I’m Already Healed

The distance was approximately one kilometer. A single bullet was fired from behind a rock. Its target was the young man who had exited the carriage. With perfect precision, the bullet flew straight for his head. The assassin was certain from the moment he fired that he had taken the young man’s life.

(The mission is complete. For someone like me with the Class II Job [Sniper], this much is easy. Now those bandits will take the blame and—) (Assassin)

Just as he was about to leave, he witnessed something unbelievable.

“…What?” (Assassin)

The boy who had appeared earlier extended his arm and blocked the bullet.

(No way…? Could that brat actually see the bullet I fired…?) (Assassin)

Moreover, the boy only showed a slight reaction as if it hurt. At this distance, the bullet should have easily pierced through steel plating. Ordinarily, an arm would be blown off, yet his arm appeared intact. Immediately after, the boy turned toward him.

“…!?” (Assassin)

Their eyes met or so it felt and the assassin’s shoulders jolted. He tried to convince himself it was just a coincidence, but his heart kept pounding. Then, the boy started running toward him. There was no mistake. He had been discovered.

“W-what is that brat!?” (Assassin)

He already understood from watching earlier that the boy possessed extraordinary strength, enough to dismiss the bandit leader without effort. Jobs of the marksman type were not suited for close combat. If the distance was closed, defeat was inevitable. However, he absolutely could not be captured.

The bandits were unaware of the true objective, but he had been hired by a certain individual. If he were taken alive, he would certainly be eliminated to cover up the incident. He immediately made a move to escape.

Though confident in his shooting skills, he never forgot to be cautious. He had anticipated such worst-case scenarios and chosen a sniping location with a forest immediately behind it. He jumped into the densely wooded forest. Naturally, he did not leave any tracks that would allow pursuit. In fact, to throw off his pursuer, he deliberately stepped on grass in the opposite direction.

“Running is pointless.” (Leon)

“…!?” (Assassin)

He froze.

From the distance alone, he estimated he had at least ten seconds of lead time. But when he fearfully turned around, the boy was standing right in front of him.

“If you move any closer, I’ll shoo—” (Assassin)

Before he could even point the muzzle, the boy’s figure vanished. A violent impact struck his abdomen. Before he knew it, the boy was right in front of him, his fist buried in the assassin’s solar plexus.

“Guh…” (Assassin)

The man lost consciousness and collapsed on the spot. When Leon returned with the captured sniper, everyone was dumbfounded. The young man Leon had protected was the first to come to his senses and spoke up nervously.

“Could it be… you noticed that attack from such a distance?” (Young Man)

“Huh? Yeah, I did.” (Leon)

“Incredible… M-more importantly, are you injured?” (Young Man)

“I’m fine. I’m already healed.” (Leon)

Leon’s hand, which had blocked the deadly bullet, showed no sign of injury. He had used healing magic to recover while closing the distance to the sniper.

“…A-anyway, you really saved us. I sincerely thank you. Due to certain circumstances, I cannot reveal my name here, but I promise to pay your reward through the Adventurer Guild.” (Young Man)

The look in the young man’s eyes was not a lie. He truly could not say his name. He was likely a noble traveling in secret. Leon preferred not to be too involved with nobles, so the fact that it would be handled through the Guild was more than welcome.

“Still, you probably won’t believe me just by saying that.” (Young Man)

“I don’t particularly doubt it.” (Leon)

“Huh? …No, you really shouldn’t trust people that easily.” (Young Man)

He scolded him in a firm tone.

Leon, having mastered the thief-type Job, could detect lies and judge others’ trustworthiness even on first meeting. But the young man had no way of knowing that. From his perspective, Leon, despite his abilities, probably seemed like a naive child. He feared that Leon might be deceived by a malicious adult in the future.

“That’s why, here’s an advance payment.” (Young Man)

At the young man’s signal, another man, who had already prepared for this, handed Leon a pouch.

“This is all we had on hand at the moment.” (Man)

Despite his words, the pouch was filled with gold coins.

“This much? I mean, this is more than enough though…” (Leon)

“What you did deserves far more than this. Not only did you wipe out the bandits, but you also healed our people and protected me with your own body. If you had not happened to pass by, we would all be dead by now.” (Young Man)

With that much said, Leon had no reason to refuse.

(He sure has a lot of money. Maybe he’s not just any noble, but a high-ranking one.)

Thinking that, Leon accepted the payment.

“So, what about these people?” (Leon)

“Of course we plan to take them into custody. But moving them all at once may be difficult.” (Young Man)

“Is that so? Then, I’ll carry them.” (Leon)

“No, you don’t have a carriage, right?” (Young Man)

“I have a ship.” (Leon)

Saying so, Leon used earth magic to construct a ship. He made it slightly larger to accommodate the bandits.

“A ship!?” (Men)

Though they had seen Leon arrive on a ship earlier, they never imagined he would conjure one right before their eyes. Leon and the twins began tossing the unconscious bandits into the ship one by one. Once everyone except the sniper and the bandit leader was loaded, they jumped aboard themselves.

“Well then, we’ll be going.” (Leon)

Leaving the stunned onlookers behind, Leon set the ship in motion.

“…A-are we dreaming?” (Man)

“…Unfortunately, it hurts when I pinch myself.” (Man)
