is done cannot be undone. Just how much has Kouta earned in such a short time? Judging by the performance alone, it must be worth a considerable sum.

We spoke about the item information in low voices, and since it would appear in future footage anyway, converting that information into money quickly would certainly be the wisest course.

That day’s exploration, however, was extremely exhausting.

Emilia and Haruka were too fired up, recklessly charging forward toward the enemies. Sofia, on the other hand, became ecstatic after using the weapon skill “Indomitable One” from the Goblin King’s Sword as a solo buff.

We, the rear guard members, struggled simply to keep up. Even so, the party did not fall apart because Kouta maintained perfect balance from the center, giving precise instructions, shouting encouragements, and making constant corrections. It was during that time that I truly felt we were drawing closer to fulfilling Kouta’s words when he said we would “outrun them all”.

The following day, we attended the party in full equipment.

Naturally, this was not meant as a display of power. Other than Sofia and me, no one owned formal wear, and the school uniforms we had were not exactly suitable for such occasions. After all, they were military uniforms, and even then, cheaper than our current equipment.

Although I did not intend to judge etiquette based on clothing costs, I believed that if one must attend in combat gear, the more expensive set would be the more appropriate choice. Adelaide’s equipment alone, with the addition of the appraisal item, now exceeded ten billion yen in value.

That day, I was granted a private audience with Muze.

“Mira, what is it that you wish to discuss?” (Muze)

“Do not be so impatient.” (Mira)

“Muu, Muze feels uneasy when riding on anyone other than Kouta or Adelaide.” (Muze)

“Then, shall I drop you off somewhere?” (Mira)

“That would be best. As soon as I get off, I will immediately go to my Master!” (Muze)

For a moment, I almost collapsed onto the embassy lawn at her words. Somehow, I managed to hold myself upright, steadying both my body and my emotions before continuing the conversation.

“Well, there is no point in probing each other’s intentions. Muze, if enemy agents are a nuisance, I can dispatch one of our own to assist you.” (Mira)

“Thanks to Sofia, for now we are managing to handle the situation.” (Muze)

Ah, she must be referring to those suspicious individuals captured on Sofia’s footage. I am in no position to criticize others, but Muze is clearly getting more deeply involved than I expect.

“There is a real possibility that someone will attempt to infiltrate your residence soon. You should make preparations.” (Mira)

“There already have been several such attempts. They have all been dealt with.” (Muze)

So, it is indeed Muze who is dealing with the enemy agents. Retaliation is one approach, but taking preventive measures to ensure they never strike again is far more prudent.

“I suspect there might be listening or surveillance devices planted in that apartment. Have you checked?” (Mira)

“Ah, as expected, Muze’s knowledge does not extend to mechanical devices.” (Muze)

“It may not be something to boast about, but my home has been targeted for such things countless times. Thanks to that, I am far more conscious of such dangers than most people.” (Mira)

“Ugh, that sounds like a most unpleasant environment.” (Muze)

Indeed, it is. Anyone who could find joy in that situation would not be someone I could ever befriend.

“Just think of it as assigning bodyguards or security personnel. It is simply a measure to secure the safety of your base.” (Mira)

“Muu, that level of involvement might be beyond Muze’s authority. Kouta is very sensitive to presences. He usually detects spies before I do. He is quite adept at using his Magic Eye to its fullest.” (Muze)

That is unexpected. I had assumed Muze was acting alone, but to think that Kouta himself is her accomplice. No wonder agents from other nations had failed to outsmart them. They must have thought they were the ones doing the watching, when in truth, they were being watched themselves.

“To tell you the truth, the neighbor in our apartment is a British agent.” (Muze)

I almost let out an unseemly sound in surprise.

“Thanks to that, agents from other nations keep trying to make contact. It has become a spy magnet! All we have to do is keep watch there, and everyone’s face gets exposed eventually!” (Muze)

Information sharing certainly has its advantages and disadvantages. If exposure spreads through one connection, the whole web unravels. Still, it is impressive that their apartment remains untouched despite so many agents disappearing recently. Naturally, other countries are eager to approach.

“We have also been keeping an eye on several individuals who are being cautious in their attempts to approach or contact Master.” (Muze)

Is that unnecessary meddling on her part? Perhaps they will be fine even without interference. Still, it is safer to implement some form of countermeasure just in case.

“Muze, are you opposed to assigning guards or security?” (Mira)

“Not at all. If a little inconvenience can free us from constant irritation, Muze is happy to accept it. But what if we simply move closer to Adelaide’s house?” (Muze)

“Move? Setting aside the budget, that neighborhood is filled with German soldiers’ families.” (Mira)

“Would that not make for perfect security?” (Muze)

That is certainly a viable strategy. Perhaps relocating them inside the so-called “Toyota Town” prepared by the Japanese government would be best. The district is a walled-off luxury residential area guarded by military personnel instead of ordinary security staff, making it relatively safe.

Though I cannot say it will be entirely secure given our circumstances, it will at least serve as a deterrent.

“Toyota Town, then?” (Mira)

“Muze thinks that area is ultimately the safest.” (Muze)

I would bring it up with Kouta and Otou-sama when the opportunity arose.

“Muze.” (Mira)

“Muu? What is it?” (Muze)

“What exactly are those two talking about right now?” (Mira)

“Mira, if you ask that, your head will start to ache again. They are discussing materials that would make you dizzy.” (Muze)

Even after everything that happened yesterday, is Kouta still pursuing that? Yes, he is probably speaking with Otou-sama right now while I keep Muze occupied.

Honestly, I hope this will be the last of it.
