It’s Just a Kobold, Right?

A single kobold attacks Leon.

That reminds me, I should have bought a sword… Well, bare hands are fine.

Noticing that he had no weapon, but at that point, there was nothing to be done. If he used the Double Reflection Skill, he would probably win automatically, but relying on it too much would dull his instincts. Thinking so, Leon grabbed the throat of the kobold that bared its fangs and leaped at him.

“Oops.” (Leon)

Zugon!

He slammed it into the ground. With his monstrous strength, the ground caved in greatly, and cracks spread around. The kobold rolled its eyes back and perished.

““…Huh?”” (Seira/Yuri)

Seira and Yuri, forgetting that they were in the middle of battle, were stunned at the unbelievable scene before their eyes. Fortunately, the kobolds, also shocked by the power displayed by a human boy smaller than themselves, had stopped moving. Contrary to the surrounding astonishment, Leon thought.

My strength has definitely fallen compared to my previous life. Well, my level is still low, so it can’t be helped.

“““Grrr…!””” (Kobolds)

Determining that the greatest threat was that child, the kobolds recovered from their brief freeze and, ignoring Seira and Yuri, all at once leaped at Leon. The kobolds’ fangs sank one after another into Leon’s slender body.

“Leon!?” (Seira)

“Leon-san!?” (Yuri)

Seira and Yuri scream in unison.

However…

“Yeah, as expected, with this level of bite force, it doesn’t hurt at all.” (Leon)

Leon remained unfazed.

“““Grr!?””” (Kobolds)

Realizing that their fangs hadn’t left so much as a scratch on Leon’s skin, the kobolds let out bewildered voices. Of course, this was due to the overwhelming difference in status between them.

“Next, it’s my turn.” (Leon)

Saying so, Leon thrust his right fist forward and then spun on the spot.

“““Bufu!?””” (Kobolds)

The kobolds were all blown away together. He had intentionally let them bite him, partly to check his defense, but also because he figured it would be less trouble that way. The kobolds hit by Leon’s spinning punch rolled across the ground multiple times and did not rise again. It seemed they had died.

“…Hey, Yuri, is this a dream?” (Seira)

“…No, it should be reality… Shall we check?” (Yuri)

“Ouch.” (Seira)

“…It hurts.” (Yuri)

As Seira and Yuri pinched each other’s cheeks, Leon whistled once more. Yet again, a group of kobolds emerged from the depths of the forest. After that, Leon repeatedly gathered and exterminated kobolds, and before he realized it, he had defeated more than 50 of them. Among them, there were even Elder Kobolds, a higher-ranked variant of kobolds… but to Leon, they were no different from regular kobolds.

“Great hunt, great hunt.” (Leon)

Thinking that whistling was indeed convenient, Leon smiled in satisfaction. Searching for monsters inside the forest was exhausting. But with just a “Pheeew,” they came to him on their own, making things easy.

Then, Leon noticed Seira and Yuri standing frozen with distant looks in their eyes.

“Oh, sorry. I ended up defeating them all. You two want to fight too, right?” (Leon)

The two shook their heads from side to side in silence.

“…? Well, don’t worry. As we agreed at the start, we’ll properly split the rewards evenly.” (Leon)

That’s not the problem!

Their inner voices synchronized.

At that moment…

Leon sensed a strong presence approaching from the depths of the forest. Before long, it appeared. A kobold roughly three times the size of a regular one. A deep gash ran vertically through its right eye, and its mouth was torn open near the back of its head. Its sharp gaze was no longer that of a dog but a wolf.

“GRUUUUAAAAAAA!!!” (Kobold King)

Its roar pierced the ears. The trees of the forest trembled, and birds frantically took flight.

“N-No way!?” (Seira)

“For the ruler of the forest to appear…!” (Yuri)

Seira and Yuri screamed.

“ARE YOU THE ONES WHO KILLED MY BRETHREN?” (Kobold King)

“Oh, it talked.” (Leon)

Among intelligent monsters, there were some that understood human speech.

“UNFORGIVABLE, NEVER FORGIVABLE.” (Kobold King)

It seemed to be quite enraged by Leon’s kobold massacre.

“It’s over…” (Seira)

“I never thought I’d die on my first request…” (Yuri)

Seira and Yuri collapsed to the ground in fear, clinging to each other and trembling.

“Thinking we could make it as adventurers was reckless after all… I’m sorry, Otou-san, Okaa-san…” (Seira)

“Please forgive your unfilial daughter…” (Yuri)

They had already resigned themselves to death.
However, the very cause of their predicament tilted his head in puzzlement and said…

“…? It’s a little big, but it’s just a kobold, right?” (Leon)

“Where is it ‘a little’!? And it’s not just a kobold!” (Seira)

“It’s clearly a Kobold King!” (Yuri)

The monster before them was the highest-ranked species of kobold, the Kobold King. Compared to regular kobolds, its danger level was on an entirely different scale. For a small village or town, it would not be surprising if it was annihilated. Only high-ranking A- or B-class adventurers could handle such a threat. For the two rookie adventurers, this was an absolute crisis.

On the other hand, to Leon, it was merely “a slightly bigger kobold showing up”. To him, kobolds and Kobold Kings were essentially the same.
