The Badacca Adventurer Guild was left scratching their head after their dungeon was captured by an unknown intruder, losing their largest source of income.

“Damn it! Who the hell conquered it…!?” (Borus)

The one who slammed his desk in frustration and shouted was the guildmaster, Borus. If it turned out that the conqueror was an adventurer based in this guild, at the very least, they would gain fame. Even if the staff members were to be transferred, they wouldn’t have to feel out of place at their new branch.

Borus, in particular, was desperate. He was frantically trying to identify the conqueror. He had already decided to offer a large reward to the conqueror, and several people had come forward claiming to be the one, but so far, all had turned out to be frauds seeking the reward, and the real identity remained unknown.

For an adventurer, not coming forward would be odd. That being the case, the possibility was higher that the conqueror was not an adventurer. Even if that were true, Borus intended to persuade that person and have them declared an adventurer. Just then, the subordinate he had assigned to the investigation arrived.

“Excuse me. I have come to report the investigation results.” (Subordinate)

“How did it go?” (Borus)

“Unfortunately, we have yet to identify the person. However, there is one… I don’t know if it can be called a lead, but…” (Subordinate)

The subordinate spoke hesitantly.

“What is it? Right now, even the smallest detail is fine. Speak.” (Borus)

“Y-yes. Actually… there is a rumor among the adventurers that the conqueror might be a certain boy.” (Subordinate)

“A boy?” (Borus)

“Yes. A 12-year-old boy who only recently became an adventurer, but…” (Subordinate)

Borus snorted.

“Hah, don’t be ridiculous. There’s no way a 12-year-old child could conquer a dungeon.” (Borus)

“No, as I said, it’s just a rumor… However, according to records, during his examination, he not only defeated the C-rank adventurer serving as the examiner but also slew a Kobold King in his first quest…” (Subordinate)

“W-what the hell is that absurd story…?” (Borus)

“Moreover, when I asked around the stalls in front of the dungeon, someone said they might have seen a boy fitting that description entering the dungeon… Though they weren’t entirely certain, so I can’t say how reliable it is.” (Subordinate)

It seemed his subordinate was skeptical. No, almost entirely disbelieving. However, Borus, perhaps due to his instincts as a former high-rank adventurer, felt something click upon hearing the rumor.

“Bring him here immediately! Right this instant!” (Borus)

“Eh? U-understood!” (Subordinate)

The subordinate tilted his head in confusion but hurriedly rushed out of the guildmaster’s office.

While being unaware of such an exchange taking place, Leon had already left the town of Badacca, and he was heading for another city.

“Since I have the chance, I’d like to see all sorts of cities.” (Leon)

That was his reasoning. In his previous life, he had traveled all over, but he had always been fighting monsters. Of course, he never had any time to sightsee. That was precisely why this time, he wanted to enjoy a leisurely journey. He was also curious about how the world had changed in these past hundred years.

According to the memories of Leon’s previous life, there should be a town called Melissa to the west of Badacca. For now, he decided to head there.

“Looking forward to it, no—” (Sura)

Sura on his head also seemed excited. By the way, he was traveling on foot. He had earned a decent amount in Badacca, so he could afford to take a carriage, but walking himself was much faster.

“Since I’m alone, I can take the shortest route.” (Leon)

Saying that, he was currently cutting straight through a forest. Occasionally, monsters appeared, but all were instantly annihilated.

“Hm? There’s something there… A person?” (Leon)

About 20 meters ahead to the left. Sensing a presence, Leon stopped walking. However, this presence did not feel like a monster. Moreover, it was quite weak.

“Looks like it’s inside this hole.” (Leon)

Before him was a cave. The entrance was so small that even Leon would have to crouch to enter. The presence seemed to be coming from within.

“I’ll go check, no—” (Sura)

Jumping off Leon’s head, Sura slipped into the hole.

“Be careful.” (Leon)

Leon followed in after him. Beyond the hole, there seemed to be a somewhat open space. Having arrived there first, Sura was hopping around, saying.

“Whoa—! Not a bad slime no—” (Sura)

“What is it? Did you find someone?” (Leon)

Leon, who had just managed to squeeze through the narrow hole, saw what Sura was facing—

“Ugh…!” (Boy)

A boy growled as if trying to intimidate them. He looked about five or six years old. Judging by his beast-like ears, he seemed to be a beastkin. He was visibly injured in multiple places. The one the boy was shielding was a girl of roughly the same age, leaning against the wall. Looking closely, her right arm was bent in an unnatural direction, a severe injury.

“Don’t worry. Sura is my familiar.” (Leon)

“…!” (Boy)

The boy noticed Leon but showed no sign of lowering his guard. If anything, his growling intensified.

“Hiss—!” (Boy)

“I’ll help that girl, so step aside.” (Leon)

“…No!” (Boy)

“I see, so you don’t intend to trust me. That’s fine. Sura, restrain him.” (Leon)

“Okay, no—” (Sura)

Sura extended a tentacle and wrapped it around the boy’s legs.

“!?” (Boy)

Skillfully using his tentacles, Sura restrained the boy’s hands and feet, immobilizing him.

Leon sat down beside the girl and examined her.

“This is… she’s already dead.” (Leon)

“Ahhhhh!” (Boy)

The boy shouted in protest at Leon’s assessment.

“Don’t worry. She only just died, so I can still save her.” (Leon)

Leon cast a healing spell. It was a supreme-level healing magic that only those with the highest-tier job, Saint, could acquire. No, rather than healing magic, it would be better to call it… Resurrection magic.

“—Revive.” (Leon)
