Chapter 93

(Thank you for reading at bayabuscotranslation.com)

The ‘Goblin Mage’ in front of me, rare for a goblin, was not wearing animal skin but cloth clothes. The stretched and yellowed clothes were tied at the waist. Hearing the sloppy sound of feet dragging as it walked, I quietly approached its back.

An opponent without caution. Much easier than a rabbit.

Thinking so, the tension in my body dissolved, and I was able to see the ‘Goblin Mage’ as just an ordinary goblin. Then, all that was left was to finish it. I grabbed the goblin’s shoulder with my right hand to hold it down and stabbed it with the sword in my left hand. Without haste, I slid the blade and pulled it out, then beheaded it.

What was unexpected was that the staff it held in its hand fell with a louder sound than I had thought. In the brief moment before it disappeared like mist, that happened.

*Clang*

At the unforeseen event, I hesitated for a moment.

Should I run away quickly or hide somewhere?

At that moment of hesitation, a ‘Hobgoblin’ appeared.

“No way…” (Kouta)

My hesitation was brief, and I turned on my heel and ran away!

There are two reasons. First, it is a monster I encountered for the first time. To fight with enough safety margin, it’s better to face monsters I know. The second is that if there is a monster like this one that notices something and came running, I would be finished. There is no such thing as running away recklessly. That is reckless in a dungeon.

So, desperately, I ran imagining the escape route. I retraced the route I came through in reverse. Panicking and losing control, I somehow restrained myself and continued running without losing direction!

The ‘Hobgoblin’ was spear-wielding. It would be harder to be attacked if I passed through areas with many trees. But since it’s harder to run there, I might be caught. Despite the slight conflict, my body ran through the woods faster than my thoughts.

When I left the ‘Goblin Village’, multiple shouting voices I heard behind me were now completely silent. Still, I knew I was being chased.

*Footsteps*

I heard the sound of long strides running from behind. Not like a wolf running on all fours. Not like a normal goblin with short legs either. The long strides meant long legs. For example, like a ‘Hobgoblin’. I glanced back.

No mistake, it is him!

“You are persistent… you…” (Kouta)

Even though I ran quite a lot, the ‘Hobgoblin’ was still chasing me. But he was alone. I chose to kill him in the forest.

Hiding behind a tree trunk, I held my breath and confirmed the opponent. The enemy was definitely a ‘Hobgoblin’. Tall, spear-wielding, thin but muscular, and seemed not to move badly. He seemed a bit lacking in brains. He had lost sight of me and was wandering nearby.

Just like Emilia…

I suddenly regained my calm.

How great you are. The panic from earlier felt like a lie. Now, I feel like I could survive even if I caused a commotion in the ‘Goblin Village’.

With the ‘Hobgoblin’ wandering nearby searching for me, I stabbed my sword into the ground, took out a PET bottle, drank water, and rested. I had become quite bold. Thinking of her, the ‘Hobglin’ nearby was no longer scary at all. I even had the composure to throw salt and sugar tablets into my mouth.

If I think about dodging her offense, this is no crisis at all. If I take it head-on, I probably have to confess at least, or I won’t be forgiven. The stubbornness is quite similar too.

“Your failure was coming alone to chase me…” (Kouta)

Muttering this, I decided to finish it. From behind the tree trunk, I searched for his position. I attacked at the moment he was not facing me.

First, I hit, a strike that would probably anger Onee-chan if she knew. Still, the leg was deeply cut thanks to ‘Kokimaru’. The thrust he immediately returned was dodged by turning my body half, and I gave him another strike. This time I aimed for the arm. But I did not cut through the bone. It was probably because of unnatural movement.

Even if my stats rise, I still cannot fully imitate Onee-chan’s movements.

While the ‘Hobgoblin’ who was cut on limbs held his spear, I grew more cautious and carefully finished him off. There was no sign of further pursuers. From now on, time was on my side. Like a wolf, I circled around the prey, waiting for exhaustion, constantly watching for an opening. The heavily injured ‘Hobgoblin’ gradually slowed due to bleeding, and when he lost his balance, I cut him down. It was a long battle.

I gratefully took his drops and ended my hunt for the day.
