Chapter 124

(Thank you for reading at bayabuscotranslation.com)

I lost consciousness and collapsed because of excessive tension. Since it was a sensation with which I had already become well acquainted, I myself merely thought, “Ah, once again”, and let it pass.

Yet through this incident I came to understand that simply telling everyone about my skills caused me so much stress. Compared with Haruka-kun, who showed such courage, I felt utterly pathetic for being unable to summon that same resolve. Moreover, what flashed through my mind was not only my own situation, but also the burden of carrying everyone’s lives upon my shoulders. It was not that one or the other alone was the cause; rather, it was certainly both.

Lying down and gazing upward at everyone flustered around me, I accepted the water and tablet that Muze insistently pressed upon me, waiting for my body to calm. When Mira tried to call for an ambulance, I somehow managed to stop her, explaining that I was used to such episodes. Though Emilia kindly offered her lap for me to rest upon, I regretted that the nerves in my head were too dulled to fully appreciate the sensation. Unless it were a part of me with sharper sensory nerves, it seemed impossible.

As usual, my body remained an enigma. Yet as I gazed at Emilia, a sense of calmness welled within me. One part of me stirred with reckless impulses, but I suppressed it with the full force of reason.

“Has Mira calmed down?” (Kouta)

“No… wait a moment. The very fact that the one who collapsed is the calmest here… what an unreasonable world this is.” (Mira)

While gently stroking Muze, who wriggled between my arms, I continued the conversation.

“Mira, regarding the matter of the livestream, do you think we have a chance of being selected?” (Kouta)

“Yes, I have already made arrangements. Well, since we gained achievements during the terror incident, even had I not intervened, we would likely have received backing from either Germany or Japan.” (Mira)

“Since it is also a mixed team of both nations, we would most likely have been chosen even without effort.” (Sofia)

“Would that be something like an image strategy, Sofia-san?” (Kouta)

“Perhaps it is closer to diplomatic appeal.” (Sofia)

Haruka-kun posed the question, and after thinking briefly, Sofia gave that answer. From her words, it seemed she meant that both nations wished to broadcast to the world the message, “Look, we are cooperating amicably.”

That such political considerations would intertwine even with something as trivial as a dungeon livestream… the world truly was troublesome.

“…Could it be that Kouta intends to challenge the ‘Goblin Settlement’ during the livestream?” (Mira)

As expected of Mira. Though for me, the timing mattered little, I thought that since Mira had been working so diligently on arranging the stream, we needed at least this level of surprise. After all, even as I am, I remain the leader.

“Yes. Considering the impact, I was thinking of attempting it on the very first day. What do you think?” (Kouta)

Still reclining upon Emilia’s lap, I put forth the proposal.

In order to calm my heart, I inhaled deeply and then, peered into Emilia’s face. The fragrance that tickled my nose, however, had the opposite effect of unsettling me slightly, yet I forced my reason to its fullest and settled my mind.

“I shall bolster everyone with support magic. If it is us, I believe we can do it.” (Kouta)

Since no one responded, all I could do was hurriedly string together further words. Still, what emerged was a single sentence.

Already I had confirmed the effect of my magic against a goblin horde. The only ones who knew of the result were Muze and me. Now, I revealed it to everyone. I told them it could be activated at will within a certain range.

As summer drew near, the room fell into complete silence, broken only by the impatient cries of cicadas outside.

“I see. Even if levels and skills are not broadcast during the stream, there remains the danger of exposure. Are you certain about this, Kouta?” (Mira)

“Yes, I do not mind. With this group, I am confident we can succeed. We shall surge ahead before any strange individuals draw near.” (Kouta)

Though we had not yet reached the safe zone in terms of level, the groups who sought to kidnap useful skill holders surely rose in strength each year as well. Yet level ten was undeniably safe. I had intended to remain silent until that point, but I could no longer endure it.

Haruka-kun had shown courage. Adelaide-senpai had exposed her skills without hesitation. They both shone too brightly for me to bear.
