To a New World

(Thank you for reading at bayabuscotranslation.com)

Two years later.

Since then, with everyone’s cooperation, I continued to train my body and grew taller. I became five years old. Watched over by Erina, I studied magic with Noel and learned the basics of being an adventurer from Dee. I invented several kinds of magic not found in books, and I have generally been able to grow according to plan.

I also had mock battles with Dee. He was strong as a former adventurer, but because he fought in his own style, he had many openings, and I unintentionally won. I felt a little bad, but the sight of Dee feeling down and Noel comforting him was very fresh. Surprisingly, by the next day he had eliminated those openings, so Dee’s sense made the educator spirit in me tingle. He would get even stronger if he trained more, but he said he wanted to become a cook, so I think it is a pity. He was actually good at cooking, and when I taught him recipes from my previous life, he was very happy. I hoped he would definitely pursue his dream.

Preparations to attend school were also steadily progressing. I earned money by selling medicines mixed from herbs I gathered and by finding rare materials in the mountains. At this pace, there should be no problem saving the school entrance fee. Just three more years, taking it easy and steadily would be fine.

One day, I received full certification from Dee. He said, “There is nothing more for me to teach you. Rather, I am the one learning from you”. Although I was a five-year-old child, since I could walk around alone without problems, I ran around the fields and mountains also for training.

And today, to leap into a new world… I was running through the sky.

To explain the current situation, I must speak of two magics.

The first is called “Boost”. Its effect is to enhance physical ability by flowing magic power through the body to strengthen it. The more mana you put in, the faster you can move, and it is a magic that exceeds the human limit of breaking rocks with fists. Naturally, if you do such a thing, your body will not hold up, but that is protected by covering it with magic power. The talent of the user shows clearly, and because it consumes a lot of energy, few use it. It has no attribute, so it is classified as an attribute-less magic.

…Up to here is what was written in the book about “Boost.”

After experimenting and investigating, this simply covers the body with magic power. You can think of it as wearing a powered suit made of mana, but frankly, it is very inefficient. In my case, I have medical knowledge and understand human anatomy, so I eliminated that waste. Knowing which parts need focused protection based on blood flow, muscle contraction, and skeletal movement depending on the situation.

As a result, I succeeded in maintaining it for a long time. I gained the speed to reach a lake where water magic herbs grow in a few minutes, and the power to blow away goblins with my fist. I felt like I had stopped being human.

The other is my original magic, “Air Step”. As the name implies, it gathers mana to temporarily create a foothold in the air, but it quickly dissipates and disappears in less than two seconds. It may seem like a flawed magic, but one second is enough to use it as a foothold to fly, so it is not a problem. At first, I considered flying by receiving a shockwave of mana, but the speed adjustment was difficult, and my body hurt, so I gave up. I settled on this method, which allows acceleration and deceleration by footwork.

By using those two magics, I was running through the sky at car-like speed. The wind pressure hit me directly, but my body reinforcement from “Boost” let me endure it easily. The destination I was heading to by flying through the sky was the neighboring continent across the sea.

My home was on the continent “Melifest”, but since it was at the edge, if you crossed one mountain, the sea spread out. While practicing magic, when I had extended my feet to the sea, I had seen land beyond the horizon. When I returned and asked about it, I was told it was another continent called “Adlode”. It supposedly had its own culture but was mostly similar to Melifest.

The port in the capital city frequently carried out trade that took two days round trip. In other words, one day each way, but from there it had seemed I could arrive in about an hour by estimation. However, that sea area was rough, and if you put out a ship, it would sink in minutes in that dangerous sea. On top of that, the other continent was lined with cliffs, so it had seemed impossible to land. To cross, you had to ride the stable ship service in the city center of the sea area. But… that only applied if you used a ship. It did not concern me, who ran through the sky.

Then, driven by curiosity, I flew toward the new continent. After flying for several minutes without major problems, I safely arrived at the neighboring continent. I still had half my mana left, so I had been able to come casually. I stood on a cliff overlooking Melifest continent behind me, and before me, a vast forest spread. If my father heard about it, it would have been troublesome, and I wouldn’t have been able to go into town, but there had been no problem, so I had hoped for it… yet there had been no sign of people at all. There had been nothing I could do. After recovering my mana, I decided I would try searching from the sky. While being cautious of my surroundings, I closed my eyes, counted three seconds… recovery complete.

It might have looked like a joke, but if I synchronized with the surrounding mana, recovery happened in an instant. That had not been in any book and was a technique impossible for Noel. The reason was still unknown. I felt no physical discomfort, and since my policy was to use what I could use, I had left it alone, thinking the reason would eventually become clear.

And again, I ran through the sky. Without a particular destination, I flew along the treetops as the wind led me. I slowed down and felt a pleasant breeze while searching for a settlement, but there had been nothing resembling one.

How large is this forest? Anyone unfamiliar who enters would surely get lost.

After a while, I finally see a break in the forest, and nearby there is an especially tall big tree, so I decide to rest sitting on its branch. I take water from my backpack and take a sip. Maintaining minimum caution, I idly gaze at the scenery from the height.

(――――)

…What is this? Just now, I felt something strange. But it is not hostility. It feels like something mysterious is swirling around the surroundings. The wind getting stronger is also a concern, so I will investigate.

I directed my awareness roughly in one direction and activated the magic “Search”. It was something like a sonar. The principle of sonar was to throw a stone into the water surface and observe the reflection of the waves. In the case of magic, you sent out your own mana like a wave and sensed the target by its reflection. It was one of the exploration magics, but it emitted mana over a wide area, so it had the drawback of being noticeable to the target. However, in my case, since my mana was almost the same as the surrounding mana, Noel said that if they paid attention, they could only vaguely feel it. Detection was important. Even if called incompetent, this advantage was significant.
Reflected magic flux waves were depicted in my mind. That time, I performed the search with the image of sensing mana, but because it was a forest, there had been countless reactions from magic beasts and animals. Among them, there had been five… no, six human-shaped mana. I did not understand the cause of the sense of discomfort, but I had finally found people. I put away my water and dashed toward the place where the people were.

Now then, it was my first encounter with people other than my attendants, but it was a bad move to suddenly say hello. There was a possibility that the other party was a villain, and moreover, I was a five-year-old child. The possibility of trouble was very high.

First, it was better to observe the other party and show myself only if there was no problem with their personality. According to the search, there had been six people in total, but one person had been in a location away from the others, so I headed there. I thought an individual would be less wary than a group. If it ended up in a worst-case battle, I would do my best to run away somehow. I did not think they would chase me into the sky.

I landed a little away from the reaction point and quietly approached so as not to be noticed. A sneaking mission, reminded me of the old days. That time, strong wind rustled the trees, so the noise was covered and it was easy.

Finally, crawling forward, I managed to spot the target through the gaps in the trees. Since they were in such a place, I wondered what kind of person they were, but it was not a human, it was a people who lived with the forest, a race called Elf. Moreover, it was a woman with long pointed ears beside her, emerald green shining, long hair flowing down her back. Her sharp eyes with emerald-colored pupils, combined with a well-formed nose and mouth, were undoubtedly beautiful. Her balanced, feminine proportions were mysterious and full of charm, a very attractive woman I definitely wanted to get close to.

However, she was obviously not in a normal state. Her breathing was extremely rough, sweating heavily, clinging to a tree and desperately holding back from falling. The cloak she wore was tattered, and the clothes underneath were clearly visible. A light chest guard that seemed made of leather, a skirt of young grass green with slits showing the navel. The skirt hem reached the knees, probably focusing on ease of movement. The amount of exposed skin was also visually very good.
If I looked closely, there was a small wound on her right arm, and blood was flowing but there was no sign of treatment.

Hmm, it does not seem to be a deep wound, but was some poison administered?

“You know you’re there, come out!” (Elf)

While I was thinking, the Elf girl raised her voice and threatened. The target was not me, but the remaining five who were pushing through the trees without restraint. As she glared at them, something shining flew out from the depths of the trees, and she flicked it away with a knife from her bosom. The flying object fell near me, so I collected it without being noticed.

As expected, it was a knife with something applied to the blade. While examining it, the five people appeared in front of the Elf woman. They were all human men, looking exactly like thieves or bandits. From the fact they wore fine iron chest guards or sturdy leather armor with scratches, they seemed to have some skill.

The man who seemed to be the leader stepped forward. He wore an eyepatch over his left eye, but what they all had in common was a vulgar grin. I did not want to get close to such people. They definitely did not look like allies of the Elf woman, and this situation looked like a crime scene just before the act. I decided to watch a bit more.

“Oh, amazing. You block my knife even after taking that poison?” (Leader)

“Of course. It was like you were standing still.” (Elf)

“Heh, stop bluffing. You barely look like you’re standing.” (Bandit)

“Yeah, yeah. Your body is shaking too. If you’re cold, shall we warm you? Just kidding, haha!” (Bandit)

“No way, isn’t that kind of true? You ran away from us, but you came back waiting for us?” (Bandit)

“That’s right. Virgins sell for higher prices, but if you want, I’ll take you. How about it?” (Leader)

Hmm, what a wonderfully obvious evil. When delusions go that far, I have to admire them. I understand they are enemies, so I could rush in, but judging by the Elf woman’s face, she is about to do something.

“Say whatever you want. The reason I called you is…” (Elf)

The Elf woman closed her eyes and concentrated.

This was magic… no?

Without incantation, the strange feeling I felt earlier was emitted from the Elf woman.

“To blow you all away at once! Wind, sweep them away!” (Elf)

With that declaration, she waved her hand, and suddenly a violent wind rose around us. The wind was strong enough to lift my body even while crouching, so I sent out “String” to a nearby tree and fixed myself. I thought the men would be blown away too, but the wind quickly calmed, and only scattered leaves danced afterward. The unexpected result caused a pained expression on the Elf woman’s face.

“Ugh… my mana.” (Elf)

“D-Damn, you scared me. What’s going on with your head?” (Leader)

“Hey, that poison not only paralyzes the body but also hinders mana concentration. An ordinary person wouldn’t even be able to activate magic… you’re quite an Elf lady.” (Bandit)

“Is that so good quality? Looks like you’ll live comfortably for a while.” (Bandit)

“Yeah, crazy. Rare Elves like this don’t come around often.” (Bandit)

“You idiot! I’m the one for sure. You guys come after me!” (Leader)

“What? Already decided on that? Don’t overdo it or the value will drop.” (Bandit)

The men approached the Elf woman with ugly smiles, but she did not stay silent. With a resolute face, she pressed a knife to her own throat.

“If you come any closer, I will kill myself. I’d rather die than be done in by scum like you.” (Elf)

“Hey, hey, are you really going to die? I told you, right? Show your parents a healthy face.” (Leader)

“That is…” (Elf)

For some reason, the Elf woman was shaken and looked away. At that moment, the leader raised both hands.

“Damn!? Ugh!” (Leader)

“Hahaha! No matter how strong you are, if you show an opening, you’re done.” (Bandit)

Hoh, what they are doing is awful, but their skill is reliable.

The leader throw several knives at once taking advantage of the Elf woman’s momentary opening was evident. Still, the Elf woman was not losing. She recovered her stance, deflected two knives with her own, twisted her body to dodge four more, which stuck into a tree behind. However, one of the dodged knives grazed her side. The fact that she was hit that little while several were thrown simultaneously showed her skill. But those were not ordinary knives. Proof of that was that the Elf woman seemed unable to get up from where she had fallen.

“Does it work, right? It’s a bit slow-acting, but the effect is outstanding. The poison from earlier should have fully circulated, so they can’t move anymore.” (Leader)

“You… lowlife.” (Elf)

“Hey, what if she dies?” (Bandit)

“It’s okay. Because this is strong, it’s made so it won’t kill you. That’s why it’s expensive.” (Leader)

“Then, I better make sure to get my money’s worth.” (Bandit)

“That’s right. Want me to stab two or three more? It’ll be a hassle if they go wild.” (Bandit)

“That’s true. Hey, if you stay calm, I’ll make you feel good.” (Leader)

“Feeling so good you might go to heaven, haha!” (Bandit)

“Too bad, there is no such thing as heaven.” (Sirius)

“Who’s that? Gyaah!” (Leader)

A knife pierced the leader’s hand, and from between the trees, I jumped out in front of the Elf woman. Along the way, I applied some tricks and stood blocking the men.

“Hey, you! Who the hell are you… huh?” (Leader)

“…What? A brat, huh? Where did you come from?” (Bandit)

They were shaken by the sudden appearance, but as soon as they realized I was a child, they gave me a scornful look. I didn’t mind being underestimated, but if they ignored me and aimed for the Elf woman, that would be a problem. Maybe a little provocation is in order.

“Over there, maybe? Oh, by the way, I’m the one who threw that, you scumbags.” (Sirius)

“You little brat, how dare you do that!” (Bandit)

“Brat, you’re asking for it. I’ll kill you!” (Leader)

“D-Don’t! Run away, little boy!” (Elf)

I was already attacking them, so maybe I didn’t need to provoke. Looking back, the Elf woman was shouting at me desperately as she struggled to stand. Her eyes pleading showed she was genuinely worried about me. Honestly, she was a good person, knowing if she ran away, she would be the one taken down. I appreciated that feeling, but just wait a moment.

“Hey, Otou-san! Over here! There’s a bad guy, go get him!” (Sirius)

I waved my hand big and shouted toward the back of the men. Normally, no one would think a child comes alone into a forest like this. Most would assume a guardian is nearby. If a child shouted that their father was behind them, the men would naturally look back to guard against a surprise attack. And what do you know, right in front of me stood the men full of openings.

I instantly activated ‘Boost’ only in my arms. Then, with two quick hand waves.

““Gyaa!”” (Leader)

““Ugh!”” (Bandit)

“Ow!” (Bandit)

One knife pierced each of the men’s legs. Of course, these were the poisoned knives the leader had. The Elf woman deflected some, and others stuck in trees, which I secretly collected with ‘String’.

“What a lie. Oh? Why are you looking back? You were full of openings.” (Sirius)

“You damn brat.” (Leader)

“By the way, should you be paying attention to me? Those are all knives you had. Is the poison okay?” (Sirius)

“L-leader! Give me medicine! An antidote!” (Bandit)

“Shut up! I’m first–… ah!” (Leader)

The leader pulled out a leather pouch from his pocket, and I snagged it with ‘String’ and retrieved it. While they were stunned, I checked inside and found two glass-like containers. One was a poisonous color, and the other was labeled ‘antidote’. The antidote label was exactly that. But this supposed antidote clearly was only for one person.

“Hmph, you only have your own. You don’t care about your comrades.” (Sirius)

“W-What do you mean, Leader!” (Bandit)

“N-No! It’s just that there wasn’t enough.” (Leader)

“I see, so if you use this, you can keep the reward all to yourself, right? If you slip it into their drink, then afterward…” (Sirius)

“You bastard! Don’t tell me that’s your plan…” (Bandit)

“So, wait! It’s all that brat’s lies.” (Leader)

“Anyway, it’s weird that you’re the leader!” (Bandit)

Oh dear, I was going to provoke a little more, but they collapsed faster than expected. Grievances build up and explode at moments like this. They might be skilled, but they had no charisma.

Leaving the quarreling men, I approached the Elf woman.

“Are you okay?” (Sirius)

“Yes… but more importantly, who are you?” (Elf)

“We’ll talk about that later. For now, let me check your wounds.” (Sirius)

The Elf woman was understandably suspicious but seemed unable to resist. The wound on her side was fine, but the one on her arm was deeply stabbed and still bleeding. With those men around, she couldn’t be treated properly, so I wrapped a towel I had around it for first aid.

“Hey! That brat is approaching the Elf!” (Bandit)

“Damn it, let’s kill that brat first!” (Leader)

Oh, they noticed.

As I put the medicines I took from the men into my bag, the Elf woman placed her hand on my cheek.

“Don’t do anything more dangerous. I’m fine, so run away quickly.” (Elf)

“…Understood.” (Sirius)

“Thank you, good boy.” (Elf)

A beautiful lady smiling like that has overwhelming power. Slightly flustered, I slipped my arm under her body and…

“Then, let’s run away together!” (Sirius)

“Wait!?” (Elf)

I activated ‘Boost’ and lifted her… of course, in a princess carry. My arm length wasn’t quite enough to lift an adult woman, but I forcibly supported her using ‘String’.

And so, I ran away carrying the Elf woman.
