You’re a Kid Too

(Thank you for reading at bayabuscotranslation.com)

That day, Leon came to the Adventurer Guild in Barbara. Due to the enormous food expenses, he had to earn money. As expected of a large city, the Adventurer Guild in Barbara was an impressive building. There seemed to be many adventurers based here, and inside the guild was bustling with many of them. Among them, there appeared to be adventurers not much older than Leon himself.

Just then, one of them approached Leon and the others.

“Are you an adventurer too? You’re still a kid.” (Boy Adventurer)

“You’re a kid too.” (Leon)

He was a boy, maybe about 12 or 13 years old at most. Looking at his equipment, he gave the impression of just being a novice. Even so, as if wanting to act like a senior toward Leon, the boy spoke with a triumphant tone.

“Hmph! Despite how I look, I’ll be promoted to E-rank soon!” (Boy Adventurer)

Considering his age, that might be relatively fast. However, E-rank is the second from the bottom. From Leon’s perspective, it was far below him. Unaware of that, the boy began to boast about his exploits.

“Just the other day, I fought an orc all by myself! When I landed a solid hit, it went completely berserk! It desperately chased me, but I’m confident in my legs! I totally outran it!” (Boy Adventurer)

“Huh? You didn’t defeat the orc?” (Leon)

He had assumed it was a story about soloing an orc, but it turned out to be about escaping. Leon wondered how the boy could tell such a story so confidently.

““…?”” (Arc/Iris)

The twins also tilted their heads, apparently puzzled. Maybe it was not just a regular orc, but a General Orc, or even a King Orc.

“D-Don’t be ridiculous! Only C-rank or higher experienced adventurers can solo an orc!” (Boy Adventurer)

“Well, even our twins can beat one on their own though…” (Leon)

The twins nodded in agreement.

““Yup yup.”” (Arc/Iris)

“Hahahahaha! Quit joking! There’s no way little brats like these can take down an orc!” (Boy Adventurer)

““We can!”” (Arc/Iris)

He laughed it off as a joke, which made the twins angry.

“No need to engage with him.” (Leon)

“Indeed. He’s just a noisy brat.” (Meltera)

“You’re a brat too!” (Boy Adventurer)

The boy snapped at Meltera.

“Kukuku, a brat, me? What you see with your eyes is not all there is. Being fooled by appearances proves you are the true child.” (Meltera)

“…!” (Boy Adventurer)

Meltera’s words, which sounded somewhat profound, caused the boy to hesitate slightly. Taking advantage of that moment, Leon headed to the reception window and called out to the receptionist.

“I’d like you to buy monster materials.” (Leon)

He had stored the materials of monsters defeated on the way to Barbara in his item box. Selling those should yield a decent profit.

“Understood. Where are the materials?” (Receptionist)

“They’re here.” (Leon)

Saying so, Leon took out a lizard-like bipedal monster, a Lizardman, from his item box. Its tough scales are useful for armor and are therefore valuable. Since the meat was not edible, only the scales had been removed.

“T-These are Red Lizardman scales! And these ones are from Poison Lizardmen…?” (Receptionist)

Apparently, some higher-ranked Lizardman species were mixed in.

“Are those higher variants?” (Leon)

“Not ‘are those’—they definitely are! These are monsters even upper-class adventurers struggle with. How did you possibly…?” (Receptionist)

“I just beat them normally, that’s all.” (Leon)

Leon had noticed some of the Lizardmen had different colors than usual, but since they were not particularly stronger, he had assumed it was just discoloration. For reference, Red Lizardmen could breathe fire from their mouths, and Poison Lizardmen had a poisonous stinger on the tip of their tail. However, both were instantly killed by Leon and the others before they could use those traits.

“Pardon me, but may I ask your adventurer rank…?” (Receptionist)

Leon showed his guild card.

“B-rank!?” (Receptionist)

The receptionist widened her eyes in shock.

“Lies! There’s no way someone like you is B-rank!” (Boy Adventurer)

The one who cut in was the boy adventurer from earlier.

“That must be a mistake—n-no way!?” (Boy Adventurer)

He had peeked at Leon’s guild card without permission and stared at it wide-eyed.

“N-No, that can’t be real! It must be a fake!” (Boy Adventurer)

Responding to the boy’s claim, the receptionist used a magic tool to check the card.

“This is… there’s no doubt. It’s genuine.” (Receptionist)

“W-What!? That can’t be right!” (Boy Adventurer)

“I’m sorry, but the magic tool is reacting correctly.” (Receptionist)

“T-Then, he must’ve stolen it from someone!” (Boy Adventurer)

“I can’t disclose the details due to confidentiality, but that is not possible either.” (Receptionist)

“N-No way…!” (Boy Adventurer)

Leon found him annoyingly loud.

Nearby adventurers had started to gather and watch, so Leon wished he would calm down.

“Shall I paralyze him?” (Silvia)

“Can you?” (Leon)

“With a child of this level, it’s quite easy!” (Silvia)

Saying that, Silvia slipped behind the boy and clung to him.

“There’s no way someone like him could be B-ra—wha!?” (Boy Adventurer)

“Oh, he’s quiet now.” (Leon)

“Fufufu! Controlling him a little is simple. Look.” (Silvia)

At Silvia’s will, the boy began performing a clumsy dance. It made them stand out even more, so Leon wished she would stop…

“This isn’t really paralysis anymore. It’s more like possession.” (Leon)

“Ah! If I use this method, I might be able to eat delicious food!” (Silvia)

Thinking she had come up with a brilliant idea, Silvia clapped her hands. The boy adventurer, in sync, clapped his hands as well.
