After All, this is the Shortest Route

Zeta, while being a skilled blacksmith, also had confidence in her swordsmanship. Currently, she had also acquired the rare Class II job of [Battlefield Blacksmith].

Originally, Zeta had begun training as a child at the blacksmith workshop run by her father, and she held the belief that in order to forge excellent swords, one must be able to wield a sword oneself. Because of this, she had also devoted herself to the training of swordsmanship. That experience had likely been the factor that led to the manifestation of the [Battlefield Blacksmith] job.

Such a person as her often dived into dungeons solo for material gathering, even though seasoned adventurers usually challenged them in parties. Her deepest reached floor was the twelfth. Even among the adventurers based in this town, that was a top-class record. Due to her manlier-than-a-man demeanor and looks, she also had many female fans.

“Bumooooooo!” (Black Minotaur)

“Gyaaaaaah! Black Minotaurrrrrrr!?” (Zeta)

“Guruaaaaaa!” (Boss Troll)

“Hiiiiiiiiiih! Boss Trolllllll!?” (Zeta)

“Shaaaaaaaa!” (Twin-Head Worm)

“Nuaaaaaaaaah! Twin-Head Wormmmmm!?” (Zeta)

…Who could have ever imagined that such a woman would be screaming and crying without a shred of shame or dignity?

The monsters appearing one after another were all high-ranking species. Their threat level was enough to single-handedly destroy a small city. Even a single one of these creatures was the kind that high-level adventurers would need a party to fight, and yet, the entire floor was crawling with them.

“Why did you seriously dive all the way up to the 30th floor, oh my god!” (Zeta)

Yes. This was 30th floor of the dungeon. Nearly 20 floors deeper than where she usually explored, a domain no one had ever reached before.

“Huh? But I told you at the beginning, right? That our goal was for now the 30th floor.” (Leon)

“Bumo!?” (Black Minotaur)

Replying nonchalantly like that, the boy lightly swung his sword with one hand, slicing in half the Black Minotaur that had leaped at him.

He was a cute young boy in his early teens. Zeta had followed him into the dungeon to test his swordsmanship after he visited her workshop some time ago. Normally, she would have turned away such a request from a mere child. But her intuition didn’t allow her to. Something told her that this was no ordinary kid. Besides, if he was already a D-rank adventurer at his age, he probably had talent. However, declaring something reckless like “Let’s go to the 30th floor”, she just couldn’t leave him alone.

She thought that if she at least accompanied him down to the 10th floor, he’d come to his senses. Never in her wildest dreams had she expected this to happen. Monsters that would have instantly killed her if she were alone were now reduced to goblins… no, mere slimes in the presence of this boy.

Meanwhile, the slime that served as his tamed beast could hardly be called a weakling. It had been sending Boss Trolls flying and extending its tentacles to disarm traps, proving far more useful than Zeta herself.

“Wait, what do you mean for now?!?” (Zeta)

“If we dive deeper, we can be even more sure of finding what we need.” (Leon)

“You still want to go deeper!?” (Zeta)

Her usual dignified demeanor was nowhere to be seen, as she had been shouting nonstop. If she didn’t, she felt like fear would consume her. Even though she hadn’t fought at all, her underwear was already drenched in sweat.

But paying no attention to her, Leon discovered a staircase and descended further. Having no way to return alone, Zeta had no choice but to follow him.

“Seriously… we’re still going deeper… I just want to go home… I mean, with his strength, does he even need a sword from me…? He could probably take down a Red Dragon with just that mass-produced one…” (Zeta)

Leon, seemingly having caught her mutterings, turned around.

“Mass-produced ones break too quickly. Look.” (Leon)

The sword he showed her was already in tatters. As a blacksmith, Zeta could tell at a glance that it was beyond repair. And yet, she had seen it was brand new before they entered the dungeon. She had watched him buy it from one of the stalls outside.

“Even if it’s just steel, I’ve never seen one deteriorate this fast before…” (Zeta)

But upon thinking about it, it made sense. From the start, he had been cutting down monsters with high defense again and again. Ordinary steel swords shouldn’t even be capable of cutting them in the first place…

“Ah. It broke.” (Leon)

And in an instant, the sword snapped cleanly from the base.

“H-Hey, what’re you gonna do now? You don’t have a spare, right? …Want to use my sword?” (Zeta)

“No, that won’t be necessary.” (Leon)

Saying that, the boy sent a High Griffin crashing down with a single punch from midair.

“You don’t need a sword!” (Zeta)

Zeta instinctively shouted with all her might.

We’ve come down quite a ways now…

Contrasting with his sweat-drenched companion, Leon hadn’t even broken a sweat. Humming to himself, he arrived at the 30th floor and immediately continued further downward. Not once had he hesitated in choosing his path. That was because thief-type jobs excel in exploration skills. Having mastered the highest-ranking thief job, [Thief King], Leon could practically map out an entire floor the moment he set foot in it.

“Oh, this is a Monster House.” (Leon)

Upon reaching the 33rd floor, they came across a chamber teeming with monsters. Monster Houses were special rooms where creatures from across the floor gathered.

“H-Hey, what do we do? We should probably go around—wait, I have a really bad feeling about this…” (Zeta)

“This is the shortest route, after all.” (Leon)

“So, you’re really going to go through it!?” (Zeta)
