Chapter 75

Upon entering the 3rd floor, the difficulty of fighting goblins increased slightly. The ones with the unnecessarily cool name “Goblin Riders” were pretty troublesome. They attacked using the speed of their wolves and the dexterity of the goblins.
On top of that, if you took down the wolf, they’d just continue fighting as regular goblins, and if you took down the goblin, the wolf would still join the fight. Sometimes, they’d even get on and off their mounts, expanding their tactical options. They are truly annoying opponents.
“Two riders are circling to the right! Kouta, take the left!” (Mira)
“…Roger.” (Kouta)
Mira caught me glancing to the left for just a second.
I mean, I couldn’t help it!
Sofia was engaging the main enemy force. Emilia swung her spear to keep them in check.
As expected, the spear’s range was effective even against the Goblin Riders. In fact, it was harder to deal with the wolves on their own. Their quick lateral movements made them hard to handle.
“They’re dismounting! Emilia, take the goblins! I’ll keep the wolves in check!” (Mira)
“I’ll handle the front. Sofia, back Mira up.” (Kouta)
Since only one was left in the main group and it was injured, I had Sofia go protect Mira.
“Yes!” (Sofia)
Sofia’s armor was so tough that the wolves’ fangs couldn’t do a thing. Without the goblins’ weapons, they couldn’t put even a scratch on her.
“Sofia!?” (Mira)
“That side’s done.” (Sofia)
Mira was probably surprised that Sofia suddenly joined the fray. In response, I informed her that we had finished off the main group.
“That helps a lot!” (Mira)
In the end, the last wolf escaped.
“Let’s get out of here quickly!” (Mira)
“““Roger.””” (Everyone)
We picked up the drops and hurried away from the area. Along the way, some goblins managed to snatch up drops and run off.
Those guys even do stuff like that!
“…They… didn’t… chase… us…” (Mira)
“For now, yeah. Let’s take a break. Mira, you rest. I’ll keep watch. You two rest too.” (Kouta)
I prioritized letting the out-of-breath Mira rest.
Even on the 2nd floor, wolves occasionally called for reinforcements. It was extremely rare though, so chances to see it were almost nonexistent. But on this floor, it happened now and then. And it wasn’t just wolves. Sometimes an entire goblin pack would show up, or a group of just Goblin Riders would charge in. A wide variety of reinforcements.
It was like that “infinite spawn” stuff one often saw in games. If we had a reliable way to take them down, it might be a good way to farm. But for us, visiting the 3rd floor for the first time, endlessly spawning monsters were nothing but terrifying.
All of us, myself included, were seriously worn out. On top of that, Mira’s staff being broken really hurt. We got surrounded once by a growing number of goblins, and a tall goblin managed to get close. When Mira blocked its sword with her staff, the staff broke as a result. That moment really panicked us. Mira quickly pulled out a backup knife and fought back, and her efforts deserved praise.
“Listen up. Let’s go back up to the 2nd floor for now. Figuring out the cause or continuing the fight will be tough on this floor. We’ll get some real rest up there and decide in the afternoon what to do next.” (Kouta)
Even as I said continuing the fight would be difficult, I was still thinking about how we could conquer this floor.
