When the adventurers returned to the city, they immediately reported to the Adventurers’ Guild.
Due to the nature of the situation, it was a direct report to the Guildmaster.
“I-Is that really true?” (Dinba)
“Yes. There is no mistake.” (Henriette)
Henriette answered on behalf of the group to Dinba, the Guildmaster, who looked as if he could not believe it.
“But no one should have ever encountered a vampire, right? Isn’t it possible you mistook them for some other monster? Like a succubus or something… I mean, succubi also have the power to manipulate people, don’t they?” (Dinba)
“That is not the case. A succubus would not possess that level of combat ability, and more than anything, they themselves identified as vampires. Besides, succubi are only female.” (Henriette)
“My apologies, I meant incubi. Uh… maybe they were just putting on airs, calling themselves vampires or something?” (Dinba)
Perhaps unable to accept the reality, Dinba suggested some absurd ideas. Seeing this, the receptionist Maria, who was present, interjected.
“Guildmaster, please acknowledge this quickly. Wasting time like this is pointless.” (Maria)
“‘Wasting time’ you say…” (Dinba)
Perhaps finally coming to terms with the situation, Dinba straightened his posture.
“However, the vampires have already been dealt with thanks to your efforts, right? That means the kidnappings will no longer occur. Yes, all’s well that ends well.” (Dinba)
“There’s no way that’s true.” (Maria)
Maria glared coldly at her superior.
Henriette explained.
“It’s hard to believe that those were the only vampires.” (Henriette)
“There were only some of the kidnapped people there. It’s more natural to think they have other bases, where the rest are being kept.” (Adventurer)
The fact that they were carefully operating such as manipulating gang members to abduct people or concealing the fort, suggested that they were acting with caution. Even if they had established multiple bases as a contingency, it wouldn’t be strange.
“If we’re unlucky, there may be far more people who have been abducted than what’s been reported.” (Adventurer)
Naturally, the number of reported cases was just a portion of the whole. In a city with such a large population, there must have been some people who were kidnapped without anyone knowing. Fortunately or perhaps unfortunately, vampires, also known as bloodsuckers, were fond of human blood. Therefore, it was unlikely that the victims would be killed immediately. But the greatest issue was that vampires gained strength by drinking human blood and eventually evolved.
“If there are even evolved vampires…” (Adventurer)
Imagining the worst-case scenario, the adventurers turned pale. Even Dinba, the Guildmaster, finally seemed to grasp the severity of the situation.
“I-I’ll report this matter to the lord immediately.” (Dinba)
“If that’s the case, allow me to inform him. I think that would be quicker.” (Henriette)
“That would be a great help, Henriette-kun. I’ll leave it to you then.” (Dinba)

After the report at the guild. For the time being, until the future course of action was decided, the upper-ranked adventurers were dismissed.
“They probably already know that one of their bases was destroyed. I wonder how they’ll respond.” (Leon)
At this stage, nothing was known about the full scale of the vampires’ forces. Leon could only wait to see how the enemy would move.
“Ah, welcome back, newbie adventurer-kun!” (Ruluca)
When Leon returned to the inn where he always stayed, a girl with a cute smile greeted him. She was the daughter of the inn, named Ruluca. Her age seemed to be one or two years older than Leon’s current age.
“What kind of work did you do today?” (Ruluca)
“To put it simply, I was investigating a kidnapping case. We found the perpetrators’ base and stormed it.” (Leon)
“Fufufu, good for you. You’re already a proper adventurer.” (Ruluca)
Ruluca smiled and praised Leon, but in truth, she was thinking,
There he goes making things up again. He’s so cute. Sure, I do believe he’s really an adventurer, but the jobs he’s probably doing are things like gathering medicinal herbs, or searching for lost people or pets, stuff like that.
Having helped her parents deal with adult customers since she was little, she could easily see through the lies of a younger boy. But even though she knew, she wouldn’t say anything tactless. To avoid hurting the small pride of the boy, the mature Ruluca simply smiled and accepted it.
“That’s amazing. Someday, you’ll surely become a hero like Hero Leon!” (Ruluca)
…Of course, she had no idea that the boy in front of her was that very hero, and that he had not told a single lie. At that moment, Ruluca’s sleeve was tugged lightly. When she looked, the beastkin twins who were accompanying the boy were gazing up at her with faces that seemed to be trying to say something.
“Oh? The usual again?” (Ruluca)
“Mm.” (Arc/Iris)
“Fufufu, you really love it, huh? Just wait a moment.” (Ruluca)
Saying that, Ruluca ran to the back of the inn. When she returned, she had a book in her hands.
“Here you go.” (Ruluca)
“Ah!” (Arc/Iris)
The twins received the book from Ruluca and looked very pleased.
“Make sure to return it to the counter later, okay?” (Ruluca)
“Yeah, thank you.” (Leon)
Leon expressed his gratitude and headed to the room where he always stayed. As soon as they entered the room, the twins immediately begged him to read the book.
“You like it that much?” (Leon)
“Yeah!” (Arc/Iris)
‘Noh!’ (Sura)
“Even Sura too, huh.” (Leon)
The twins plopped down lightly on Leon’s thighs as he sat on the bed. Of course, Sura took her usual spot on top of his head. Leon placed the book they had just received between the two of them.
It was a picture book for children. The twins happily pointed to the title.
“Leon!” (Arc/Iris)
“The Adventures of Hero Leon.”
Yes, it was a picture book that depicted the story of Leon’s previous life. He had never told the twins about his previous life, and they likely liked it simply because it had the same name.
“Looks like him.” (Arc/Iris)
Yet they pointed to the drawing of the hero in the book and said that. Since his current body was completely different, it honestly looked nothing like him, and even he himself could only tilt his head and think, “Does it?”
In any case, Leon began reading the book aloud for the twins, who still could not read very well.
Since it was essentially his autobiography, it gave him a strange feeling. More than anything, the book was filled with words that praised the hero excessively. Reading that aloud himself was quite embarrassing.
“So exciting!” (Arc/Iris)
Still, since the twins were enjoying it, he endured the embarrassment and continued reading.
Some parts of the story are different.
That was probably because the author had imagined and added parts.
For example, the origin story. According to the book, he was carried by an angel as a baby and delivered to a noble couple from a prestigious family, but in reality, that was not true. The Leon of his previous life had been born in a poor village in the countryside. Of course, no angel ever carried him anywhere.
“And so, at last, Hero Leon reached the Demon King. The Demon King had a terrifying appearance. The head of a lion, the body of a bear, and a tail that was a giant snake.” (Leon)
“Shiver shiver.” (Arc/Iris)
He wasn’t some kind of chimera though. His appearance was human… well, since he was large, maybe more like a giant.
Only Leon, the hero, had seen the Demon King, so this part must also have been based on imagination.
“After a fierce battle, the hero finally defeated the Demon King, and peace returned to the world. The end.” (Leon)
“You did it!” (Arc)
“Amazing!” (Iris)
Since finding out about this picture book from Ruluca, reading it had become a nightly routine. Even though they had read it many times, the twins still clapped their small hands with sparkling eyes when the story ended.
‘Leon, you’re strong!’ (Sura)
Sura also flapped her two tentacles on top of his head, making soft slapping sounds.
“Alright, it’s about time to get some rest.” (Leon)
“Mm.” (Arc/Iris)
—
In a place shrouded in pitch-black darkness, several figures stood.
In this darkness, it would be impossible to see with human eyes, but on their backs were wings like those of bats. Their skin was pale, and their eyes were blood-red.
They were vampires. But not ordinary vampires. These were higher-level species that had evolved by drinking human blood. They were Arch Vampires.
These beings exchanged words.
“One of our bases has been discovered by the humans?” (Vampire 1)
“But, this is actually quite convenient.” (Vampire 2)
“Indeed. The schedule has only advanced a little.” (Vampire 3)
“Yes, we have already gained sufficient strength.” (Vampire 4)
“The time has come.” (Vampire 5)
“The revival of our king, the Lord, ruler of the night—” (Vampire 6)
“Now then, let us begin the nocturnal banquet.” (All Vampires)
