I Leave Those Guys to You

Leon’s next destination, Sedria, was a city rich in nature. It might even be said that it was integrated with nature.
It was located beside a large lake in the middle of a forest, and the majority of its residents were elves skilled in archery and magic. One hundred years ago, it had been a completely independent elven city, but currently, it had apparently become part of the Stea Kingdom, to which Badacca and Libert also belonged. However, it was a highly autonomous territory, and even now, an elven king reigned as the lord.
Nowadays, trade with other cities had become active, and particularly, rare plants and nuts that could only be gathered from the surrounding forests were traded at high prices among merchants as Sedria’s specialty products.
Leon and his group had arrived at the forest where Sedria was located. A highway, which had not existed a hundred years ago, now ran straight through the forest, and they decided to make use of it. Along the highway, there were elven warriors patrolling, perhaps for security.
A hundred years ago, they were so exclusive and hardly interacted with humans at all. And now they have even built such a properly maintained road.
While thinking about such things as he walked along the highway, Leon sensed something. About three kilometers off the highway, deeper into the forest. There, multiple presences were mixed together.
Judging from the reaction, humans and monsters were mingling. They might be in the middle of a battle with monsters. The two large sources of magic power both belonged to monsters, and it seemed that the human side was struggling.
“Shall we go take a look?” (Leon)
“Yeah.” (Arc/Iris)
Leon, accompanied by the twins, entered the forest. They dashed through the dense trees and, in no time, arrived at their destination. As Leon had predicted, humans were fighting monsters. They were elves. Their number was around 20.
On the other side, their opponents were monsters called Trents, humanoid trees, numbering 15. And leading them was a single Elder Trent.
An Elder Trent was said to be a monster that a Trent would evolve into after living for several centuries. It was a giant tree easily exceeding ten meters in height, with abnormally thick roots and trunk, and every swing of its branches carried the power of a massive club. However, while Trents could move by writhing their roots like legs, their speed was extremely slow. If one kept a sufficient distance, it would be easy to avoid their branch attacks.
However, the elves’ fire magic and arrows were being struck down by the swinging branches of the Trents, and hardly any attacks were reaching the trunks. As a result, the battle had fallen into a near-stalemate.
Among them, there was one female elf who alone was reliably landing arrows on the trunks of the Trents. The powerful arrows she unleashed were so fast that they slipped through the gaps between the swinging branches. Moreover, the arrows were wreathed in flames, and once they pierced the trunk, the fire would spread from there.
“Fire them as simultaneously as possible! If we do that, they won’t be able to block all of them!” (Female Elf)
The female elf, who carried an air of nobility beyond that of the others, was apparently the leader of the group, and she encouraged her companions with a strong tone.
Responding to her command, the elves began to coordinate the timing of their magic and arrows, and gradually, more attacks started to land on the Trents’ trunks.
At this rate, it seemed that the elves would achieve victory. It was at that moment.
“OAAAAAAAH!” (Forest Dragon)
“!?” (Elves)
Suddenly, from behind the elves, a Forest Dragon attacked. Apparently, because they had been concentrating on the Trents, their vigilance toward the rear had grown lax.
A Forest Dragon was a dragon that had trees and grasses growing on its back. Normally, it was a herbivorous and docile dragon, but it favored Trents as its prey. Perhaps because of that, it seemed enraged at the elves who were trying to defeat the Trents.
With the sudden appearance of this new threat, the elves’ formation was broken. Several of them retreated in an attempt to escape, but as a result, they strayed into the Trents’ attack range.
“Ahh!?” (Elf)
“Gah!” (Elf)
The elves were struck by the Trent’s branch attacks and fell.
“Tch, at a time like this…! Do not panic! I will draw the Forest Dragon’s attention! Regroup while I do!” (Female Elf)
The leader elf raised her voice like that, then turned her back to the Trents and drew the sword from her waist. However, at that moment…
As if it had been waiting for a chance when she showed an opening, the Elder Trent spat something out from the hollow of its trunk.
It was a seed. It was about the size of a human head. Moreover, it was pointed like an acorn and spinning at a tremendous speed. It closed in on her at a speed rivaling that of an arrow. If it hit her directly, she would likely not survive it.
“Filia-sama!?” (Elves)
The elves’ screams overlapped, and by the time she noticed it, it was already too late.
When she turned around, it was at a distance where dodging was no longer possible.
*ZAN!*
“!?” (Filiya)
However, the seed split in two just before impact. It passed by on either side of her and pierced the body of the Forest Dragon behind her.
“Gyaaaah!?” (Forest Dragon)
The Forest Dragon let out a scream as it was struck by the unexpected stray shot.
“Are you okay?” (Leon)
“A c-child…?” (Filia)
The one who had cut the seed was Leon. Appearing suddenly before her and performing an incredible feat, the elf leader could hardly believe her eyes at the sight of the boy. Ignoring her reaction, Leon gave an order to the twins.
“Arc, Iris. I leave those guys to you.” (Leon)
“Yeah!” (Arc/Iris)
Immediately afterward, beastkin children appeared from seemingly nowhere, surprising the elves. Moreover, the children charged straight toward the group of Trents, causing the elves to let out screams without thinking.
“Watch out!” (Elves)
