The United Nations decided to officially refer to these creatures as “Monsters”, and the holes or entrances as “Dungeons”.

The dungeons appeared every year at 12:00 a.m. on January 1st, releasing monsters into the surroundings. At first, all the countries struggled to respond, but since it happened every year, they learned how to handle it, and the damage became limited. Then, various things were decided. This was what people commonly called the “Second-Year Resolution”.

During the first year when the dungeons appeared, the countries that had them were so busy they didn’t have time to bother with the United Nations, and the countries without them were noisy, trying to meddle for frontier rights and resources, so nothing could be decided. However, when the second year came, another ten dungeons appeared. It could no longer be dismissed as merely someone else’s problem, and support and discussions began to proceed smoothly. The term “Dungeon” was also decided at that time.

In Japan’s case, it was an abnormal situation where dungeons appeared every year despite it being a small island nation, so most of the year-end events were forced to either change their dates or be canceled altogether.

In the first year, it appeared in Ginza, Tokyo. In the second year, at the site of the Expo in Osaka. And in the third year, in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture.  Toyota City… yes, the Toyota City of that car company T○YOTA. The old T○YOTA headquarters used to be there, although they were supposed to have moved to Nagoya City by now.

For that reason, the first dungeon was called the Tokyo Dungeon, the second one the Osaka Dungeon, and the third the Nagoya Dungeon, which earned boos from the locals. The locals called it the Toyota Dungeon. Of course, I did too.

If they called it the Aichi Dungeon, maybe I could understand, but calling it the Nagoya Dungeon even though it’s in Toyota City. I absolutely refuse to accept that. Although, for foreign people, Nagoya is easier to understand… Well, it’s only about 30 or 40 minutes by car anyway. Even that mouse amusement park in Chiba has “Tokyo” in its name, so maybe it can’t be helped.

The place I planned to go was this Toyota Dungeon.

The prime minister of the time stepped down, citing health reasons, and a relative of former Prime Minister Asou became the new prime minister. So, once again, there was Prime Minister Asou.

Ono-sensei from social studies said it was an astonishing situation, that even nowadays there were politicians who would flee using health problems as an excuse just because it was obvious that whoever took command would be criticized later on. However, this Prime Minister Asou demonstrated an uncharacteristically skillful hand for a Japanese politician, accepting researchers and military forces from countries without dungeons, like the Netherlands and Germany, and that was how the current Toyota Dungeon came to be.

Toyota City, after all, was the home base of T○YOTA, so the city’s finances were rich. Because of that, the town was clean and public facilities were well-developed, which made land prices relatively high in the surrounding areas.

When a dungeon appeared in Toyota City and land prices crashed, the rich people fled one after another, and into that situation came the people from those countries.

They really pulled that off well.

Information was shared, and military strength was cooperated. Japan was happy to have the risk divided, and the other side was happy to gain knowledge and experience. They built exactly the kind of win-win relationship everyone talked about.

Thanks to that, the Toyota Dungeon where I would be going soon was full of foreign people.
