Chapter 13

(Thank you for reading at bayabuscotranslation.com)

After I defeated the unarmed goblin, I observed the women up ahead battling the knife-wielding goblin. The goblins had split into two groups, so it couldn’t be helped. Originally, I had been pursuing that goblin, and if one of the women got injured fighting it, I would feel bad afterward. So, I planned to step in if it started looking dangerous. I could have called out to them before the goblin reached them, but I chose not to. I prioritized hunting the goblin safely myself over warning them.

So, this is just for my own self-satisfaction. It’s not kindness or anything like that.

“This little…! Acting all smug just because you’re a goblin with a weapon!” (Emilia)

“No, even goblins are bound to carry weapons, right?” (Sofia)

“Sofia, no need for a calm retort. This is totally about the mood.” (Emilia)

“Is that so?” (Sofia)

“Exactly! Become my ramen money!!” (Emilia)

Ah, it’s the trio I met before. The one slashing the goblin with a passionate cry is the tallest one—the model-like woman. Then, the super-beautiful one must be Sofia-san? Even in the middle of a goblin battle, they’re so lively. And radiant, too.

…The reproachful-eyed girl isn’t reproaching!? Huh, her eyes are just open normally. Why? What’s going on here?

Ah, the knife swung by the model woman hit the goblin. This should settle it, right? Maybe I’ll just go say hi and head out. That would feel better. It’d be kind of rude to silently disappear after watching someone else’s fight in full. Well, maybe they wouldn’t mind, but still. If I were in their shoes, it would definitely bother me.

Huh? The goblin isn’t bleeding much? Even though all three of them are landing hits with their knives… Are those not “Goblin Knives,” but just regular store-bought ones!? They really are different, huh.

I was oddly impressed by the performance of my own “Goblin Knife” at a moment like this.

Wait… did it just run away?

“Ah! The goblin ran off again…” (Emilia)

“My ramen money!?” (Emilia)

“Come on, seriously… You over there—run!!” (Sofia)

Whoa, the goblin’s heading straight toward me. This isn’t the time to be leisurely spectating anymore. It’s okay if I take care of this, right? I’m going to kill it, alright? Yeah? Good? Thanks for the meal!

As the goblin came charging with its knife flailing wildly, I sidestepped it and drove my own knife into its side in passing. The force of the charge caused my hand and the knife to plunge deep into its stomach. In one hit, the goblin turned into a cloud of black smoke. I was the most surprised of anyone by that.

“Amazing…” (Sofia)

They all had stunned expressions.

Even their shocked faces are beautiful… how is that fair?

In my dazed state, I found myself thinking such foolish things. After all, I was the most surprised here.

“You’re really strong, aren’t you?” (Sofia)

The super-beautiful woman, presumably Sofia-san, spoke to me.

“…No, it was probably just a lucky hit.” (Kouta)

Though I stumbled over my words a little, I somehow managed to reply. There was a knife at my feet, likely dropped by the goblin from earlier. Seeing a good chance, I picked up the thread of conversation.

“Looks like I got lucky, this knife dropped. Here, take it.” (Kouta)

I held the knife out to her by the blade.

If I’m not careful, this might be considered kill-stealing and earn me a warning from the guild, so I have to make a show of compromise. As much as it pains me to give up those 5,000 yen… er, I mean ramen money… I feel like this goblin was rightfully theirs, so I offer it.
