Magical Trolley Project

“Nyan… I see now, nyan.” (Brown)
Since Brown was up above, I decided to have everyone gather here. Brown was now descending into the underground plaza.
Hattori had climbed up and brought Brown back down. As expected of a ninja.
“It is nothing for one such as I, degozaru.” (Hattori)
He could hop from one narrow foothold to another with little effort.
“Leave the ladder construction to me. We must first make a proper entrance and exit.” (Adventurer)
“Ah, I will rely on you.” (Elt)
The adventurer in his thirties began crafting the ladder using the timber I had produced.
“To think this would happen on our way back from Zanzas. What a remarkable coincidence.” (Elt)
“Nyan. It is a road we always travel, nyan. But to think there was another underground plaza is astonishing, nyan.” (Brown)
Brown gazed down from the slope toward the underground plaza.
“Ugo ugo, it looks just the same.” (Wood)
“Indeed, nyan. Even the scent is the same, nyan.” (Brown)
Brown’s tail swayed gently as she spoke dreamily.
“For now, we have cleared away the Puzzle Mushrooms, and the area is secure.” (Elt)
“Piyo piyo…” (Cockatrice)
“Piyo piyo piyo…” (Cockatrice)
The Cockatrice was holding a torn piece of Puzzle Mushroom in its beak and chewing it. It looked like a person savoring dried squid, chewing endlessly without pause.
“This place is within Elt-sama’s territory, nyan. You may use it however you please, nyan.” (Brown)
“I thought as much. The question now is what to do with it.” (Elt)
Along the highway, the Large Tree Houses I had constructed were already scattered here and there, serving as rest stops. The underground plaza near the village had been repurposed like a small cottage.
“Mogu! In that case, how about a magical trolley, mogu!?” (Iskamina)
“A magical trolley?” (Elt)
Iskamina trotted toward us.
“It is a magical tool commonly used by dwarves and the Mole Tribe for underground travel, mogu. The conditions here are perfect for it, mogu!” (Iskamina)
A magical trolley… yes, that had appeared in games as a transportation gimmick. It was exhilarating to race through tunnels at high speed. Crashing during an event was practically a tradition, though.
I recalled reading about it in a book in this world as well, but I was not sure how widespread the technology was. At least, I had never seen one in Zanzas.
“Do dwarves and the Mole Tribe use them frequently?” (Elt)
“Mogu! It becomes inefficient without a sufficient amount of mana, mogu. But here, both the condition of the ground and the mana density are ideal, mogu!” (Iskamina)
“Ugo, it will not work without mana?” (Wood)
“If there is no mana, horses are still more practical, mogu.” (Iskamina)
I see. The concentration of mana in this underground area is indeed high, and that is the crucial condition. In that case, only certain regions could make use of such technology. Still, is this not quite a significant development? It would mean establishing a transportation route from the village to Zanzas.
“Is the magical trolley used in Zanzas?” (Elt)
“No, I have never even heard it mentioned. Places with high mana concentration usually have monsters around, you see.” (Adventurer)
“That is true.” (Elt)
Even this area, where the mana density was only moderately high, had Puzzle Mushrooms. Eliminating monsters naturally required both time and money. Still, dwarves and the Mole Tribe probably used their trolleys for mining operations. The profits from mining must have made the magical trolley system worthwhile.
“Can you make one of those magical trolleys, Iskamina?” (Elt)
“It costs money, but yes, I can, mogu! I am a first-class magical trolley manufacturer and mechanic, mogu!” (Iskamina)
“Amazing, nyan! So, the trolley might actually run here, nyan!?” (Brown)
Brown’s eyes sparkled as he looked around the underground plaza. The scale of the discussion had suddenly grown much larger, but it was an idea worth pursuing.
Down here, we would be free from wind or rain. The road would never turn to mud.
“Good. We will work out the details later.” (Elt)
I would have to consult with Naru and calculate the economic impact. From the sound of it, the proposal seemed promising.
“After lunch, I plan to explore a bit further. Will that be all right?” (Elt)
“Yes, no problem here!” (Adventurer)
“We must gauge how many Puzzle Mushrooms remain, after all, degozaru.” (Hattori)
The barrier we had made was only a temporary measure. If we were to proceed with the magical trolley project, we needed to fully grasp the extent of the underground network. Constructing it only to discover an infestation of Puzzle Mushrooms afterward would be unacceptable.
“Ugo ugo, I am ready to go too!” (Wood)
“Piyo!” (Cockatrice)
“Piyoyo!” (Cockatrice)
And of course, I also wanted to find more of the Crimson Berry Mushrooms.
