Your Fate has been Already Decided

The mass of mana thrown by the Demon boy struck the third barrier.

*Crack*

However, unlike before, the barrier endured with only a slight crack.

“Heh, so you’re at least trying a little now. But too bad, to me that’s within the margin of error.” (??)

The mass of mana, which had been held back by the barrier, increased in force. Then, a series of cracks ran across the barrier all at once.

*Shatter!*

At last, it was shattered into tiny pieces.

“N-No way… for the barrier to be broken so easily…” (Knight)

“It’s over…” (Knight)

The knights collapsed where they stood in despair, and the Demon boy burst into loud laughter at the sight.

“Ahahahaha! Are you in despair now, humans? But the real despair starts now!” (??)

When the Demon boy raised one hand, an anomaly occurred on the ground. The space distorted, and once again, Demons began to appear.

“What…” (Knight)

“What a number…!” (Knight)

Moreover, it was a horde far surpassing those seen before. There were not only low-ranking Demons but also a large number of high-ranking ones. Now that the barrier had been completely destroyed, there was no longer any means to stop their advance. At this rate, even the shrine district where the residents were evacuating would be overrun by the Demons.

“I see, so you used the ley lines around here to set up the barrier. But if that was the best strength you could get from that, the technique must have been poorly executed.” (Leon)

In the midst of this, with the barrier gone and the flow of mana in the surroundings changed, Leon sensed the massive current of mana flowing underground throughout this area. That was, the ley line.

“If I do this like this… alright, something like this should work.” (Leon)

Muttering to himself, Leon used the vast amount of mana from the ley line to cast a great spell.

“Rampart Barrier.” (Leon)

*Vwoooooooom!*

“…Huh?” (Marie)

“Eh?” (Knight)

“What…” (??)

Not only Saintess Marie and the knights, but even the Demon boy was struck dumb. The barrier, which should have been destroyed, was instantly reconstructed anew. Moreover, its strength was completely different from before.

“Ah, ahahahaha…! Even if you rebuilt the same thing, it’s meaningless! I’ll destroy it again in an instant!” (??)

Though his cheek twitched slightly, the Demon boy again threw a mass of mana. However, unlike before, the barrier was not destroyed or even scratched.

“What…!? That can’t be… damn it, all of you! Launch a full attack!” (Amaimon)

In response to the Demon boy’s command, the newly summoned Demons all attacked the barrier at once. But even so, it did not budge at all.

“What’s going on?! There’s no way a human could create such a sturdy barrier…!” (??)

“Sorry to interrupt your ranting, but you’re the commander of these Demons, aren’t you?” (Leon)

“…!?” (??)

The Demon boy flinched and hurriedly turned around. There stood Leon. Using wind magic, he floated in the air just like the Demon boy.

“W-When did you get there!?” (??)

“Just now. You should probably pay more attention to your surroundings.” (Leon)

“Shut up! Don’t talk big to me, you human child!” (??)

“You’re a child too.” (Leon)

That said, Demons are a species whose apparent age doesn’t necessarily match their true age. Though looking down on Leon, the Demon boy took a guarded stance and asked cautiously.

“Was it you who re-cast that barrier…?” (??)

“Yeah. This time I properly utilized the ley line’s mana while setting it up. It shouldn’t be so easy to destroy.” (Leon)

“You meddlesome brat… but whatever, you’re just delaying the inevitable. Now that I’ve come out here personally, your fate is already decided.” (??)

“I don’t think so.” (Leon)

“What?” (??)

“After all, it doesn’t seem like you can beat me.” (Leon)

“…Who do you think I am!?” (??)

“No idea.” (Leon)

Since he could command even high-ranking Demons, it could be guessed he was a famous Demon. However, Leon had no way of knowing more than that.

“Fu, fufufu! Then let me, the ever-magnanimous me, tell you, you foolish human who doesn’t know his place! My name is Amaimon! A titled Demon known as a prince of the Demon Realm!” (Amaimon)

“Huh.” (Leon)

Although he introduced himself grandly, Leon didn’t find it especially impressive. The Demon Realm was a world existing in a different plane from the one where Leon and the others lived. The Demons residing there seemed to have built some kind of society, but the details remained unclear.

“Y-You… what’s with that uninterested response! I’m a prince of the Demon Realm! I have a noble title! I’m strong, amazing, and important!” (Amaimon)

“Your poor vocabulary just makes it harder to feel any of that.” (Leon)

“…! It was a mistake to have introduced myself to a human! That’s enough! Die already!” (Amaimon)

The Demon boy shouted in fury and created masses of mana in both hands. Though pure mana before it becomes a spell lacks killing power on its own, gathering it in overwhelming quantities makes it a different matter. Naturally, the efficiency of the magic drops. However, Amaimon probably didn’t care about such losses, confident as he was in the sheer volume of his mana.

The Demon boy, Amaimon, hurled the two masses of mana directly at Leon.

“Magic Drain.” (Leon)

Leon decided to simply take in that mana. The masses of mana were absorbed into Leon and vanished.

“…Huh? You absorbed… my mana…?” (Amaimon)
