Final Moments

The great army of Kali, led by King Rudolf, launched fierce attacks day and night. However, the narrow path where Tyr had entrenched himself did not fall, even after several days, let alone a few hours.

“It’s been three days since we started the full-scale attack!” (Rudolf)

Even King Rudolf, who was usually calm, raised his voice in frustration.

“Why can’t we defeat an enemy army of only around 200 men!” (Rudolf)

At first, King Rudolf had praised Tyr’s valiant efforts, but now, due to Tyr and his men’s unexpected resistance, he had completely lost his composure.

An officer analyzing the situation spoke.

“Your Majesty. Tyr has set up his camp in a mountain gorge, surrounded on both sides by sheer cliffs. Therefore, our numerical advantage cannot be fully utilized.” (Officer)

Tyr had set up his camp in a narrow path between two mountains. Due to the poor terrain, cavalry could not be used. When attacking with a large army, large stones would roll down at them. With a smaller number of soldiers, the difference in quality was incomparable. It was Tyr, who was supposed to be cornered, who was controlling the battlefield. Rudolf, no longer feeling hatred or admiration, began to feel a chill.

“Tyr. To find a defensible terrain in an unfamiliar land and immediately set up defenses… as expected, he is an extraordinary general. He must not be allowed to return alive. He will be dealt with here.” (Rudolf)

Rudolf made his decision.

“No matter how many sacrifices it takes, we have a 30,000-strong army. Keep sending the soldiers to attack!” (Rudolf)

He would not hold back his military strength. Tyr had decided to stay and fight, so the idea of defeating him with minimal casualties was a mistaken one.

“If the soldiers are hesitant because the ones before them were defeated, kill them! If the commander orders a retreat because the unit is about to be wiped out, kill them! Listen! From the moment this order is given, all soldiers, including myself, are forbidden from retreating. Anyone who steps even one step away from Tyr will be killed.” (Rudolf)

Meanwhile, the number of survivors in Tyr’s death squad was less than 100. Including Tyr, they were all so injured and exhausted that they could barely stand, and they were now fighting purely on willpower. As they rested for a moment when the enemy pulled back, the ground suddenly shook.
The tremors were unlike anything they had experienced before. When Tyr heard the sound, he murmured with a smile, as if he had been waiting for someone, looking somewhat pleased.

“So, they’ve finally come with their entire army to finish me off. Even Rudolf, who seems so confident in his intelligence, has apparently figured it out in the end. ‘This is where we should charge with brute force,’ he must have thought.” (Tyr)

“Boss, the full-scale attack is coming. A wave of people as far as the eye can see.” (Atlas)

Atlas, who was also covered in blood, reported cheerfully. When Tyr squinted to look, a massive army was rushing toward them, covering the ground.

“All of them are coming toward us, right? Incredible.” (Tyr)

Ohhh!

The enemy’s roar could faintly be heard. And that sound gradually grew louder and closer.

“Heh heh heh. I’ve got no more arrows to shoot. My sword is dull from cutting through enemy blood.” (Tyr)

Ooooooh!

The enemy’s voices were getting closer and closer. An arrow suddenly struck near them. Tyr said briefly to the remaining mercenaries.

“I see. Mercenaries, you are my final comrades. I am proud to have fought alongside you. If we are reincarnated, let’s fight together again!” (Tyr)

Ooooooooooooooooh!

In the end, their voices were drowned out by the roar of the thousands of Kali soldiers charging in. Thus, the mere 100 men were engulfed by the waves of tens of thousands of soldiers. As the mercenaries were struck down one after another, Tyr, fighting with all his might, was captured. He was then pinned to the ground, tied with ropes, and marched while enduring the hateful curses of the Kali soldiers. Tyr was taken to the main headquarters of the Kali army.

In the center, there was a simple throne. Of course, the one sitting there was Rudolf.

“Are you Tyr? Finally, we meet. I am Rudolf, King of the Kali Kingdom.” (Rudolf)

“Are you the king? Well, I have no regrets. Go ahead and kill me.” (Tyr)

Tyr sharply cut off Rudolf, who had started introducing himself politely, saying long speeches were unnecessary.

Rudolf watched him, then stood up from the throne. He walked toward Tyr and personally untied his ropes.

“Tyr. You are Laplace’s greatest general. With just a few thousand soldiers, you plunged our kingdom into the depths of fear. The only regret is that you are our enemy.” (Rudolf)

Tyr, not understanding why Rudolf was doing this, looked at him. Rudolf threw a dagger he had hidden in his bosom toward Tyr.

“I think it would be rude to have someone else kill you. I’ll give you my sword. End your life with this.” (Rudolf)

“Your Majesty! This is dangerous!” (Advisor)

They never imagined that not only would Rudolf untie Tyr’s ropes, but he would also give him a weapon. The attendants, with panicked expressions, rushed between the two, pulling Rudolf away. Tyr, holding the dagger that Rudolf had given him, stared at it for a moment, then spoke, as if remembering something he had forgotten.

“Rudolf. I said earlier I had no regrets. But that was a lie. There’s one thing I want you to do for me.” (Tyr)

“Tell me.” (Rudolf)

Tyr pointed to a small hill on his left.

“That small mountain to the left. At the top of that hill is where my wife rests. Though humble, there is a gravestone. Would you bury my body next to her grave?” (Tyr)

In the end, it seems he wanted to sleep beside his beloved wife. So, Tyr is still human after all. Why his wife came with him to Kali is unknown, but…

Rudolf hesitated slightly in his heart but eventually nodded firmly.

“Understood. The wish of the greatest hero. I swear by my name as king.” (Rudolf)

“Thank you.” (Tyr)

Tyr lowered his head. Then, he drew the dagger and stared at its dazzling shine.

“….” (Tyr)

The people surrounding him held their breath. They waited for the death of the enemy’s hero, any moment now. However, the dagger Tyr was holding slowly lowered to the ground.

“??” (Rudolf)

Could it be that Tyr, of all people, was too afraid to take his own life? No, something was off.

One soldier cautiously approached. When he touched Tyr’s body, his posture collapsed, and he fell sideways.

“He’s dead… Your Majesty! He has already passed away!” (Soldier)

“Dead? Tyr?” (Rudolf)

Rudolf walked over to his body and checked his face. The moment he saw Tyr’s face, he began to cry as if he were a long-lost friend.

“Your Majesty, what are you—?” (Advisor)

Rudolf, surprised by the tears running down his cheek, could not stop the sorrow he felt.

“His soul must have reached its limit. Ah, his face looks peaceful.” (Rudolf)

Then, he gave orders to his soldiers.

“Just as his last wish. Bury him with respect.” (Rudolf)

Tyr, Laplace’s greatest general, and Arc’s strong-hearted older brother. He ended his short yet fulfilling life in the enemy land of Kali, resting alongside his beloved wife in the end.
