Difference

The Adventurer Guild of Healberry Village.

Naru returned to her work, and I headed to the office on the third floor. That said, there wasn’t much to do as the Guild Master. There weren’t many documents needing my approval. Thanks to having enough staff, my duties were kept to a minimum. In Adventurer Guilds operated only by relatives, the Guild Master seemed to stay fairly busy. But I had income, so instead, I hired others and let the economy flow.

Leia was busy because she also held an executive position in Zanzas. As a Guild Master, it seemed she wasn’t all that busy thanks to having money. Also, the Adventurer Guild in Zanzas had ventured into developing and selling merchandise. On top of that, they even ran dungeon tour experiences… it was practically a general trading company based on the Zanzas dungeon.

No wonder she was busy. Healberry Village hadn’t reached that level yet. There was no product development, and no tours were being run.

Though it might be interesting if we tried….

At lunchtime, while I was resting in the office, Brown arrived carrying two lunch boxes. They were takeout boxes of Elven cuisine sold at the guild cafeteria on the first floor. It looked like he bought them right away.

“Nyaan. Pardon the intrusion, nyan!” (Brown)

“Oh. Come in.” (Elt)

When I beckoned, Brown walked over with small steps. I hadn’t particularly called him, but I was glad he came.

Brown sat in a chair and placed the lunch boxes on the desk.

Hmm, I’d like to confirm if customers are coming to the cafeteria… but if I go, it’ll probably cause a stir.

I decided to ask Brown instead.

“How was the cafeteria?” (Elt)

“It was booming, nyan! Even people outside the guild staff were coming, nyan!” (Brown)

“Hoho, that’s good to hear.” (Elt)

“The samples were delicious too, nyan. I think they’ll sell a lot, nyan!” (Brown)

For now, the menu only had the spicy stir-fry and steamed dumplings. But I had confidence in the mild-flavored versions we refined. The sharp spiciness was toned down, and the mellow heat and umami of tomato were brought out. The dumplings also had reduced use of strong ingredients like garlic, instead featuring many local vegetables.

I didn’t care too much about authenticity. It was fine to adapt it locally so that it was easier to eat.

“…By the way, why did you buy two?” (Elt)

“One is for Elt-sama, nya~n!” (Brown)

“You bought it for me…?” (Elt)

“Nyaan. I thought we could eat together, nyan.” (Brown)

…That’s enough to make me tear up. Yeah, being invited to eat by someone really makes me happy.

Of course, I handed the money to Brown and opened the lunch box. A soft, spicy aroma wafted out. These lunch boxes were also sold in the cafeteria. They were reusable types that could be washed.

Of course, you could also sit down and eat inside.

By the way, ventilation was fine too. Lighting, plumbing, ventilation, heating and cooling, all were handled flawlessly with magic tools.

I spent a fair amount of money on this…!

But there was no point in just saving it. I intended to use the place for a long time, so I invested in it properly.

“Nyaan… smells delicious, nyan.” (Brown)

“Yeah, it does… I heard the Nyaff tribe has sharp senses. Is this okay for you?” (Elt)

Since he was a cat, after all. I’d heard Dwarves and Ogres were on the opposite end, pretty dull.

“Thanks to using Rainbow Fish scales, it’s soft and pleasant, nya~n.” (Brown)

“You can tell the difference by smell?” (Elt)

“Of course, nyan. When I smelled authentic doubanjiang before… well, it depends on the brand, nyan.” (Brown)

Brown’s hesitant tone implied he didn’t like it very much. That was a blind spot. My eyes widened a bit. I was a human race, and my sense of smell was probably normal. It likely wasn’t different from my previous life either. And I didn’t notice much difference in smell between food made with Rainbow Fish scales and authentic doubanjiang. Maybe it was just a little milder. But to the Nyaff tribe, it apparently left a very different impression.

I hadn’t expected such a big gap to exist.

While eating the spicy stir-fry with a fork, I thought.

Hmm… If used well, this might become a new spark for development.

Meanwhile, Stella and the others were flying east through the sky. They landed, then flew again with super acceleration, repeating that pattern. From the very start, rain poured down hard, beating against the trees and the ground. If they followed the planned course, they’d be rained on the entire way.

After the first landing from super acceleration, Stella asked Nana, who was riding on her back.

“Hmm, what shall we do? Looks like it’ll keep raining ahead.” (Stella)

“Leave it to me.” (Nana)

Nana raised her thumb. Well, the thumb-like wing of the mascot suit and fumbled around her belly. It looked like she was pulling out some item.

“Ta-da~. The Cloak of the Wind Angel~!” (Nana)

“Oooh…” (Stella)

What Nana pulled out was a thin green cloak. She smoothly threw it over her mascot costume. When she did, a mysterious pale green aura began to envelop the three of them. Marcosias sniffed and moved her face.

“Woof! The rain isn’t getting in…?” (Marcosias)

“Indeed. I also feel the wind has weakened a lot.” (Stella)

“It uses magic power, but it shuts out rain and wind. I use it often when I travel.” (Nana)

What’s more, the inside of the green aura was warm and gentle. The rain-soaked bodies began to dry.

“So convenient…!” (Stella)

“If it’s magic tools, leave it to me.” (Nana)

With a proud fufu~n aura around her, Nana earned impressed looks from Stella and Marcosias.

“You’re one reliable mascot. Definitely capable, piyo!” (Stella)

“Capable piyo for sure!” (Marcosias)

“…I’m a Vampire, though?” (Nana)

“Oh right, I almost forgot.” (Stella)

“Alright!” Stella, filled with energy, once again braced her legs.

She jumped high into the air, and Marcosias activated red super acceleration.

*Shiiing! Vroooom… Shiiing! Vroooom…*

They repeated the motion, steadily covering more and more distance. Before long, they passed through the rain clouds, and a clear sky spread out before them. From time to time, Stella would stop, and Nana would check their position using a compass. If they deviated, they could end up somewhere ridiculous. Confirming their current location was essential.

“We’re making good progress. By the way, I hadn’t said anything because it felt too obvious, but… Stella, are you really okay? Jumping and landing repeatedly, it seems like a lot of strain.” (Nana)

“I’m fine…! In fact, my body’s getting more warmed up as we go. If we continue like this, I’ll arrive in the Elf country in top form!” (Stella)

“R-right…” (Nana)

From Nana’s perspective, Stella’s jumping likely stemmed from purely strengthening her physical ability with magic. Terrifyingly, it didn’t seem like she was using any magical tools. And Nana had never heard of any magician, either at the Noble Academy or during her travels, who could do such a thing. Even among S-Rank adventurers, she was on another level entirely. Nana recognized that anew.

Faintly, within her mascot suit, Nana murmured, making sure Stella couldn’t hear.

“…What a monster.” (Nana)

Yet, she felt truly reassured. The multi-century-long magical tool quest that Nana had once attempted and given up on… She hadn’t told anyone, but even successive Artifact Masters of the past had given up. And now, maybe it can actually be cleared. The mysterious magical tool might be unraveled and brought to completion. Yes… with this team, it might just be possible.
