Chapter 92

(Thank you for reading at bayabuscotranslation.com)

I decided to wait for a day when I would be solo and try to stir up the “Goblin Village”. I planned to observe how they react and, if possible, hunt the “Goblin Mage” and return. That became my goal.

In my view, the village itself could be handled if Haruka-kun supports me. Alone, I definitely cannot defeat that chieftain-like goblin. He has that much presence. So today, I will aim to take down the target and retreat before the chieftain moves. This is the minimum condition for me to survive.

Just recalling that chieftain-like goblin’s presence makes me so nervous I almost lose consciousness… But I have grown through experience. I will not fall over something like this!

Besides, every day I am pressed by the beautiful Emilia!! If I faint because of some goblin, I would feel sorry to Emilia! That guy is pretty strong, you know!? Her kicks, taught by her father, are dangerous! If she adds centrifugal force with those long legs, it may not be just my consciousness that’s cut down. Well, recently I feel the risk of being eaten is higher than being kicked. Please wait a bit until I steel my resolve!

Shaking off distracting thoughts of Emilia, I headed toward the third-floor “Goblin Village.”

I don’t dislike wandering the dungeon with everyone cheerfully, but I also really like the time when I move alone like this. I relax, don’t adapt to others, don’t put on a false front, and spend time reflecting on and accepting my true self. It’s time to synchronize my mind and body, you could say. I sometimes accept with a wry smile my selfish, greedy, and vain self that I want to look away from.

“This is just how I am.” (Kouta)

I think. It’s not that I belittle myself. I forgive myself and say, “Don’t pretend to be someone else”. Some might say growing means continuing to pretend to be better. But that would tire me out. So, in this alone time, I check my own pace. Isn’t that fine? It’s embarrassing if others see it.

Once again, I came here. The “Goblin Village” where I trembled and ran away last time. Solo activity on the third floor depends on how quickly you can handle wolves that might call for help.

I actively hunted wolves to silence them.

The monster spawn cycle is still unknown. So, it’s not that they stop appearing after a certain number are killed. Therefore, once decided, I have no choice but to proceed.

I saw the “Goblin Village”. I hurried to confirm the target and the infiltration route.

The more time I take, the more likely I am to be discovered. For now, time is my enemy.

I confirmed the target “Goblin Mage”.

Fortunately, he is close to where I am now. The route is not bad. At least for an amateur like me, it looks like the best possible situation.

I decided to execute. Along the village walls, I began moving quietly, hiding myself. Though it was a dungeon, the plants were almost no different from outside nature, slightly irritating my movement.

Each time, I took a deep breath and regained calm. It took time, but somehow I reached the planned infiltration route. However, I almost clicked my tongue at the moving “Goblin Mage” who left his original position.

A mage, and yet he wanders about carelessly! If it were Mira, she definitely wouldn’t do that. She moves only when necessary and never without reason. I am certain of that.

I reluctantly decided to quietly follow the “Goblin Mage”, now a little farther away. Inside the “Goblin Village”, as it appeared from outside, there were only shabby houses. At times, it seemed like a poorly made set. But it wasn’t. The rotten smell lingering and scattered wood fragments made that clear.

A small doubt flickered in my mind about why it wasn’t absorbed into the dungeon. I recalled the current situation and pushed the doubt to the back of my mind. A fair number of goblins moved within the village. I heard several footsteps.

I ignored my own creeping footsteps and concentrated on the others. The regular “jaj, jaj” footsteps belong to warrior-type goblins, probably “Goblin Soldiers”, also called Goblin Macho. They were power-types, and a good match for me. The small, quick “ji, ji, ji, ji” footsteps might be “Goblin Scouts”.

I had never fought them. I wanted to avoid encountering those if possible. The sloppy dragging steps with a cane, “zu, zu, ton, zu, zu, ton,” must be the “Goblin Mage”. The layout and movement of the sounds are not bad.

“I’m lucky…” (Kouta)
