Hal

Hal’s body before my eyes was pierced by the long spear. The spear tip, soaked in blood, was clearly visible protruding from Hal’s back.

“Uwaaaaaah!! Hal!!!” (Tyr)

Tyr’s scream echoed.

“You’re in the way!” (Sanya)

For 6th Unit soldier Sanya, Hal was of no concern. Her eyes, burning with hatred, were directed at Tyr, the one who gave the order to kill Alma and Martina. Sanya tried to pull out the spear that had pierced Hal and thrust it toward Tyr. However, the spear wouldn’t come out.

“I won’t let you!” (Hal)

Hal had firmly grasped the spear that was piercing her stomach, preventing it from being pulled out.

“Let go!” (Sanya)

“I will never let go!” (Hal)

Sanya tried with all her might to pull out the spear, but it wouldn’t budge at all. Even as blood flowed from her mouth and both hands, Hal used all her strength to grip the spear.

“Ugh!” (Sanya)

Unable to use the spear that had been deflecting arrows earlier, Sanya was now exposed and defenseless, and arrows pierced her body.

“Let go! Let go! Let goooooo!!” (Sanya)

With arrows lodged all over her body, Sanya, now completely out of options, used her last burst of strength to punch Hal and, finding an opening, finally pulled out the spear.

“With this…!!” (Sanya)

The moment Sanya prepared once again to pierce Tyr, it was Sanya herself who was cut down.

A large wound was left on her chest by Tyr’s sword, and blood gushed out like a fountain. Sanya, blankly staring at the blood spilling from her own body, let out a resigned smile.

“That’s right… I struggled this much against just one woman… Alma, Martina… I’m sorry,” (Sanya)

Then, she turned her gaze toward Tyr. Mustering her last bit of strength, she reached out her blood-soaked hand. However, before her hand could reach Tyr, her body convulsed once and then tumbled from the horse.

“Hal! Hal!” (Tyr)

After confirming that Sanya had breathed her last, Tyr grabbed Hal, who was about to fall from her horse, and pulled her onto her own saddle.

“Hal! Stay with me! Hal! Hal!!!” (Tyr)

“It’s noisy.” (Hal)

As Tyr desperately called out, Hal slowly opened her eyes.

“It’s so noisy… it echoes in my body…” (Hal)

Though her tone was as curt as ever, she was already on the verge of death.

“Tyr-sama… Hal-sama…” (Soldier)

“The arrows have stopped. We’ll continue retreating while we still have the chance after driving the enemy away.” (Tyr)

To the subordinate hesitantly seeking instructions, Tyr once again issued the retreat order.

Tyr let the soldiers go ahead. And he himself, carrying Hal, rode slowly at the rear. He wanted to minimize the horse’s vibrations for Hal’s sake.

“Hal. Thanks to you, we’ve wiped out the enemy. We can return to Mikanda.” (Tyr)

Tyr lifted Hal up and spoke in a deliberately cheerful tone. Then, he showed her the battlefield, now devoid of living enemy soldiers. His words were merely words of comfort. Both Tyr and Hal knew that well.

“Hal. All that’s left is to return to Mikanda!” (Tyr)

Tyr spoke.

You’ll come back with me, right?

Afraid to ask directly, he added it in his heart.

As if seeing through his thoughts, Hal slowly shook her head.

“I was pierced through the stomach… it feels like my lower body is being torn apart…” (Hal)

“No… don’t give up yet…” (Tyr)

*Gof!*

Contrary to Tyr’s desperate wish to encourage her, Hal coughed up a heavy amount of blood. Perhaps because blood was flowing into her lungs, her breathing became erratic, unsteady, whether she could even breathe properly was uncertain. Even a medical amateur like Tyr could understand. Hal’s condition was hopeless.

“…Why did you protect me? To take a spear with just your body…” (Tyr)

If you hadn’t done something unnecessary, I would have been the one to die. You wouldn’t have had to die.

Even knowing it was wrong, Tyr’s tone turned accusatory. Hal gently placed her hand over his mouth.

“Stop… I did what I wanted to do.” (Hal)

“My carelessness got you killed. I… I…” (Tyr)

“Tyr-sama. Why are you crying?” (Hal)

Hal gently wiped away the tears of the now childlike sobbing Tyr.

“Tyr-sama.” (Hal)

Hal’s voice grew hoarse. Her voice was mixed with the sound of blood. Tyr stopped his horse and dismounted, still holding Hal. Every time she spoke, blood dribbled from her mouth. She probably couldn’t even breathe properly anymore. Her body began to tremble.

“Hal. Please wait. Don’t leave me behind.” (Tyr)

In contrast to Tyr, who pleaded while crying, Hal had a peaceful expression and smiled.

“I am happy… ever since I met you, I’ve been happy…” (Hal)

Hal slowly extended her trembling hand. And just like before, she gently wiped away Tyr’s never-ending tears.

“Even in the end, I get to protect the one I love… to die in the arms of the one I love… there’s nothing… nothing happier than this…” (Hal)

Hal’s hand, dangling loosely from Tyr’s face, fell limp. At the tip of her hand, a single small bellflower bloomed.
