Chapter 73

(Thank you for reading at bayabuscotranslation.com)

Our exploration of the 3rd floor began. We headed to the 3rd floor on foot, of course. The members of the Self-Defense Forces were driving vehicles in, but that was under the premise that at least one person must always remain in the vehicle during operation. Otherwise, before anyone realized it, the dungeon would absorb it.

Tents, garbage, clothing, equipment… if those were left behind, they would also be absorbed. If a living creature over 1 cm was not in contact with them, they would disappear after a while. Therefore, civilian vehicles were basically prohibited from entering. Since even corpses got absorbed, if someone caused an accident and fled, it would be a problem.

Still, if there were taxis inside the dungeon, that would be convenient. We ran through the 1st floor of the dungeon in full gear from the morning. Our enhanced bodies moved without being burdened by the weight of water or food. However, while the fully armored Sofia was running calmly, Mira, who at a glance looked the most lightly equipped, was oddly struggling. It’s unexpectedly troublesome how clearly the differences in status show in situations like this.

If it were just me, I could run through the 1st floor in 10 minutes. With this group, we have to expect 30 minutes to an hour. Naturally, the return trip takes the same amount of time. Moving is surprisingly a hassle. It makes me want escape magic like in games.

At times like this, the idea of using my [Support Magic] crossed my mind.

It was not like I did not understand the danger of my information being exposed. But still, I ended up wanting to take the easy route, thinking that maybe, with these girls, it would be fine. Even though I should have prioritized personal safety over dungeon efficiency, it was a shallow thought.

The 2nd floor had about the same travel distance. Although each floor was gradually getting wider, the stair locations were close. If we took the shortest path, a day trip was still possible.

“Mira, if it’s too much, why not have Kouta carry you on his back?” (Sofia)

“Eh? Me carry her?” (Kouta)

“Well, I don’t mind doing it either, but Kouta looks like he’s running the most comfortably.” (Sofia)

I couldn’t help but glance around at everyone.

I see, indeed.

Sofia and Emilia looked like they were just lightly exercising, and Mira was panting heavily. My body was just finally starting to warm up.

“No, it’s fine…” (Mira)

Yeah, getting a piggyback as a high schooler is kind of embarrassing.

“Hmm, I thought it was a good idea though. Kouta, do you dislike it?” (Sofia)

“I don’t particularly mind. As long as Mira is okay with it.” (Kouta)

“Why not let her ride on Kouta’s back?” (Emilia)

I don’t think Sofia, who supported Emilia, meant any harm. But even if she looks small, it doesn’t mean her heart is childish, so it must be embarrassing for her.

The sharp, glaring look she gave was clearly stating: “I don’t want to!!”.

Those two have a bit of a skewed sense of things.

That’s why Mira directed her gaze at me, the one who seemed most likely to pick up on her feelings.

“Mira still seems like she can keep going, but if you’re tired on the way back, let me know. I’ll carry you then.” (Kouta)

Mira looked satisfied, like she got exactly what she wanted.

Though I’m sure she wants to catch her breath quickly, it’s a busy life.

“I see? I’ll count on you then.” (Sofia)

“You don’t have to force yourself though.” (Emilia)

You really don’t get it. If anything, being carried is what requires more effort to endure. We’re still running, but for now we start walking.

“Their parents are very lovey-dovey, you see. No, not that my own home has a bad relationship or anything? Because of that, they sometimes fool around and do stuff like that. So, they have no resistance to things like piggybacks.” (Sofia)

“I see…” (Kouta)

Rather than a national difference, it’s a family difference. Emilia, for instance, is unusually close in terms of personal space. Sometimes it throws me off. I feel like we’re suddenly close, and that’s not a bad thing, per se…

But Mira really loves those girls. Deadpan eyes, magical girl, tsundere… her attributes are overflowing.

Thinking about that, I just kept walking.

“Kouta, you’re thinking about something stupid, aren’t you.” (Mira)

Mira gave me a deadpan look as she spoke.

On top of that, her intuition is abnormally sharp.
