Strengths and Weaknesses

When Stella and I returned home, Wood had gone out to the Large Tree Tower. She also had work to do for her own creation. It seemed she was about to start making it in a form close to the final version.

In the living room, there was Marcosias in her puppy form lying on her back, and Dia. Marcosias’s belly was completely exposed, and Dia was kneading her white belly.

“Welcome back, piyo.” (Dia)

“Welcome back, it is.” (Marcosias)

“I’m home…!” (Stella)

“I’m home. …What are you doing?” (Elt)

Dia was kneading with her fluffy wings. Marcosias was flopped out, looking like she was feeling good.

“Knead-knead piyo. If you do this, the moisture of the fur increases, piyo.” (Dia)

“It is a massage.” (Marcosias)

“I see…” (Elt)

“When you knead, it gets better, piyo.” (Dia)

…Was Marcosias’s belly pickles or something? No, maybe grass dumplings?

“Piyo. That’s all for today, piyo.” (Dia)

Dia stopped kneading and rested her head on Marcosias’s belly. It was like using it as a pillow.

“Moist, nice smell, piyo.” (Dia)

“It is thanks to my master. Thank you, it is.” (Marcosias)

“You’re welcome, piyo.” (Dia)

Rubbing, Dia pressed her cheek against Marcosias’s belly.

“Now then, shall we make the uniform…!” (Stella)

Stella placed the tools she had brought back onto the table. I also put the materials I had brought onto the table.

“Right, let’s work hard and make it.” (Elt)

“Piyo. This was that thing for making clothes, piyo.” (Dia)

“Yeah, we need to put it into shape…” (Elt)

First would be the pattern paper. Pattern paper is the blueprint for clothes. You draw each part of the clothing in full size. You copy this onto the fabric, cut it out according to it, and sew it together to complete the clothing. It’s the guide for how to cut the large fabric of Marude-cotton.

“First, we have to make the pattern paper.” (Elt)

Those tools were properly inside the bag, rulers and large paper for the pattern.

“Then, let’s draw the pattern paper…” (Stella)

“Hmm…? Don’t we need to take measurements?” (Elt)

Pattern paper is the clothing blueprint. If you don’t know the wearer’s size, you can’t determine the size to cut each part.

“…If it’s Elt-sama’s size, I know it approximately. The uniform is loose-fitting as well.” (Stella)

Stella averted her eyes slightly as she answered.

“That means…” (Elt)

“If it’s Mother, she can probably draw it from visual estimation and our daily skinship.” (Marcosias)

“Uuh, Maru-chan… You don’t have to say it out loud again…!” (Stella)

…I see.

She suddenly started showing affection. Stella was blushing as well. Saying it herself must have made her embarrassed.

“Well, anyway… I can’t draw the pattern paper, so I’ll leave it to you…” (Elt)

Ugh, my face feels a bit hot.

“You two get along, piyo.” (Dia)

On top of Marcosias’s belly, Dia was relaxing carefree.

The pattern-making finished quickly. It seemed that sewing skill was essential for adventurers.

“Since adventurers also have long encampments, you see. Of course, clothes can also get torn in battles with monsters.” (Stella)

Stella said while looking at the completed pattern paper. It seemed the embarrassment had vanished while she was drawing. When she focused, she really focused. That was one of Stella’s strengths.

“…Still, amazing. It was done in no time.” (Elt)

Once she grabbed the ruler and pen, she wrote it all out at great speed.

“Same with the ship, but Mother is skillful, piyo.” (Dia)

“Things where you just need to move your hands according to a fixed procedure are not much trouble for me.” (Stella)

“It’s talent, it is.” (Marcosias)

“That’s true… I suppose cooking is also in that category…” (Elt)

She had learned reading and writing of this era very quickly as well, so she must really be good at it.

“Now then, let’s copy this…” (Stella)

We transferred the measurements from the pattern paper onto the Marude-cotton. That also finished quickly.

“I wonder if that around-thirty adventurer is also good at this kind of thing…” (Elt)

Stella answered the question I had muttered.

“They probably can’t make complex clothes, but they should be able to make their own clothes… When we went to Zanzas before, Leia said she had kept the curriculum I made.” (Stella)

“She’s thorough…” (Elt)

Well, even on Earth, during the Age of Discovery or Antarctic expeditions, they must have thought the same way. Providing for yourself what you need is not easy.

“Then all adventurers can make stuffed animals.” (Elt)

“They can’t…!? Not everyone has Leia’s level of sewing skill, after all…!” (Stella)

“It’s a joke, Stella.” (Elt)

So, Leia was special after all. Well, there were days when she practically lived like a cockatrice-goods manufacturer.

And so, it was finally time to cut the Marude-cotton.

“Uh, to cut… We have to use these magic scissors we borrowed from Leia, right?” (Elt)

“Yes, apparently it doesn’t cut well unless you channel mana while using it…” (Stella)

It was a small pair of fabric scissors. At the base of the blades, there was a round stone attached. By channeling mana into this stone, it made adjustments and cut properly. Without mana, it couldn’t process the material.

“This is my first time using it as well… Hup.” (Stella)

Stella swiftly picked up the scissors. She looked the part.

“…Huh?” (Stella)

“What’s wrong?” (Elt)

“It’s hard to channel mana… Ei!” (Stella)

*Flash!*

Suddenly, the round stone on the scissors shone.

*Bright!*

“Piyo!?” (Dia)

The light quickly went out.

“W-what was that, piyo…?” (Dia)

“…Sorry. It seems I can’t adjust my mana well… I think I put in too much mana.” (Stella)

“Mana overflowed, huh…” (Elt)

“I’m not very compatible with stones, swords, or armor… I didn’t think I’d be incompatible with scissors too.” (Stella)

There was also that story about Stella snapping a borrowed holy sword in half. Maybe she really had poor compatibility with mineral-based things. If she was an elf living with the forest, perhaps it made sense…?

“Well, it doesn’t seem broken, so… Don’t worry about it. I’ll do it.” (Elt)

“Uu, I’m sorry…” (Stella)

I received the scissors from Stella. They were small, about the size for a child to use. I tried channeling mana into them. The round stone on the scissors softly glowed pale yellow.

Hmm, it went well. Now I should be able to cut the Marude-cotton.

“Looks like it’s fine…” (Elt)

“It shined, piyo!” (Dia)

“Ooh!” (Marcosias)

*Clap clap clap*

Stella clapped her hands.

Well… Probably, if you have mana, it’s not that hard. These scissors were surely made for noble children. Even as a mini-size, they would probably cost several gold coins. The trick is to channel mana very weakly. But for Stella, maybe that was actually harder.

Well, sometimes things like this happen. Rather, it is a little endearing that Stella also has things she isn’t good at. She is almost a perfect superhuman, after all.

“Alright, let’s try cutting with this.” (Elt)

“Yes…!” (Stella)
