“Almost no effect, huh. Well, still, it doesn’t seem completely ineffective, so if I keep doing it, maybe I can purify her?” (Leon)

“Y-You’ve got to be kidding me!” (Ghost)

The ghost must have thought she couldn’t take any more of the holy light, so she flew toward the wall. She slipped through the wall and vanished somewhere.

“H-Hey! She ran away! What will you do!?” (Meltera)

“It’s fine. I’ll chase after her right awa–… huh?” (Leon)

Leon tried to detect the ghost’s presence immediately, but he could not sense anything like it nearby. Even when he expanded his detection range to the limit, the result was the same.

“I see now… since she’s a ghost, there’s no presence to detect in the first place.” (Leon)

With this, even Leon was at a loss.

“?” (Arc/Iris)

The twins sniffed with twitching noses and tilted their heads. They must have tried to track the ghost’s location by scent. But even with the keen sense of smell of beastkin, it was useless against a ghost that emits no odor.

“…I guess it can’t be helped.” (Leon)

They gave up on chasing the ghost and decided to go eat dinner at a nearby restaurant as originally planned.

“Shouldn’t you go back to your own room soon?” (Leon)

“N-No! I don’t want to! That room is scary!” (Meltera)

“She ran away, so she’s not there anymore.” (Leon)

“That’s not the point!” (Meltera)

Meltera was throwing a tantrum. Ever since they returned from dinner, she had stayed in Leon’s room and showed no intention of returning to her own.

“She wasn’t that scary of a ghost, was she?” (Leon)

“You don’t know that! She might have been acting to trick us!” (Meltera)

“Can a ghost really pull off something that clever…?” (Leon)

In short, she was afraid to sleep alone. The fact that the ghost had been in that room just earlier probably made it even worse.

“It can’t be helped… Sura, sleep with her.” (Leon)

‘Sure, sure.’ (Sura)

Sura waved her tentacles with an exasperated air. But even that didn’t seem to be enough to make Meltera feel safe.

“At least tonight, let me sleep with you!” (Meltera)

“Sorry, but this bed is for three people.” (Leon)

“Noooo! I wanna sleep here toooo!” (Meltera)

“Hey, it’s too hot and cramped…” (Leon)

Since Meltera absolutely refused to return to her room, they ended up sharing one bed between the four of them. Even though they were all children, it was still quite cramped.

“…Asleep, huh.” (Leon)

Once Leon confirmed that Meltera had fallen asleep, he gently lifted the already sleeping twins. They seemed to be in a deep sleep, showing no sign of waking.

“Alright, time to move to the next room. Sura, I’m counting on you.” (Leon)

‘Leave it to me.’ (Sura)

Leaving the sleeping Meltera in Sura’s care, Leon retreated to the next room.

“Why did you leave me aloooone!” (Meltera)

The next morning, Meltera burst into the room where Leon and the others were sleeping, shouting in anger. Leon frowned at the early-morning noise as he sat up in bed.

“The ghost wasn’t in that room, right? And I even left Sura there.” (Leon)

“That doesn’t make it okay!” (Meltera)

Maybe because of her shouting, the twins stirred and stretched their bodies.

“Morning?” (Arc/Iris)

“It’s morning.” (Leon)

“Yaaawn…” (Arc/Iris)

They let out a big yawn. Neither seemed to realize the room had changed.

“Hm?” (Leon)

At that moment, Leon noticed something. A human upper body was hanging upside down from the ceiling.

“That’s scary…” (Leon)

Even Leon found himself murmuring that aloud.

“What are you doing up there?” (Leon)

“Eh? You can see me even though it’s morning!?” (Ghost)

It was the same ghost from the night before. She was apparently floating upside down, sticking just her upper body through the ceiling.

“Now that you mention it, I really can see you clearly.” (Leon)

“Then, that means I’m not a ghost after all…?” (Ghost)

“There’s no way a living human could do something like that.” (Leon)

“Wait, isn’t your tone different from yesterday?” (Ghost)

Leon thought pretending to be a child around a ghost was just too much trouble now.

“H-Hey, who are you talking to…?” (Meltera)

“Huh? You don’t see her?” (Leon)

“All I can see is the ceiling…” (Meltera)

Leon looked at the twins. They tilted their heads in confusion. It seemed they also couldn’t see the ghost.

“Well, actually, that’s convenient. It means I can purify her during the day. Holy Cross.” (Leon)

“Dash!” (Ghost)

“Hm? She disappeared?” (Leon)

The holy light hit the ceiling and dispersed.

“Heh heh heh! I’m not the type to fall for the same trick twice!” (Ghost)

The voice came from the ceiling. She must have used her ghost nature to hide behind a solid object and avoid the spell.

“Hmm… this is going to make exorcising her even harder.” (Leon)

“Please stop trying to exorcise me without permission! I’m not a bad ghost!” (Ghost)

“Still, the inn is having a hard time because of you.” (Leon)

“What?” (Ghost)

“Rumors that there’s a ghost here have spread, and no customers are coming.” (Leon)

“N-No way…” (Ghost)

Realizing that she had been troubling people, the ghost was visibly shocked. She really didn’t seem like a bad ghost.

“Holy Cross.” (Leon)

“Gyah!? W-Wait! That wasn’t the vibe just now, was it!?” (Ghost)
