Let’s Leave Immediately

Leon arrived at the church.

“I would like to check the Job Tree.” (Leon)

“Then, please come this way.” (Cleric)

When he conveyed his request, he was guided to a room in the back. On what appeared to be an altar, a beautiful crystal was placed. When Leon lightly placed his hand on the crystal, it read his mana, and the Job Tree floated up. The Job Tree was something that displayed the obtainable jobs in a tree diagram, and this crystal was a sacred tool for that purpose.

“This is also just like in my previous life.” (Leon)

Depending on the person, there were systems of jobs that could be acquired from birth and those that could not. There were cases where they became obtainable later in life, but most were congenital. In Leon’s case, in his previous life, he had been able to take on jobs from quite a lot of systems from the beginning, and it seemed that was the same in this life as well.

“As expected, [Sage] is the first candidate. The second choice would be [Anti-Hero], I suppose…” (Leon)

[Anti-Hero] was also a Class II job. The conditions were mastering both the Class II jobs [Recoverer] and [Thief], and Leon had already met them. Alternatively, it was also an option to acquire a new system. If he mastered the Fist Fighter system or the Hunter system, his range of combat would expand even further.

And then, he suddenly realized something.

“Is there even a need to become stronger in the first place…?” (Leon)

After all, in this life, there was no Demon King. And Leon was not a Hero. In his previous life, he had been chosen as a Hero candidate at the age of ten, and from then on, it had been nothing but daily training.

Defeat the Demon King. For that purpose, he had simply pursued strength without end. Thinking back, it had been quite a difficult life. But since he had been reborn in this peaceful world, this time, Leon thought, he should be able to live freely as he pleased.

And so, he checked the Job Tree once more. He also looked at non-combat jobs. At that moment, a certain job caught his eye.

[Tamer]

A job that could tame animals and monsters, making them companions. It was something he had not been able to acquire in his previous life. Though it had not been intentional, perhaps taming a slime had unlocked it.

“Maybe I’ll be able to understand what Sura is thinking.” (Leon)

It was probably attached to him, but since it was just a transparent lump without eyes or a mouth, simply quivering did not convey its emotions at all. But if he took this job, he might be able to understand it a little.

Having acquired the new job [Tamer], Leon returned to the mansion. At the entrance, a maid indifferently spoke.

“Regarding Snail-sama, Milord was looking for you.” (Maid)

It seemed that the earlier incident had reached his father. Leon had been punched by his brother many times before, but not once had his brother been reprimanded for it. It was unfair, but the reverse was clearly not the same.

Entering the room, his father, Lloyd, was waiting with a complex expression. On either side of him, his stepmother and brother were glaring at Leon as if they wanted to kill him.

“Leon, where have you been?” (Lloyd)

“I was at the church.” (Leon)

“I see…” (Lloyd)

Lloyd looked a bit awkward and then said…

“Uh… Is it true that you injured Snail?” (Lloyd)

“It’s true, Tou-san! Because of that guy, my nose ended up like this!” (Snail)

Pointing to his own nose, his brother spoke.

It was quite swollen. Since his stepmother had arrived midway, there had been no time to heal it. But Leon tilted his head, wondering why he had not used a potion. Perhaps he had intentionally left it as evidence. In reality, it was his brother who had come to hit him, but Leon found it troublesome and simply nodded.

“That is correct.” (Leon)

Then, a shrill voice rang out.

“To raise a hand against your brother… what a violent child! As expected of that wench’s child!” (Susanna)

Your own child is much more violent, though…

Leon muttered in his heart.

“You! We should kick him out immediately! If it becomes known that such a child is in our house, our family’s name will be tarnished!” (Susanna)

“W-Well, even so… Leon is still only 12…” (Lloyd)

Lloyd faltered under Susanna’s intense pressure.

Pathetically, he could not stand up to his wife. At the same time, he did not seem to intend to throw Leon out. Perhaps he felt guilty for having him with a maid. But such concerns were unnecessary.

Leon said…

“I understand. I will leave immediately.” (Leon)

From the start, Leon had planned to leave home as soon as possible.

Until now, he had been nothing more than an ordinary 12-year-old child, so he had endured the unfairness of his brother and stepmother. But now that he had regained the memories and abilities of his previous life, he could survive on his own. There was no reason to stay in such a place.

“Oh my! You’ve finally realized that you’re an unwanted nuisance! Dear, since he himself has said so, you should make him leave at once!” (Susanna)

“B-But… Leon has only just turned 12…” (Lloyd)

“Oh-hoho, my dear, among commoners, children already work by the age of 12. Among commoners.” (Susanna)

Susanna emphasized the word “commoners” excessively.

She took every opportunity to look down on commoners. Perhaps she did so to convince herself that she was a noble, a chosen person. The Cerest Household held the rank of Viscount, but she was originally from a Count’s family. Even now, she likely harbored resentment over having to marry into a lower-ranked house.

“I-I see… In that case, I will arrange for him to work as a live-in servant at some merchant house…” (Lloyd)

“That will not be necessary, Father.” (Leon)

“What?” (Lloyd)

“I intend to become an adventurer.” (Leon)

“A-An adventurer…?” (Lloyd)

Adventurers were individuals who belonged to an organization called the Adventurer Guild and earned money by completing tasks such as exploration and combat. They were similar to mercenaries. There were no status requirements to become one, and depending on skill and achievements, one could rise in rank.

Because of this, it was popular among children from poor farming villages and slums who sought a chance at success. There were even some nobles who chose the adventurer’s path for its freedom. However, it was a profession with life-threatening risks, unlike soldiers hired by nobles who received a stable salary. Naturally, adventurers also had to purchase their own equipment.

In my previous life, I fought alongside adventurers against the Demon King’s army…

Though it was called cooperation, Leon had neither superiors nor subordinates and had basically always acted alone.

“But, you have no combat experience…” (Lloyd)

“There is no need for concern, Father. I have just acquired a combat job at the church.” (Leon)

“A job…?” (Lloyd)

“Hah! Don’t lie! There’s no way you could get a job at your age. Even I, at level 8, still haven’t accumulated enough job points.” (Snail)

Snail snorted in mockery.

If he had less than 100 points at level 8, it meant he gained less than 10 points per level-up.

“In any case, I am leaving this house. I can live on my own, so please do not worry.” (Leon)
