A Country That Did Not Exist a Hundred Years Ago

Several hours after leaving Barbara and heading north, the group approached what looked like an endless sea of sand. It was a desert. Located directly on the straight route from Barbara to the Beastkin Country, though not particularly large in size, it was inhabited by dangerous monsters, so many travelers avoided it. However, Leon’s group did not need to detour. The earthen ship operated by Meltera charged straight into the desert.

“Rather, it’s easier to run on sand, I tell you!” (Meltera)

Normally, speed should decrease on sand. But Meltera’s earthen ship moved along easily. Since it accelerated by moving the ground up and down, soft sandy terrain was probably more suitable.

However, the desert’s characteristic intense heat attacked Leon and the others. The ground, exposed to sunlight all day since morning without any shade, had been heated to an extreme temperature by noon. Even running while cutting through the wind, the heat was unbearable.

While Meltera wiped sweat, Silvia looked cool and calm.

Meltera ran the ice ship. Normally, it would gradually melt, but since Leon continuously cooled it with magic, it would maintain its form for a while.

As they continued running through the desert…

The twins sensed the approach of monsters and jumped up from the ice. But no sign of them appeared within sight.

“They’re underground.” (Leon)

The next moment, sand around them burst up like a fountain, and a giant sandworm emerged.
