If I go in alone again, I’ll probably get scolded again

Two men were following a young man. The men were chatting and pretending to be ordinary pedestrians, but they were clearly observing the young man’s behavior.
Eventually, when the young man entered a deserted alley…
The two men quickly approached him and covered his mouth from behind with something like a cloth.
“!?” (??)
The young man tried to resist but soon lost consciousness.
They must have soaked the cloth with some kind of sleeping drug. Those two are quite experienced.
While secretly observing the scene, Leon was analyzing the situation.
Of course, he was concealing his presence using stealth skill.
“Both of you are hiding properly.” (Leon)
“Mm.” (Arc/Iris)
Arc and Iris, who were with him, were also using the stealth skill on their own. Not just for this request, but because it is a convenient skill in many situations, he had taught it to the two of them in advance. That said, they had mastered it quickly just from being taught a few tricks. Perhaps because they possess the traits of the cat-people race, they are naturally suited for stealth-type skills.
Unaware that they were being watched, the two men stuffed the now unconscious young man into a large burlap sack and began carrying it away with nonchalant expressions. Looking closely, the two men were dressed like merchants. With that appearance, it would only look like merchants transporting goods in a sack.
Leon followed after the two men. Their destination turned out to be a carriage, where the two men loaded the sack containing the young man onto the cargo bed. Looking closely, several other similar burlap sacks were already loaded. There might be other kidnapped people inside them as well.
One of the men got on the driver’s seat, and the carriage departed. They headed toward the city’s main gate. It seemed they were planning to leave the city while pretending to be merchants. However, with the recent surge in kidnapping incidents, cargo was being strictly inspected when entering or leaving the city. Naturally, those burlap sacks should be checked, and if so, they would be easily discovered.
“That’s strange.” (Leon)
Contrary to Leon’s expectation, the two men were easily allowed through the gate. He approached the official who had granted them passage and checked his face just in case.
“…?” (Leon)
Leon felt something was off, but he quickly resumed his pursuit of the two men.
After leaving the city, the two followed the road for about an hour before veering sharply into the forest. It appeared their hideout was located in the forest. Eventually, what came into view was a rather old structure. It seemed to be a fortress, likely used in a much earlier era. The two men got off the carriage and carried the cargo into the building. This was definitely their base of operations.
“…If I go in alone again, I’ll probably get scolded again. I guess I’ll report back to the guild first.” (Leon)
Judging this to be the best course of action, Leon left the scene.
—
Leon had returned to the forest, this time bringing adventurers with him. There were about twenty people in total, including Henriette and the others. He guided them toward the kidnappers’ hideout.
“Is there really something out here?” (Griss)
“Yeah, no doubt about it. We’re almost there.” (Leon)
Before long, they arrived at the same fortress.
“This is the place.” (Leon)
“Hah, there’s nothing here.” (Griss)
Griss snorted.
What he saw was just an open clearing.
“Yeah, it’s concealed by a barrier. You wouldn’t be able to tell just by looking.” (Leon)
“…A barrier? I don’t feel any mana at all…” (Adventurer)
“There’s no sign of a building either.” (Adventurer)
It was the magicians and thieves who furrowed their brows. Normally, barriers were accompanied by mana, so a powerful magician would be able to sense it. Even if it was concealed, someone with strong detection abilities would be able to see through it.
“Really? Sure, it’s a fairly advanced barrier, but something like this should be easy to notice, right?” (Leon)
Leon tilted his head curiously.
“Hmph, looks like we’ve been completely tricked by this brat. Thought he’d claim he found the hideout just to make a name for himself, but now he can’t back down.” (Griss)
Griss spat the words out as he walked forward.
“Ah, wait—” (Leon)
“See, there’s nothing he—whoa!?” (Griss)
Leon tried to stop him, but it was too late.
Griss had passed right through the barrier and disappeared from sight.
“He vanished…?” (Adventurer)
“Don’t tell me it’s actually real…?” (Adventurer)
As the adventurers stood stunned, Griss came rushing back from beyond the barrier in a panic.
“This is bad! They noticed us!” (Griss)
Immediately after, an arrow flew from inside the barrier and struck the ground right beside Griss.
“Well yeah, of course it’s set up so that they’ll detect any intruders who pass through the barrier. That’s why we need to deactivate it first.” (Leon)
Leon spoke with a sigh, as if it was just common sense.
Fighting an opponent holed up in a fortress would be difficult, but there was no choice now. With the barrier active, they couldn’t see the enemy’s attacks, so even though it was late, they decided to destroy the barrier first. Since there was no longer any need to remain stealthy, that part at least was easier.
“Cyclone.” (Leon)
A massive tornado formed, dispersing the mana that had been maintaining the barrier. The old fortress was soon revealed.
“I-it was really there!?” (Adventurer)
“Wait, didn’t he just cast an advanced spell without chanting!?” (Adventurer)
“This is not the time to be worrying about that! Let’s go!” (Henriette)
Henriette scolded the surprised group and charged toward the fortress.
The other adventurers followed after her.
