If It Does Not Sing, The Swallow Will Not Be Struck

(Thank you for reading at bayabuscotranslation.com)

At the village of Healberry Village.

Today is a holiday, huh.

Holding Dia, I walked with Wood. The morning was cold, but the daytime was comfortable. It seemed this land did not have frost. The crops were lush and green. The leaves on the big tree’s house were also deeply green. Apparently, even in winter, the green leaves did not change. Aside from the temperature, the village always felt like spring or summer.

“Kaa-sama is at the hometown now, piyo.” (Dia)

“That’s right. If all goes well, it should be so.” (Elt)

“Ugo ugo. I wonder if it’s okay…” (Wood)

Wood scratched his cheek quietly.

“Ugo… Kaa-san is a bit careless… I hope she doesn’t have trouble with Clarissa’s Okaa-san.” (Wood)

“…It should be fine, yeah.” (Elt)

Wood’s perspective had recently broadened. Not only from things he had seen or heard, but also from books, he could now predict things. Wood’s concern was reasonable, but I wasn’t too worried. Stella and Nana were unmistakably S-rank adventurers. Regardless of Stella’s origin, that fact did not waver.

And the title of S-rank adventurer was immense. If an S-rank adventurer officially visited, no noble or royalty could ignore them. If they were turned away, the Adventurer Guild would surely cause trouble. There were countless stories of nobles who ignored adventurers’ warnings and met ruin.

“Piyo, Clarissa’s Kaa-sama? Why piyo?” (Dia)

“Ugo ugo… She might be seen as someone who would steal the throne…” (Wood)

“Piyo? Kaa-sama wants to be the king, piyo…?” (Dia)

“Ugo, no… But they might interpret it that way…” (Wood)

Wood read the situation pretty well.

Well, if Tara’s younger sister suddenly appeared, it would be natural to be cautious. However, it’s still difficult for Dia.

She kept tilting her head.

“Piyo? Piyo…?” (Dia)

“It’s fine. It’s still early.” (Elt)

I stroked her soft, fluffy head. Dia happily pressed her head against me.

“…Hayapiyo?” (Dia)

“You’ll understand eventually.” (Elt)

As we walked, we passed various people. Two cockatrices strolled side by side, and some adventurers carried bats and balls. Life in the village had stabilized, and everyone was starting to do what they liked individually.

For the time being, field ball seemed quite popular. Adventurers seemed to like moving their bodies. Then there was fishing. Only rainbow fish lived in the lake, but the forest springs and streams seemed to have some fish.

“Ran-raan.” (Tetetoka)

“Ah, Tetetoka, piyo.” (Dia)

Walking cheerfully was Tetetoka, carrying various kinds of branches.

“Oh, you are in splendid spirits.” (Tetetoka)

“Greetings, Tetetoka. Are those branches… for decorating flowers?” (Elt)

“Yes.” (Tetetoka)

She shook the branches to show them. I didn’t really understand the criteria for choosing them. I was good at appreciating but making them myself seemed difficult.

“I’ll try making a few.” (Tetetoka)

“Sorry to trouble you. Thank you.” (Elt)

“No, no. Ah, but…” (Tetetoka)

At that moment, I felt Tetetoka’s eyes sparkle.

“If it’s drums, I’d like a lot.” (Tetetoka)

O-okay…

The Eastern Country.

Stella, Nana, Marcosias, and the queens had headed early in the morning to the White Spring. The White Spring lay in a forest near the royal capital. That forest was a forbidden zone, and the residents were banned from entering. The forest swirled with oppressive mana.

The party walked on a wild, rough natural path like a beast trail. Stella was fired up since morning, her eyes blazing fiercely.

“The stream is turning white, isn’t it?” (Stella)

Stella looked down at the faintly white stream flowing beside the path. Mana overflowing from the ley lines mixed with water makes this stream milky white.

Following it led to the White Spring.

“That’s right… We are almost there, Stella-sama.” (Queen)

The queen rode on a simple yet magnificent palanquin. Her entourage surrounded her, including Clarissa.

“…It will be somewhat dangerous beyond here.” (Stella)

Stella looked back and reminded the queen. Since they came this far, I suppose they intend to witness it.

“I understand. I only want to get as close as possible.” (Queen)

“If so, I won’t stop you…” (Stella)

They then proceeded quietly on the beast trail. With every step, the tension increased.

Clarissa whispered softly to the queen on the palanquin.

“I’ve never seen the [Swallow] directly… but your Okaa-sama has?” (Clarissa)

“…Neither have I.” (Queen)

According to legend, it was said to be a gigantic swallow. Its feathers burned blue fiercely, its eyes pierced the soul coldly. It flew in the sky and burned towns to ashes with raging mana. However, it had been sealed for hundreds of years. No one had seen its form. If a fight broke out, nothing but Stella’s knowledge and experience could be relied upon.

The stream’s color deepened gradually into a milky white. It was eerily quiet. No signs of insects or birds as felt at the forest entrance.

Then, the group arrived at a clearing in the forest. In front of them was a pure white spring. Nothing else.

“It hasn’t changed, huh.” (Stella)

There was a slight nostalgia in Stella’s words.

“Queen-sama, please wait here. Do not enter the open space.” (Stella)

“…Understood. May your fortune in battle be good.” (Queen)

Nana and Marcosias followed a step behind Stella. Nana’s role was to dismantle magical tools. Marcosias’s role was to retreat if things got dangerous. Actually, waiting was fine, but she volunteered to join.

“Maru-chan, if it gets dangerous, please run away.” (Nana)

“Understood.” (Marcosias)

Stella nodded at Nana.

“Nana, I will awaken the [Swallow]. Then…” (Stella)

“Yeah. I’ll do it according to plan.” (Nana)

Nana swung her arm, and a vividly colored whip appeared in her hand. It was Nana’s magical tool used to defeat the Flower species. This shining whip was one of the world’s top magical tools passed down by generations of Artifact Masters.

“Well then, here I go…!” (Stella)

Stella slowly stepped into the White Spring.

It wasn’t deep. She walked with the water around her ankles. Everyone except Marcosias held their breath watching as Stella headed toward the spring’s center. The spring’s depth was shallow, about shin level.

Stella crouched in the middle and clenched her left arm, raising it. In her arm was a small wooden statue of a swallow. It was a somewhat nihilistic, defiant-looking bird statue. Stella stared intently at the wooden statue taken from the spring. Her right hand reached for her bat.

“Well then… I will begin!” (Stella)

Stella shouted sharply.

Under everyone’s gaze, she lightly tossed the statue. Swiftly drew Durandal and struck it up with a clang.

“Ehhh!?” (Queen)

The queen screamed; the entourage was stunned.

“W-wait…” (Clarissa)

“Is one strike not enough…!” (Stella)

As the statue fell, Stella swung again.

*Clang!*

The statue shot high again.

Marcosias, who heard the plan beforehand, muttered quietly to Nana.

“Pretty rough, huh.” (Marcosias)

“It seems it needs impact. Holding a weapon while doing so makes sense.” (Nana)

The spring’s mana also helped suppress the [Swallow]. Therefore, the statue must be taken out and stimulated. Still, it was extremely daring. Stella probably didn’t tell the queen because they would have opposed this method.

Though rough, Stella’s method was reasonable. Magic gradually overflowed from the wooden statue flying in the air. It was about to erupt from inside.

“Here goes!” (Stella)

The third swing had more power than before.

*Clang!!*

The statue spun high into the sky.

And then… a blue light filled the sky.

“It’s dazzling!” (Nana)

“…It’s coming!” (Marcosias)

In Nana’s sight, a swallow appeared with wings spread wide. It shimmered as if covered in blue flames. Stella recognized her arch-enemy’s form and raised Durandal bravely.

“Aim for Koshien!” (Stella)
