Chapter 50

I wanted to head straight to the guild, but that didn’t work out. As soon as we stepped outside, Alice ran around, making purchases that were practically an assault on the food stalls.

I can’t say I don’t understand the feeling. To be honest, while the dungeon has confidence in clothing and housing, when it comes to food, there’s no other way to describe it but simple.

After all, it’s just meat or fruit. And not even that many varieties. I have secretly used the kitchen to experiment with various cooking methods, but since Alice only had the option to either grill or eat raw, she must have gotten tired of it.

Perhaps that would change if trade were to be established. However, there is a problem. One that is both important and urgent.

“Alice, you’ve been buying a lot of different things just now, but you’re using the money I gave you, right?” (Nobunaga)

“Fuunun? Fou, but yeah?” (Alice)

“Finish eating before you answer.” (Nobunaga)

At my words, Alice swallowed what she had in her mouth and then started eating what she was holding as well.

I did say to finish eating, but I didn’t mean to eat what she was holding too.

“Yeah?” (Alice)

Having finished everything, Alice asked again. The food that was there moments ago was gone, and all that remained in her hands were skewers and other trash. I didn’t even have the strength to sigh.

“Did it not occur to you to buy some for me?” (Nobunaga)

Alice tilted her head as if to say, “What are you talking about?” Then, after a brief moment of realization—

“You wanted some? How greedy—” (Alice)

I silently swung my fist down, but she easily dodged it.

Well, even though this body has been physically enhanced in various ways, it still can’t reach Alice. I never expected to hit her in the first place. It was merely a warning.

“Can’t be helped. I’ll buy some, so wait here.” (Alice)

Saying that, Alice charged into the stalls and disappeared into the crowd.

Why do I have to be spoken to from such a superior position? Maybe I should hurry up and learn the value of currency and the appropriate prices for goods and take control of the wallet. I should keep that in mind during my next information gathering.

That said, I’m really curious about what Alice will buy. From what I’ve seen, there are a lot of skewers, as well as unfamiliar fruits and vegetables, and even soups being sold. One strange thing is that every food stall has banners with mysterious patterns. They all look different, yet somehow unified. What are those?

“Here, grilled skewer.” (Alice)

As I was thinking that, Alice had somehow returned before I realized it. And the skewer she handed me, just one. I was so touched by her kindness I could cry.

“Hmm… um? This tastes nostalgic. Why? It’s not the sauce. The taste of the meat itself is nostalgic. What kind of meat is this?” (Nobunaga)

“Isn’t it Kokart?” (Alice)

Kokart…? Have I heard that somewhere? It shouldn’t be native to Owa’s Great Forest… Ah, I remember now.

“The first quest reward. I see, it’s that meat.” (Nobunaga)

It has a firm texture, but the taste itself is neither particularly good nor bad. If it tastes delicious, that’s probably thanks to the sauce. But it really does bring back memories. Compared to back then, things have improved significantly now.

“If trade becomes possible, things like this will also be obtainable.” (Nobunaga)

“That’s what the letter is for, right? Look, over there, the slightly larger building. That’s the guild. I’ll head there first.” (Alice)

Saying that, Alice slipped through the crowd like the wind. Such footwork. I just witnessed a masterful technique in the most pointless of places.

As for me…

“…” (Nobunaga)

Just by walking, a small empty space forms in the crowd around me. As if there was some magnetic repulsion occurring, only the area surrounding me. If only the crowd would part like Moses’ miracle, it’d be easier to walk.

The guild, more precisely, the Adventurer Guild, seemed to be a large building, likely because Andal was an adventurer’s town.

I had yet to obtain detailed information about it, but I did know the general system. Clients posted requests, and the guild assigned suitable registered adventurers to complete them. Essentially, it functioned like a staffing agency. And because Andal was originally an adventurer’s town, the guild building was reasonably large. The signboard had that same mysterious pattern. Beside it, there was what appeared to be a logo, three overlapping circles within a larger circle.

If I could have found whoever designed this architecture, I would have taken them back with me and had them train the little ogre goblins as apprentices. That way, Alice’s residence could have been built as well.

“..–because… –chan” (??)

“..–also sells… –you know?” (??)

Hmm. It seems there are a fair number of people inside as well. With this, gathering information about the guild shouldn’t be too difficult.

Just as I was thinking that and opened the door, I suddenly realized.

If I transform here, I’ll be found out. But if I don’t transform, I can’t read memories! What should I do?
