Wish

I see… So, Wood has indeed chosen that path. There is a feeling of both joy and loneliness within me. To work hard for the one you love, to be able to work hard because of that love. Wood surely does not wish to compromise. Turning such thoughts over in my mind, I spoke to the adventurer in his thirties.

“…Would there be any danger within that underground passage?” (Elt)

“Does poison work on Wood?” (Adventurer)

“No, biological toxins such as those from the Puzzle Mushroom should have no effect.” (Elt)

This stems from my knowledge of the game, but poisons of biological origin have no effect whatsoever upon Wood. After all, he is a Tree-man. As he is now, Wood possesses a resistance to abnormal conditions comparable to that of a dragon. In that sense, Wood should be perfectly suited for the role of a tank.

The adventurer in his thirties began counting on his fingers.

“Other than poison, there is the shock from the Puzzle Mushroom’s explosion, though it is not that powerful. Perhaps only physical charges, I suppose.” (Adventurer)

“Both of those seem less dangerous than the Flower Archer.” (Elt)

“If faced alone, I would say you are entirely correct.” (Adventurer)

It seems that the knowledge concerning such matters does not differ between the game and this world. In the game as well, the Puzzle Mushroom was an enemy focused more upon its gimmicks than its raw strength. It was not frightening so long as one made the appropriate moves. Well, with a few items to prevent abnormal status conditions, it would become complete fodder.

However, such items are truly scarce in this world. Healing is far more costly.

“Do we have sufficient stock of potions suitable for the third floor?” (Elt)

“Yes…! We have gathered potions of every type for poison healing!” (Anaria)

Anaria declared this with remarkable vigor.

It seems that she rather wishes for Wood to go adventuring, or perhaps, she sees something of herself in him. Not that I particularly mind, of course.

“Ugogo, in that case…!” (Wood)

I turned my gaze toward the adventurer in his thirties. His skill as an adventurer was something I placed my full trust in. He was someone to whom I could safely entrust this matter.

“If he will not become a burden, could you take Wood with you into the underground passage?” (Elt)

“Of course, that will be fine. I am well aware of Wood’s strength, after all.” (Adventurer)

The adventurer grinned broadly. It was a smile that carried the composure of a veteran and inspired genuine reassurance.

“Ugogo, I’ll be in your care!” (Wood)

“Since the Flower Archer, isn’t it? The pleasure is mine!” (Adventurer)

The two of them high-fived with a cheerful “Yeah!”

Good. In any case, the investigation of the underground passage must be carried out. I shall have Wood take charge of that. It will surely lead to both his growth and the fulfillment of his desire. Do your best, Wood.

The Grand Cathedral. Stella’s guest room.

After the standing buffet party concluded, Stella and her companions were lazing about in the guest room. It was a chamber filled with a chic atmosphere, with black-lacquered furniture and walls contributing to its air of refined darkness.

“I am so full, piyo.” (Dia)

“I have eaten my fill.” (Marcosias)

Upon the bed, Dia lay upon her stomach, kneading the soft paw pads of Marcosias.

“The fish was delicious, piyo.” (Dia)

“There were so many varieties and seasonings.” (Marcosias)

“Yes, it truly did feel as though it were a banquet befitting a great noble house.” (Stella)

Having changed into her nightclothes, Stella climbed into bed.

“Phew, today has been full of happenings. You both must be tired.” (Stella)

She gently patted the heads of Dia and Marcosias with a light pom-pom.

“Piyo. You too, Kaa-sama, must be tired, piyo.” (Dia)

“You have worked hard as well.” (Marcosias)

Dia and Marcosias rubbed their heads affectionately against Stella’s arm.

“Fufu, thank you. Now then, shall we go to sleep soon?” (Stella)

“Starting tomorrow, we will begin full preparations.” (Marcosias)

“I am looking forward to it, piyo.” (Dia)

Hurriedly, Stella slipped beneath the covers. She held Dia with her right arm and Marcosias with her left, embracing them both.

“Well then, good night.” (Stella)

“Piyo. Good night, piyo.” (Dia)

“Good night.” (Marcosias)

Before long, Dia’s soft breathing could be heard.

Suuyaaa, piyo, suuyaa, piyo.

“She must have been quite tired.” (Stella)

Usually, Stella herself was the type to fall asleep quickly once in bed. But tonight, Dia had drifted off first.

“Woof. Mother, you are tired as well, that you are?” (Marcosias)

“Physically, not particularly. Mentally, however, the Cockatrice costume has left me somewhat exhilarated.” (Stella)

“I see.” (Marcosias)

“At night, when I lie down like this, it feels a little lonely without Elt-sama and Wood. During the day there is so much to do that I scarcely notice it, but still.” (Stella)

Stella murmured softly.

“You feel lonely?” (Marcosias)

“Yes. Especially the nape of Elt-sama’s neck.” (Stella)

“…” (Marcosias)

“Why are you silent, Maru-chan? Let us have an honest talk once in a while.” (Stella)

“You are being a little too honest all of a sudden?” (Marcosias)

“N-no, that is not true. You are the only one I can have such conversations with, Maru-chan.” (Stella)

Stella whispered in a small voice.

“…There is no helping it, that there is. What about Father’s neck?” (Marcosias)

“I mean that it is splendid, together with his collarbones.” (Stella)

“…” (Marcosias)

“So that is unacceptable as well?” (Stella)

“I love you dearly, Mother, but you need not be that honest.” (Marcosias)

“Eh, is it that bad? Is there not a certain reverence for the parts one cannot see oneself?” (Stella)

“There might be, but it is a little on the questionable side.” (Marcosias)

“I see.” (Stella)

Stella gently kneaded the underside of Marcosias’s chin.

“This has been an educational experience.” (Stella)

“I am glad.” (Marcosias)

“I shall cherish him quietly then.” (Stella)

“I understand.” (Marcosias)

With that, Stella exhaled softly. Drowsiness had come upon her.

“Good night, Maru-chan.” (Stella)

“Good night, Mother.” (Marcosias)

Marcosias murmured quietly.

“…You are a little bit of a fetishist, that you are.” (Marcosias)

“Eh? Did you say something?” (Stella)

Marcosias narrowed his eyes slightly and replied.

“It was nothing, that it was.” (Marcosias)
