Reverse

A messenger rushes into Rishu’s headquarters.

“Rishu-sama! The enemy is attacking!!” (Messenger)

“Oh no…” (Rishu)

Despite the unexpected attack, Rishu herself remains surprisingly calm. However, her subordinates are in a complete panic.

“Ridiculous! Why are enemy soldiers here in this position?!” (Subordinate)

“Has General Randal been defeated?!” (Subordinate)

“But we haven’t received any information about General Randal’s defeat.” (Subordinate)

It was only natural for them to be shaken. The enemy forces should have been held back by Randal. Yet, the fact that enemies were now here suggested that Randal may have been defeated.

“Focus on holding off the enemy’s attack for now.” (Rishu)

Rishu calmly reassured her subordinates, then started gathering information.

“Who is the enemy commander?” (Rishu) ”

According to the flag, it’s Jeanne.” (Subordinate)

“I see.” (Rishu)

Rishu fell silent for a moment to think. While she remained composed even in an emergency, the anxiety among her subordinates increased.

“Prepare the defense immediately. Contact Arc-sama as well.” (Rishu)

“Yes!” (Subordinate)

After a moment of careful consideration, Rishu gave a normal order. Her subordinates, though uncertain about her abilities, dispersed to follow her instructions.

“Reporting!” (Messenger)

A messenger arrived to Randal and Renoir, who were advancing through the back route.

“General Jeanne has launched an attack on Rishu’s position. It seems a chaotic battle is underway.” (Messenger)

“Good.” (Renoir)

Upon hearing this report, Renoir raised his fist in victory. First, Jeanne had successfully pinned down Rishu, who was the main force. Now, even if they launched a surprise attack on Arc, there would be no soldiers left to protect him. This operation could be considered half successful.

“Rishu must have been quite surprised to see enemy soldiers appear so suddenly.” (Randal)

Randal smiled smugly.

“General Jeanne has successfully drawn the enemy’s main force. We must hurry through this path and launch a surprise attack on Arc.” (Renoir)

Randal nodded firmly at Renoir’s words.

“Laika should be waiting up ahead.” (Randal)

“Still, this is a narrow path.” (Renoir)

Renoir said as he looked up at the walls on both sides.

This back route was a narrow path flanked by towering walls. The width was just enough for a carriage to barely pass by. The soldiers following behind continued to march in single file along the narrow path.

“Right? That’s why Arc probably doesn’t even consider this route. He never dreamed that the enemy would come through here.” (Randal)

This was the route where Laika had been stationed, just in case. Arc would never suspect that she would betray him. Randal spoke casually.

“This battle… We’ve won.” (Randal)

Renoir, confident in his own contribution, grinned smugly.

“Ugh!” (Soldier) “Ahh!” (Soldier)

While Renoir was lost in thoughts about the rewards and honors he would receive after their victory, he was suddenly yanked back into reality. Screams from the rear of the formation echoed out.

“What’s going on? What’s all this noise?!” (Randal)

Turning around in confusion, a pale-faced subordinate reported loudly to Renoir.

“General Renoir! The enemy has set an ambush!” (Subordinate)

“An ambush?!” (Renoir)

“We’re being showered with arrows from the cliffs on both sides. We’ve been outwitted!” (Subordinate)

Renoir looked toward the rear. Sure enough, there were numerous archers positioned on top of both walls, and countless arrows were raining down. The ones firing the arrows were the soldiers of Laika, who had been informed that she would be betraying Randal.

This is a trap…!

“Randal!!!” (Renoir)

Renoir was furious. Drawing his sword in anger, he turned around, ready to strike the man who had betrayed him. However, Randal was no longer there. Only the horse he had been riding stood alone.

“Renoir. Look up.” (Randal)

Suddenly, a voice called down from above. Randal had somehow climbed up the rope that had been lowered from the cliffs and was now standing on the wall. Around him, numerous soldiers, including Laika, were standing ready with bows, waiting for orders. Renoir, seeing him atop the cliff, shouted his anger loudly.

“Randal! Was this your plan? You tricked me with a false surrender and lured me into this place!” (Renoir)

“…” (Randal)

“Answer me, Randal… gah!” (Renoir)

Ignoring Renoir’s incessant accusations, a dagger suddenly plunged into Renoir’s forehead. It was Laika who threw it in place of her brother’s response. Renoir, not realizing that he had been fatally struck, fell from his horse in an instant.

“Indeed, it’s true that my relationship with Arc Warden has been somewhat strained. But who would ever side with someone like Casablanca?” (Randal)

Randal spat out his true feelings toward the corpse of Renoir. Then, raising his sword high, he gave the order to the archers who were waiting for commands.

“Fire!” (Randal)

At those words, arrows rained down all at once. The soldiers of Laplace, having lost Renoir, collapsed in disarray. Trying to avoid the arrows and flee, they were unable to move due to the narrow path.

“Move!” (Soldier)

“Hurry up!” (Soldier)

The voices of the soldiers unable to escape echoed in the air. The edges of the path quickly filled with bodies, and the soldiers, with no way to escape, fell one after another.

“Now! Let’s take Casablanca’s head!” (Randal)

Once he was sure that most of the enemy soldiers had been defeated, Randal pointed his sword north. He, then, began marching toward the main camp where Casablanca was waiting.
