Tap

“But… if it is Elt-sama’s plant magic, would it not also be possible to create berry mushrooms?” (Anaria)

Anaria tilted her head to the side.

Hmm, it seems that a supplementary explanation is required. In truth, I have not informed them in detail of what may be accomplished with my magic. This matter is indeed related to that explanation.

“It appears that the category of mushrooms lies outside the scope of plant magic.” (Elt)

“Now that you mention it, there are no mushrooms among the crops in the village.” (Anaria)

That mushrooms are excluded from the scope of plant magic is most likely because mushrooms, being fungi, are not plants. From the standpoint of classification, they are completely different entities. Therefore, mushrooms are not included within plant magic.

This would be an explanation that one could accept if one possessed knowledge from a previous life. However, in this world, mushrooms are still regarded as plants, so I cannot explain the matter in such a self-satisfied manner.

If I were to say such a thing, it would expose inconsistencies.

“The scope of magic is at times mysterious. In any case, berry mushrooms cannot be produced by plant magic. The dungeon of Zanzas becomes the nearest place from which they may be acquired.” (Elt)

Yet its difficulty is greater than I had imagined.

With neither Leia nor Stella present, crimson berry mushrooms cannot be easily obtained.

For a short while, I gazed at my own arm.

How troubling.

“What shall we do?” (Anaria)

“What does Wood think, I wonder?” (Elt)

Anaria revealed faint traces of unease.

“Do you intend to let him decide?” (Anaria)

“Of course, I cannot possibly leave the decision to him alone. Yet I wish to hear his hopes as well, and I want to do as much for him as I possibly can.” (Elt)

Most likely, if it were not family, I would not go to such lengths. Conversely, it is precisely because he is family that I wish to do everything within my power.

“Hmm. I see, I understand now.” (Anaria)

“In that case, I shall tell Elt-sama everything I know.” (Anaria)

Leaning forward intently, Anaria spoke.

“Concerning what kind of place the third floor is!” (Anaria)

Meanwhile, in the living room, the Cockatrices were leaning against Wood, who was seated on the floor. The making of grass dumplings had come to an end.

“Piyo.” (It is warm.) (Cockatrice)

“Pipiyo.” (It is calming.) (Cockatrice)

The Cockatrices pressed their soft, fluffy bodies against Wood. Wood received them with gentle acceptance.

“Ugo… it is indeed soft.” (Wood)

While they were doing this, one Cockatrice began tapping at the belly of the other.

*Tap tap tap.*

“Piyo.” (It is slimming down, is it not?) (Cockatrice)

“Piyoyo.” (Indeed, it is.) (Cockatrice)

“Piyo, piyo.” (It must have been difficult until you reached three tap?) (Cockatrice)

“Piyopiyo!” (Once I exercised, it was over in no time!) (Cockatrice)

“Piyopipii.” (How nice, I am still at four tap, you know.) (Cockatrice)

“Piyo?” (Truly?) (Cockatrice)

The Cockatrice that had been tapped began to tap back against the other’s belly.

*Tap tap tap tap.*

That was four tap.

“Piyopip, piyo!” (It is all right. It is a four tap that is almost indistinguishable from three tap!) (Cockatrice)

“Piyopi?” (Almost three tap?) (Cockatrice)

“Piyoopi!” (Essentially three tap!) (Cockatrice)

“Piyopiyopiyo!” (Then that is fine, let us proceed without haste! Ahahahaha!) (Cockatrice)

“Piyopiyo!” (Ahahaha!) (Cockatrice)

The Cockatrices were at peace.

While they continued their “piyo piyo”, Elt and the others descended from the upper floor. Upon seeing Elt’s face, Wood instantly perceived it. It seemed they had been discussing some difficult matter.

“May I have a word, Wood.” (Elt)

In the northern grand cathedral, a magnificent standing banquet was being held in the great hall on the third floor. The hall, adorned with crystal and silver, shone with a beauty that resembled the brilliance of the moon. Within this splendor, Stella had also changed into a black dress.

“To have such a banquet held in my honor… I am humbled.” (Stella)

“No, at the very least allow us this much. It is thanks to you that the Ice Crystal was swiftly subdued.” (Hold)

Hold raised his glass while expressing his gratitude.

“I wondered what might become of us, but we were truly saved. We must give our thanks to Elt as well.” (Hold)

Hold too wore a face of relief. In truth, due to the Ice Crystal, they had nearly suffered great losses. Thanks to Stella and the others, it had been resolved swiftly.

“To hear you say that makes my coming here worthwhile!” (Stella)

And Dia, carried by Audrey, was beside Stella.

“Piyo. There are so many people here, are there not?” (Dia)

“Yes, for people have come from many different places.” (Audrey)

Audrey gently stroked Dia with contentment. Dia was delighted to meet friends.

“Piyo~” (Dia)

Marcosias was being carried by Clarissa.

“There are so many wearing costumes, are there not?” (Marcosias)

“The formal attire of vampires is costumes, after all.” (Clarissa)

“Indeed, is that so?” (Marcosias)

“To avoid the sunlight, they wear them at all times.” (Clarissa)

Of course, at nocturnal gatherings among vampires alone, that was not the case.

“Today, please take your time and relax. Preparation for the festival of the arts may begin tomorrow.” (Hold)

“Your thoughtfulness is most appreciated.” (Stella)

“Piyo. This fish is delicious, piyo!” (Dia)

Dia munched happily upon salmon covered in tomato sauce.

“This rock salt tomato is also delicious!” (Audrey)

Audrey smoothly recommended the next dish.

“Piyo. It is different from ordinary salt, is it not?” (Dia)

“It seems it is somewhat different indeed!” (Audrey)

“It is different, piyo! It is delightful, is it not!” (Dia)

Dia and Audrey were cheerful. Stella watched them with a gentle smile.

“Come to think of it, Ignat-dono, Leia, and Nana are nowhere to be seen.” (Stella)

“Ah, those three seem to have something to discuss. They shall join us later.” (Hold)

Hold averted his gaze smoothly. Stella was not unaware of this.

“It must be quite difficult for you.” (Stella)

“Indeed. I have never before seen Nana so attached to a single individual.” (Hold)

“The two are alike, after all.” (Stella)

As they conversed, costumed vampires and dwarven notables began to gather. At their head, a dwarven lady of noble appearance, holding a book, addressed Stella. Judging from her attire, she seemed to be of high aristocracy.

“E-excuse me, might I trouble you for a moment?” (Dwarven Lady)

“Y-yes… what is it?” (Stella)

When Stella responded, the dwarven lady swiftly held forth the book. Upon its cover was written the title Hero Stella and the Broken Sacred Sword. It was a play in which the sacred sword borrowed from the dwarf king was snapped in two while defeating a monster, yet still victory was achieved. It was one of the “Six Stella Plays”, a drama of world renown.

Though to Stella, it was something of a dark memory.

“This is…” (Stella)

As Stella grew startled, the dwarven lady leaned forward with great enthusiasm.

“I am an ardent admirer of this play! Might I have your autograph?” (Dwarven Lady)

“T-that is…” (Stella)

“In fact, the king whose sacred sword was broken belongs to my ancestry! There is no other commemoration like this!” (Dwarven Lady)

“…” (Stella)

An unexpected request from a descendant. Naturally, such a proposal could not be refused. Gazing at the script, Stella replied.

“Yes.” (Stella)

“It must be most difficult indeed.” (Hold)

Looking upon Stella, Hold murmured softly.
