Chapter 24

(Thank you for reading at bayabuscotranslation.com)

I opened my first-ever “treasure chest” in my life, and the threat of the trap nearly made me lose consciousness. I roughly shoved the contents of the “treasure chest” into the pocket of my jeans, and, dragging along my weakened body due to physical discomfort, I aimed for the outside of the dungeon. Even though, in terms of status, the effects of [Support Magic] were still active, and I should have been higher than usual, but because of my physical condition, I couldn’t make use of those precious stats.

From now on, I would have to consider things like bad health or lack of sleep too. With my sluggish head, I idly thought about that as I dragged my heavy feet toward the dungeon’s exit.

This is bad… I might get scolded again by the guild’s Onee-san. Personally, I don’t dislike being scolded by a pretty Onee-san, so I’d actually welcome it, but with how I’m feeling right now, I might really collapse.

Some people say it’s a reward or something, but I’m not that kind of high-level weirdo. If it were my middle school friend, Hiraiwa-kun, he’d definitely say that! If it’s someone as pretty as that onee-san, even Hiraiwa-kun would understand. He’s a weirdo, but not a normal person. That’s what made him great. I always envied that about him. I mean, every day seemed fun for him.

Thinking that way gave me just a little bit of energy.

Women are amazing. Just imagining them gives me strength. I don’t want to admit it’s thanks to Hiraiwa-kun, he’s a weirdo after all. I should’ve hung out with him at least once during spring break. If I had, maybe we could’ve gotten hyped over some spring anime or something.

Nah, probably not… He’s a high-level weirdo, he’d definitely push some magical girl anime for little kids!! There are other options, like robots or fantasy stuff, right!?

But fantasy stuff had been regulated since dungeons appeared. It wasn’t banned, but apparently creators were told to use real existing skills, strengths, and monster appearances. The government seemed to be trying to spread sensitive information to the public that way. But doing that meant the protagonist couldn’t go all overpowered or unleash flashy magic.

That was why production companies hesitated… according to Hiraiwa-kun, anyway.

“Oops…” (Kouta)

I casually cut down a goblin that ambushed me from the side.

Not good. I’m still in the dungeon. I need to focus.

Luckily, [Support Magic] was still active, so it worked out, but that had been dangerous. It must have been silently watching from behind the pampas grass, waiting for me to approach. It was a truly splendid ambush. I had relied on my boosted stats and reflexively sliced it vertically, top to bottom.

Somehow shaking off the distractions, I finally reached the dungeon entrance. It had been an exploration that made me think about a lot of things. When I entered the guild, the usual Onee-san wasn’t there, which was rare, so I hurriedly applied to use the appraisal room.

I remembered the item I had just picked up.

With a pounding heart, I stepped through the door and activated the usual appraisal device. Being watched by someone unfamiliar made me feel a little uneasy. The appraisal result came out!

“MP Ring” – A bracelet that increases the wearer’s MP by +50.

DEF: 3

MDEF: 3

MP +50

No way!?

I know from the guild homepage that there are two types of items that increased stats. This is the type that activates when worn! On top of that, it even has defense stats! It’s a standard item in games, but in this day and age, it’s an expensive product!!

According to the internet, once dungeons started producing more of these, prices might go down and they could become charm-like everyday items. Accessories like this rarely appeared from dungeons. But for now, they were still very valuable. I remembered that an accessory with MP +100 was being sold even in this guild’s shop for around 50 million yen.

I know mine won’t be worth half that, but… I can’t help getting my hopes up for the item I picked up. Well, I’m not planning to sell it though. With this, I can constantly use [Support Magic] while fighting. In other words, I can go even further. I can become even stronger!

The other type of stat-boosting item was edible. The boost was minuscule, but it lasted a lifetime. Of course, it cost hundreds of millions of yen and wasn’t even sold in this guild shop.

I wonder who would ever buy something that expensive…

I tightly strapped the “MP Ring” to the base of my upper arm under my clothes and exited the appraisal room.

When I proudly walked out of the appraisal room… The usual Onee-san was standing there, wearing a scary smile.

You… weren’t here a moment ago, right…?
