Setting Materials (Map)

(Thank you for reading at bayabuscotranslation.com)

Today’s update consists of the setting materials and the first two episodes of Chapter Two.

This is a general map of the Dariander region. The black lines indicate the coastline, and the brown lines represent the mountain ranges. Please use it as a reference to grasp the approximate positional relationships among the territories that have appeared so far.

The Dariander region is located in the northwestern part of the continent, surrounded by mountains to the east and south, and by the sea to the west and north. It spans roughly seven hundred kilometers from east to west and about five hundred kilometers from north to south. The region is dotted with small mountain ranges and rolling hills, and the proportion of forested land is remarkably high.

There are only a few limited corridors that allow passage beyond the eastern mountains, and for the most part, the other side of the range remains isolated. As for the western and northern coasts, including the neighboring regions, shipbuilding and navigation techniques are still underdeveloped. At present, only small-scale trade is conducted there, and on rare occasions, acts of piracy and plunder occur.

The empire that once ruled the western half of the continent, including the Dariander region, collapsed long ago. After a dark age of wars and plagues, the world of the story has become one where countless large and small territories stand side by side. There are some powerful lords who hold great influence over certain regions, but there is not yet any sovereign who can be called a king ruling over a vast domain.

No one knows the exact population, but it is generally said to be around one million, which is not far from the truth. The southernmost area, where the mountain range ends and borders another country, holds the densest population, estimated at about two hundred thousand.
Other concentrated population areas can be found along the mountain regions where large mines exist, along the coastal zones where good harbors are located, in inland plains cultivated as granaries, and at points where major highways intersect. Outside of these areas, most of the land is sparsely populated, with small villages scattered throughout.

This is a general map of the surrounding areas of the Valentine territory.

The dots indicate the location of each territory’s main village, though some territories control multiple villages surrounding the central one. The distance between the main villages of each territory is approximately 15 kilometers, a distance that can comfortably be traveled round trip within a single day. This spacing is generally maintained between territories in most regions, although there are many exceptions where the distances are either shorter or greater.

The gray line represents the road connecting Yutilainen territory’s Eltpoli with the capital of the great territory to the west. (In reality, the path twists and curves much more intricately.)

North of the hills lie villages with populations in the hundreds, and along the road, there are inns and similar facilities. The route passing through this area has developed enough to be considered a highway, and as a result, it is the preferred route for merchants and travelers. In contrast, few people travel through the southern side of the hills, where the Valentine territory is located.

Please note that the maps and detailed settings are provisional and may be subject to future revision.
