Then, I Guess I’ll Go Mine It Myself

Not a bad sword.

At a single glance at the sword the woman held in her hand, Leon thought.

The material was probably mithril. Because of that, its strength was not that great, but only by Leon’s standards, it was processed with highly advanced skills, it seemed to have a sharpness that set it apart from the mass-produced goods around. From the conversation earlier, it seemed that she had forged it herself.

Leon called out to her.

“Onee-chan, I want you to forge a sword for me too?” (Leon)

“Haaah?” (Woman)

The woman turned around, not hiding her irritation.

She looked to be in her late twenties. Her long black hair was tied carelessly at the back of her head, as if she didn’t care about her appearance at all, but she was a beauty with well-shaped features. However, with her intimidating gaze and the fact that she was currently holding a sword, even adventurers accustomed to rough situations would hesitate to approach her.

Of course, Leon didn’t care at all.

“What the hell, it’s just a kid. As you can see, I’m in a bad mood right now. Go home already.” (Woman)

Saying that, she quickly disappeared into the workshop.

Leon followed her inside. The small space was packed with various materials, leaving barely any room to step.

“Hey, didn’t you hear me?!” (Woman)

“No, I heard you.” (Leon)

“Then, get lost! I’ve got no intention of forging a sword for a brat like you!” (Woman)

With her shouting, a merciless killing intent was unleashed.

For an ordinary child, it would have been enough to make them faint. But Leon casually threw out a question.

“Can I ask you one thing? What kind of person would you be willing to forge a sword for?” (Leon)

“Oh? To stay that calm under my killing intent… Hmph, you’re not just some brat, are you?” ( Woman)

The woman let out a slight snort of amusement.

Then, after sheathing the sword she had kept drawn,

“I’m Zeta. As you can see, I’m a blacksmith.” (Zeta)

“I’m Leon. A D-rank adventurer.” (Leon)

“An adventurer? At your age? Hah, that explains it.” (Zeta)

The woman, Zeta, smiled, her mood seemingly improving a little.

“So, as for your question, there’s only one condition for me to forge a sword for someone. They have to be a swordsman worthy of using my sword. That’s it.” (Zeta)

“I see, I see.” (Leon)

Leon nodded.

“By the way, have you ever forged a sword using materials better than mithril?” (Leon)

“What?” (Zeta)

“For example, adamantite.” (Leon)

“Hah?” (Zeta)

Zeta glared at Leon with a “what the hell is this kid saying” expression.

“That kind of rare material isn’t something you can just get your hands on. Adamantite is the kind of stuff used in legendary weapons. Even the royal palace’s exclusive blacksmiths don’t have any.” (Zeta)

“Is that so?” (Leon)

Compared to orichalcum, known as the metal of the gods, it shouldn’t be that rare…

Leon tilted his head.

In his past life, blacksmiths who could forge adamantite weapons weren’t uncommon, and Leon had owned several himself. Incidentally, the sword left at his family home was an alloy containing a small amount of adamantite.

“Then, I guess I’ll go mine it myself.” (Leon)

Fortunately, there was a dungeon near this town.

“Oi…” (Zeta)

Zeta scratched her head in exasperation.

“It’s rare because it’s not easy to mine, you fool.” (Zeta)

“I think you’d find quite a bit in the depths of a dungeon, though?” (Leon)

Adamantite forms naturally in places with high magic density.

The deeper parts of dungeons, being full of magic, were prime spots for mining it.

“Are you stupid? You know that only top-class adventurers go into the depths of dungeons in full parties, right? Stop talking like it’s some casual stroll.” (Zeta)

“Is that so?” (Leon)

Leon tilted his head again, as if unconvinced.

“…Haaah.” (Zeta)

Zeta let out a long sigh.

Thinking that if she left him alone, he’d really go in there by himself,

“Can’t be helped. I was just about to go gather materials anyway. I’ll go with you and see if you’re really worthy of my sword while we’re at it.” (Zeta)

Surprisingly, she was rather softhearted.

At that time, she had no idea. That this decision would lead to the worst tragedy.

The dungeon north of Badacca, commonly known as the “Rock Cavern Corridor”. A massive crater-like depression lay in the grassy plains, as if left by a fallen meteorite, and a cave-like hole deep inside served as the entrance. Inside, it was structured in layers, the lower one descended, the stronger the monsters, and the more troublesome the traps became.

A hundred years ago, it hadn’t even existed, so this was Leon’s first time entering it. The current deepest reached floor was the twentieth. A few years ago, an A-rank adventurer-led party set the record. However, during that attempt, their leader died, and the party disbanded.

Even on the 20th floor, the chances of mining adamantite were slim. Depending on the dungeon, to guarantee finding adamantite, one had to go at least as deep as the thirtieth floor.

“So, our goal is at least the 30th floor.” (Leon)

“The 30th floor is impossible. We’ll go to the 10th. That’s good enough. We can get mithril there at a high rate.” (Zeta)

Before setting out, Zeta had dismissed Leon’s goal as absurd.

“Why did you seriously dive all the way up to the 30th floor!” (Zeta)

Her scream echoed through the dungeon depths. No other adventurers were around. Naturally. After all, this was completely uncharted territory.

“Huh? But I told you at the start, didn’t I? Our goal was at least the 30th floor.” (Leon)

Leon tilted his head in confusion.
