Hidden Blood

The following morning.

Though the air was chilly, it was a refreshing morning indeed.

“Piyoyo~… good morning, piyo.” (Dia)

“Good morning, that it is.” (Marcosias)

“Fweh…” (Stella)

Stella’s switch did not turn on immediately. However, Nana, being nocturnal, was much the same. Although Stella’s group and Nana had separate beds, Nana lay prone while still wearing her costume.

Glancing at the bed where Nana slept, Dia remarked.

“…Thick, piyo?” (Dia)

“Perhaps she dislikes the cold.” (Marcosias)

“Nnya… it is simply that I feel settled this way, so I sleep like this.” (Nana)

Nana rolled over onto her side.

“And besides, the light does not get in this way. As for Stella…” (Nana)

“Kaa-sama still needs a little more time, piyo.” (Dia)

From afar came the occasional sound of snow thudding down. Such a sound had not existed in Healberry Village.

“Well, the time is not yet pressing. I shall go take a shower first.” (Nana)

“Roger that, it is.” (Marcosias)

After about twenty minutes, Stella finally awoke in earnest. Having made themselves ready, Stella and her companions proceeded to the entrance of Stephen’s village. There, the villagers had gathered to see them off. In their hands they each held bats that fit them perfectly. Stella thought simply that she was glad she had asked Elt to make so many bats.

“Is it truly all right for us to receive such fine bats…?” (Villager)

“Of course, by all means.” (Stella)

With a bright smile, Stella added further,

“There are fewer balls and gloves compared to bats, but I believe those can be made by hand.” (Stella)

“With this much, the hunters of the village can make them. It is the bats that are difficult.” (Village Chief)

The man who appeared to be the village chief nodded thoughtfully.

It had been the same in Healberry Village. Only the bats made by Elt’s magic were of extraordinary quality, and producing similar ones was difficult. Neither the gloves nor the balls could rival those of modern Earth’s standard, but the bats were different. Thus, it was harsh for others to reproduce them. At the very least, only skilled craftsmen could manage it.

“In any case, thank you very much.” (Village Chief)

The villagers bowed deeply. Stella waved in return.

“Not at all, please do not concern yourselves.” (Stella)

“This too is the guidance of Stephen-sama, who struck down the monsters and departed swiftly. May blessings be upon you as well.” (Villager)

“…Ha-hii.” (Stella)

Cold sweat ran down Stella’s back. Indeed, she could not say it. That the one who struck down the monsters was none other than her former self. If she remained too long, her disguise might unravel. Moreover, the time of departure was drawing near.

“Then, farewell!” (Stella)

“Goodbye, piyo~!” (Dia)

“Until we meet again, that it is~!” (Marcosias)

“See you~.” (Nana)

Thus, Stella and her companions cut off the farewell and set forth, waved off by the villagers. Perhaps, from this village, a Noball player might one day be born.

With such thoughts, Stella continued to wave her hand.

Afterward, Stella’s group was comfortably gliding across the snowfields, using Nana in her costume as a sled.

*Zuzazaa*

Sliding forward on her stomach, the costumed Nana cut across the snow. Seated atop her, Dia looked utterly delighted.

“Piyo! Fast fast fast, piyo!” (Dia)

Yet soon after,

*Zuzazazaza!!*

The speed surpassed even that of the previous day. For Stella was now propelling them with her high-speed movement, without holding back.

“W-wait, is this not too fast, too fast?” (Nana)

“This is not fast yet, that it is.” (Marcosias)

“It is only a slight downhill slope, so the speed is increasing!” (Stella)

“Piyopiyopiyo! It feels so good, piyo!” (Dia)

Nestled in Stella’s arms, Dia was in high spirits. On the other hand, even for Nana, who was accustomed to snowboarding and skiing, this speed was rather thrilling.

“Fast fast fast fast fast!” (Nana)

“Do you mean, even faster?” (Stella)

Shifting her weight with great force, Stella steered them right and left, scattering snow as they went. Each time, the snow sparkled in the morning sun.

“Piyo~! The snow is sparkling, piyo!” (Dia)

“She is drifting, that she is.” (Marcosias)

For Marcosias, who was originally a master of high-speed movement, this degree of speed was nothing at all. In the form of a puppy, she merely felt the wind strongly upon his face.

“I too wish to move at such high speed!” (Marcosias)

“By such, do you mean like this?” (Stella)

Stella applied more strength, and Nana’s costumed body bounced upward. Nana cried out involuntarily.

“We flew…!?” (Nana)

“Ei!” (Stella)

Yet the leap was but a small one. Immediately, they returned bouncing upon the snow.

“Splendid splendid, piyo!” (Dia)

“It seems I performed some great maneuver.” (Nana)

“If I step in firmly, this much is possible. Oh!” (Stella)

Their field of vision opened, revealing a frozen great river.

“Piyo~! It is all frozen, piyo!?” (Dia)

“That it is. Here even the water is all ice.” (Marcosias)

“The thickness appears sufficient!” (Stella)

With her ears twitching, Stella’s superhuman senses clearly discerned the thickness of the frozen river.

“In that case, we may proceed as we are.” (Nana)

“Is it safe, Nana!?” (Stella)

“Will your belly not be scraped away, piyo?” (Dia)

“It is fine. I am not that fragile! In my homeland, I was the champion of winter sports!” (Nana)

It seemed that, as Nana continued to slide upon the snow, her spirits too grew strangely high. It was inevitable. Nana had originally studied high-speed movement as well, and in Healberry Village she had kept sealed away her blood as a speed addict, which now began to awaken. And Stella was not one to overlook such a blood. For to some degree or another, an adventurer was one who loved thrills. Adventurers of S-rank did not merely fear the unknown. They exalted in it.

Nana’s costume slid across the frozen river, ringing with a sharp sound. There was no problem, the ice was sufficiently thick.

“In that case, let us go forth at full speed!” (Stella)

“Piyo~!” (Dia)

“That it is~!” (Marcosias)

“Roger that!” (Nana)

And thus, as they were, Stella and her companions dashed toward the great cathedral.
