The Beginning of the Magic Art Revolution

(Thank you for reading at bayabuscotranslation.com)

“Heh. So magic flux is alternating current.” (Leon)

I see now. The Magic Art Model Common Document really is educational.

Just recently, a subset of the High Elf language was suddenly installed. Thanks to that, I was finally able to read the deeper layer of documents that had been an insurmountable wall ever since I set my sights on the path of magic art.

I should be extremely fortunate, yet for some reason, I do not feel that way. No, that is wrong. I should be grateful. Even without Kaa-sama’s teachings.

Hm? Wait a moment. If magic flux has a frequency, then…

I followed the document links one after another.

“I knew it…” (Leon)

Each magic art had its own unique frequency. Or should I say, a resonance frequency?

Diving deeper into the layers of the magic art model, I found a magical equivalent circuit model, where the resonance frequency is determined by impedance.

To activate a magic art, it is necessary to excite the magic flux within the acceptable error range of this frequency. I see. I see. But even so, I had never been consciously aware of such things during activation.

I searched through the documents further.

Ah, so the magic art model, once initiated, emits a magic-guiding wave for invocation, which is applied to the human body for amplification. Ultimately, the demon world intensity increases, and the magic art activates.

What an incredible system. And it is done not virtually but through the living body. However, it seems that during the process of passing through the human body model, noise can be introduced, sometimes preventing the activation of magic arts. So that’s what it was. Furthermore, the closer the supplied demon world intensity is to the resonance frequency, the higher the magic penetration rate becomes, allowing the magic art to be invoked with less mana.

That is excellent. It is something worth controlling. Let’s do it at once!

I arrived at the usual private land in the suburbs.

Humming to myself, I climbed the small mountain or rather, hill. Over the past few years, I had trained my body and even applied a little physical enhancement magic art, so I did not lose breath with just this.

Crossing over the ridge, I began to descend.

Come to think of it, there’s less grass here now, making it easier to pass. When I first started coming, it was little more than an animal trail, but since I came so frequently, the grass gradually wore down, turning it into a usable path.

Before I knew it, I had arrived at the lakeside.

“Let’s do it.” (Leon)

Though no one was around, I voiced it aloud and extended my arm toward the lake, which was about a hundred meters in diameter.

≪Breeze Modified 3.5≫

*Whoa!*

With a roar, the lake surface rippled.

Originally, Breeze was just a magic art that created wind, but I had heavily modified it into a compressed air projectile and that was version 3. Now I’ve improved it even further.

By diving into the deeper layers of the magic art model, I had begun to understand the activation mechanism.

To use magic art, you must raise the demon world intensity to match the resonance frequency, though it will still activate if within a certain margin of error and above the required threshold.

Of course, the further the frequency deviates from the resonance point, the weaker the effect becomes. For wind magic, that means decreased airflow and wind speed. If it were just that, it would be fine, but the activation time lengthens and the mana consumption increases, making the efficiency drastically worse.

For that, the magic art model has a set maximum allowable frequency deviation, and unless it falls within that range, it will not activate, and mana supply is automatically blocked. Apparently, veteran practitioners compensate for reduced mana in old age through increased efficiency. Incidentally, according to the document, the basic magic arts used by novice practitioners have wide tolerance ranges.

So, I changed the tolerance setting. I halved the previous standard, and that was what version 3.5.

Indeed, the effect… no, the power has increased by a few levels, I think.

Then…

≪Breeze Modified 3.6≫

Ugh, I felt some recoil in my arm. This is the version where the tolerance is narrowed to one-fourth. No doubt about it. The closer you get to the resonance frequency, the more powerful it becomes.

The waves on the water’s surface were gouged deep.

I lowered my arm slightly.

≪Breeze Modified 3.6≫

Whoa!

With a thunderous roar, a water column shot up.

At this level, it becomes an offensive magic art. It might even be enough to take down a magic beast… If that’s the case, it adds value to my ability to use magic arts. No, I’ll think about that later. Right now, I must focus on the magic art.

Let’s narrow the activation tolerance even more.

≪Breeze Modified 3.7≫

Huh?

≪Breeze Modified 3.7≫

It won’t activate. Did I overdo the narrowing? In version 3.7, I set the tolerance to one-eighth. I had a hunch, but apparently, unless the probability of falling within the tolerance is high enough, it won’t activate.

≪Breeze Modified 3.7≫

.

..

Haa, haa…

Before I realized it, I was breathing heavily from my shoulders.

Even without activation, I felt firsthand how both mana and physical stamina are consumed. I thought I had trained decently, but clearly, not enough. I need to increase my cardio. At this stage of advancing to higher-tier magic arts, poor conditioning will cause issues.

Focus…

“Leon-dono appears to possess a unique activation process for magic arts, a distinct method of raising intent, and exceptional mana strength.” (Morgan)

Yes. I can do it.

≪Breeze Modified 3.7≫

The space before me turned white, converged into a sphere, and shot forward. In that moment, wind magic art had transformed into shockwave magic art.

Oh crap! It not only gouged the water surface deeply but even toppled several trees on the opposite bank. Ugh. There was recoil, too.

I fell backward and landed on my rear.

Gahhh, my right arm… It’s numb all the way to my shoulder. My breathing is ragged. I did it! I did it, but it’s rough.

The documents said that increasing magic art power would also intensify post-cast stiffness and stun effects. I had intellectually understood that a surge of magic flux flowing at once would shock the body, but now I truly experienced it. Should I wait until I’m an adult and my body is more developed? No, I should strengthen my body more.

I saw some challenges, but I also gained valuable results. Being able to use such powerful magic art gave me confidence.

Still, even though it’s the same phenomenon of moving air, I can no longer call it the same magic art. When using the brain system, I don’t think I’ll misfire, but when using standard activation, it’s questionable. Rather than indicating it with a version number, I should give it a new name.

I activated Stetra and rewrote the model’s name.

≪Shock Impulse≫

I thrust my arm skyward and activated it with all my might.

Phew. The air turned white.

Whoa, thunderous crashes echoed repeatedly from above.

Haa… haa… haa…

“Oh my, Leon-sama. What has happened? Are you all right?” (Zolka)

“Ah, Zolka…” (Leon)

Once I entered the mansion, I must have let my guard down. I collapsed right there.

That was when the head maid found me.

“Ursula, go summon Kaa-sama!” (Zolka)

“Y-Yes! But Kaa-sama was preparing to go out.” (Ursula)

“Go summon her quickly…………” (Zolka)

So cold, and it feels good.

Something cold was pressed against my forehead… a hand.

My eyes opened.

“Kaa-sama.” (Leon)

“It seems your fever has gone down, Leon.” (Mother)

Kaa-sama’s fingers were slender, white, and cool to the touch.

Hmm. I hadn’t noticed, but I had developed a fever.

“This is…?” (Leon)

It’s my own room.

“Conan and Hein carried you from the entrance to here. Make sure you thank them later.” (Mother)

“Yes.” (Leon)

Ah.

“Kaa-sama, weren’t you going somewhere?” (Leon)

Ursula had said something like that.

“Did I say that?” (Mother)

Looking over at Kaa-sama, her clothes were the same as usual. But her long hair was tied up.

“Kaa-sama is kind when I’m asleep, huh.” (Leon)

“Yes. When you’re asleep, you’re like you were as a baby. When you’re awake, you’re cheeky and troublesome.” (Mother)

“Even more than Hein-niisan?” (Leon)

“Hein? Fufu, Hein has a sharp tongue sometimes, but he’s honest and a good boy… no, he’s already an adult now. Compared to him…” (Mother)

“Eh.” (Leon)

“You may act calm in front of me, but you’re stubborn and reckless. I thought you were maturing a little since starting magic arts, but… you haven’t changed. I bet today you overdid your magic art training again, didn’t you?” (Mother)

Ugh. She saw right through me.

“Yes. Among your siblings, you’re the biggest troublemaker. Conan and Hein spoiled you too much because you’re the youngest.” (Mother)

She said quite a lot, but the expression on Kaa-sama’s face as she sat beside the bed was gentle and smiling.

“I will exercise restraint from now on.” (Leon)

“There you go again, saying things you don’t mean. Fufu. It’s all right. Boys should be a bit reckless. But don’t make Otou-sama cry. He worries about you the most, after all.” (Mother)

“Yes.” (Leon)

“By the way, tomorrow is Sunday.” (Mother)

Ugh.

“You know what I’m trying to say, don’t you?” (Mother)

“Y-Yes.” (Leon)
