Chapter 5 “Fluffiness Lies Underground” Begins!

They brought quite a strange topic again.

This is not something I can answer on the spot. Well, I guess that’s the point. They want to explain it in detail, so for now, they are asking for time.

“An interesting proposal. I will listen to the details tomorrow morning. Is that alright?” (Elt)

“Yes, I apologize for the suddenness. I will explain thoroughly.” (Leia)

Leia returned to the group of adventurers.

Now, what should I do…?

I was nibbling on a strawberry and recalling the word Leia had mentioned, the Adventurer Guild.

The Adventurer Guild is a supranational organization. It is an organization to protect people from monsters and dungeons. I’m certain it has branches all over the world, and each country has a headquarters that oversees those branches. Above the national headquarters, there is a general headquarters, I believe, but that is a matter beyond reach. In any case, it is a global and enormous organization.

Furthermore, adventurers in this world are not just rough characters or failures. There is a proper selection exam, and becoming an adventurer is a kind of status. Nobles have privileged status because of their mana, but they are few in number. They cannot patrol territories, carry out exterminations, or dive into dungeons regularly. That much is common knowledge.

To establish a branch and have me as the branch chief… From a noble’s perspective, I do not quite understand it. I think Stella was listening to this conversation nearby… but I wonder what she thinks. Her knowledge might be outdated though.

That really was the early days. But certainly, what Stella says makes sense.

In my case, I have the name of a great noble family and mana backing me. Without those, I might feel threatened by the coming and going of adventurers. At the very least, any decent person would feel some danger. After all, professionals in combat are coming. Even in Japan, if armed people who are not police wander around, it causes anxiety even if they are useful.

In that sense, having influential people as Guild Masters would be mutually beneficial. Influential people get clear authority, and the Adventurer Guild is freed from unnecessary suspicion. The benefits of that smoothness are probably greater than I imagine. Law and political systems are at an early modern level. It’s not lawless, but comparing it with modern Earth is difficult.

“I heard Leia is a former adventurer. Is that unusual from Stella’s perspective?” (Elt)

“Yes. Only in Zansas is the dungeon discoverer an adventurer, so former adventurers have become Guild Masters there. Other than that… except for cases where adventurers settled and became influential, I don’t know. Mostly influential people were Guild Masters.” (Stella)

Wow… so it was rarer for adventurers to become guild masters. If it is still so, Leia’s proposal is not an unusual or risky idea. Rather, there might be a manual that says to make such proposals in new settlements… I even feel that way.

Marcosias and Dia suddenly came over. Looking at the party hall, it was a great excitement. About half the people were dancing. Maybe the alcohol helped too. The Cockatrice sisters were still dancing. Everyone looked happy.

“Tou-sama and Kaa-sama, will you join us, piyo?” (Dia)

…So cute. If stepping while holding Dia is possible, I should be able to do it too.

We were not drinking at the party, so we decided to go home. What we drank was pure grape juice. I didn’t want to get drunk in front of my daughter. Walking through the village at this late hour was rare. The night sky was sparkling like scattered jewels.

“Ugh… I danced too much…” (Stella)

“Ugo-ugo, are you okay?” (Wood)

“Sorry, I’m fine. My legs are just twitching…” (Stella)

Marcosias was being carried on Wood’s back. So, she was probably not really okay. Well, it was her first party. She didn’t apply the brakes and played to her limit. Marcosias was still like a child… or rather, mentally quite a child.

“Piyo… zzz… piyo…” (Dia)

Dia was dozing while held by Stella. She was probably tired too. If they enjoyed it that much, that’s what matters most.

“…About what we talked about earlier…” (Elt)

Since there was no one around, I decided to ask Stella. What happened when we defeated the Flower General? If something happened when we defeated the monster, it would probably be a skill. However, there shouldn’t have been a skill gained from defeating the Flower General. What could it mean?

“Yes, when I defeated the Flower General, a word just came to my mind. It felt the same as when I obtained the skill Cockatrice Tamer.” (Stella)

Titles existed in the game too. You could get them by defeating bosses appearing in events through special methods. All of those were high difficulty, and only top players could challenge them.

Moreover, there was no special effect from obtaining a title. In some events, the dialogue of characters might change slightly. Normally, like the village chief, they would say something like… “Oh, honored adventurer!”.  With the title [One Who Defeated the Tiger That Defied the Gods], the line changes to… “Oh, adventurer who defeated the fearsome White Tiger!”.

Honestly, it’s pretty subtle. Just a slight difference, noticeable only if compared side by side. In short, in the game it was handled only as a flag. Unlike skills, it had no connection to ability.

“Have you ever heard of other titles?” (Elt)

“No, I haven’t…” (Stella)

Well, that makes sense. This White Tiger could not be fought unless special conditions were met. Meeting a boss that grants a title is also troublesome.

I had completed all known titles too, but those were very few. For top players who had little else to do, titles were just a way to pass time. But to think the Flower General was a condition for a title… that’s the first time I heard that. Probably, it was not a known fact in the game.

Is it because we defeated it by reflecting bullets? That seems to be the only unknown way to defeat it. And the title “Holder of Ko-shi-en Qualification”. What is Ko-shi-en? I don’t know.

“What about Ko-shi-en… Do you recognize this word?” (Elt)

“No, I don’t. The closest thing I’ve heard from Elt-sama is Koshien.” (Stella)

“Yeah… Sorry, I don’t really understand either.” (Elt)

Stella tilted her head. I did the same.

The system aspects like magic, skills, and items are shared between this world and the game.
So, there probably isn’t any cause for concern. It was also an element with little meaning even inside the game.

It should not be related to other titles either. Of the titles I had… [One Who Defeated the Solar Dragon], [One Who Defeated the Swallow of the Ancient City], [One Who Defeated the Distant Giant], and many others. Yeah, there is no other title like “Holder of X Qualification”. They are all hunting titles.

For now, I’ll just not worry about it. If it feels related to baseball, it’s probably just my imagination…
